Rumer is if you want to "grow" your subscribers you need to offer "how to" episodes...  The 5 steps for this the 10 steps for that.  So in that vein, here is my first stepified how to episode.  Enjoy.

Show notes:

My first how to episode!  “The 10 simple steps to publishing an episode every day”.  There are lots of arguments as to whether you should publish everyday or not.  Quality is subjective so crank out the content.  “You make it look easy!”

1. Dial in your why.
2. Decide how vulnerable are you willing to be?
3. Decide what you are willing to talk about.
4. Be willing to look stupid.
5. Be willing to learn.
6. Decide you don’t care how many people listen, read, subscribe!
7. Pick an amount.  How many minutes, words, etc are you going to go for.  (me it’s 8 to 15 minutes)
8. Understand that your need for perfection will slow you down.
9. Don’t listen to other peoples advice…  Yet! (except my 10 simple steps).
10. Start!  Turn on your mic and start talking.  Open your laptop and start writing…

ACIM, Chapter 14 TEACHING FOR TRUTH, Section 6 The Light of Communication.  How do I bring love to the attack moments?  How do I let the light of love dispel the moment?  How do I heal that perception?  I don’t want to feel attacked.  And some crazy thoughts of whats imaginary!  …If everything is just a mental or thought projection?  The illusion of separation creates the idea that I need to decide.  Let source interpret what’s said to me…  And the final thought; anytime I’m in judgement of somebody and I think they should be thinking, doing or acting differently, what am I going to do to fix my thinking in that moment?

Or “how much smack have I talked about man bun guy”.  But it all starts with growing a ponytail which reminds me of my youth in Jackson Hole, WY.  Which leads to my fathers eulogy and inheriting his genetic twitches.  To the meat of the matter: assuming the person is just a mirror of my own thoughts actions and ideals; how I think I’m enlightened relative to you is judgmental.  And more!

It all stems from kindergarten/first grade…  As my mother likes to tell it.  Jackson Hole WY in the mid 70’s is a hippy outpost.  I got to do my fathers Eulogy. “A life well lived, Sandy Z…  And oh yeah “he could be a prick!””.  There are sort’s of people who had asshole fathers, who earned inheritance, and didn’t get sh*t.  There is no escaping the genetic twitches of your parents…  Trying to sort out new boundaries with old friends.  Confusing support with criticism.   Often times the way I speak about the new awareness that I have is judge-ee.  I had this thought, “I’m better of just keeping my mouth shut a lot!”  If I am in a more compassionate state, would I have heard what the other person said as more compassionate?   It’s such a sweet memory of my mother.

So I was researching Jay Shetty per someone's recommendation that I “see how he does things”.  Now I don’t even know the guy, but his success stokes my competitive nature, my insecurities and defenses, and this leads me down the all unfulfilling path of resentment and judgment towards him and myself.  I get to laugh all about it on this episode and how fun it was to see it all go down in my meditation.  Life is rich :).

Loving where I am right now try #3.  Do I need more power words?  I’m trying to help people who are stuck in the executive grinder get out.  Or if your calling is in the executive grind well we can help there too.  I’m meditating and Jay Shetty is rattling around in my melon.  All the sudden my my defense mechanism kicks in and then I’m irritated at his 7.9 million followers.  Can I laugh and smile about the fact that that’s where my brain goes.  What if that was a place to play instead of a battle.  God bless Jay Shetty and all the people he is helping.  How about the illusion that where he is is the happiness.  Because that’s a shiny object.  I’m trying to hold the space of what is gods purpose for me.  Which is what is happening right now!  And now I pick the end of May for my summit, I’ll start again on Monday.  …if I get stuck on what value is it takes me out of loving where I am right now.

 3 main thoughts: First, proof that my limited thinking has kept me from seeing what is right in front of me.  Second, my friends opinions of my project drive my insecurities toward my own work, and at some point I need to stop taking in new information.  Third, other peoples online success fully throws me into compare mode and drives those insecurities home!  But it’s not as bad as it all sounds.

Loving where I am right now try #2.  I’m always surprised when I think I know it all, and I open my eyes just a little more, and how much more is out there.  “Help me see everything with fresh eyes today”.   Steve’s thinking, “How do you motivate people be more productive at work?”  And I’m sitting there thinking, “How do I help people quit their job that is sucking the life out of them?”  God how do I take what I need and leave the rest.  Steve makes me question everything…  Everyone is going to have their own opinion.  At some point I need to stop taking information in and press on with my own idea.   I’m not into framework mode right now.   How did I get the great relationship with my son and what’s compelling there?  J&y She**y, sum bitch, was not helping me love where I am right now.

It was going to be an episode on “Loving where I am, right now.”  But it turns into an exposition on Blacks Beach in San Diego.  One of the most beautiful spots in Southern California, one of the best surfing waves in the united states, and treacherous to get too.  It really could be an advertisement for my town.

Loving where I am, right now, that’s what I want.   Blacks Beach in San Diego is so beautiful.   And some more sorted details of The Blacks Beach experience.  If you grow up doing some sort of sport, you are just going to be intuitively better at it than someone who starts later in life at it, and there’s just no getting around it.  When my brother and I go skiing I’m just chasing him.  It turns into an exposition on and Blacks Beach and how extreme Blacks can be.  If you’re not used to seeing people strolling around fully naked, it’s a funny thing.   I found a new trail after 20 years!  There are gliders everywhere. This could be an advertisement for San Diego.  Everybody come to San Diego; enjoy the blacks beach experience!

John Flannery was such a fun interview; he has this dry wit which shines through in his story telling and it continually has me laughing.  I don’t know, John is just a good man.  He willingly talks about his highs and his lows, the joys and the tears, and his struggles and his breakthroughs.  He is a family man to the core, stands up for what he believes in, and has the job of his dreams.  We talk family, life, death and everything in between.

When I become Mayor!  One of the first thing I’m gonna do is take back our streets!  I catch John when he just got done playing tennis…  Who the hell plays tennis?  

Vulnerable.  John has a dry wit and it shines in his story telling.  John Flannery likes to control outcomes.  

My feelings are back.  For a long time I didn’t have them.  I feel everything today and it's a blessing and a growing opportunity.  

“I feel and think about a lot of different things and I am grateful to have friends like you who help me to decipher if I can make an impact or not”.   He is open to hearing and getting the answer he does not want.

“The truth will set you free…”  “It will put your balls in a vice script first!”

The ability to discern what to do or not.  Prayer and meditation is an option.  

John puts his money where his mouth his - One day I’m walking by a grocery store and I see dude hanging out next to a Trump booth with a sign - and it was John - and the sign says “Anyone but him”.  And the peace, love, and learning that came out of this experience is awesome.  

17 years ago he had to change, his wife was gonna leave with their kids, and by the grace of god he had had enough.  He had a spiritual experience he had to change…“I’ve never had a (spiritual experience) where I wasn’t doing something with or for somebody else.”  “I’ve never been filling Johns agenda out and had a spiritual experience!”

Can’t we just be fucking nice to each other?  Even if we don’t agree with each other…

Would you like to get punched in the face.

His sign experience showed that 95% of the people are down for peaceful of dialog…  

John Flannery is in sales and is a sales trainer and he loves what he does for work and he loves how he gets to be of service in his job.  He gets to live his calling.  He believes in the balance of the three legs of the stool; health, wealth, and relationships.

John, cursed me when I first told him to think about the fact that we are all going to die…  Now it is one of his favorite things.  

John is a family man to the core, he loves the family structure, and thrives it…  A question I have for him, “How hard is it to see a child seemingly having problems?”  A quote he heard “You’re as happy as your most unsettled kid”.  And John does not like that…  

Johns parents died when he was young; his mom when he’s 14, dad when 19…  We get to reflect on that.  Perhaps that is what bumps him on his path of self destructive behaviors that almost push his family away.

We took about the transition to starting his business Flannery Sales Systems.  His mentor at the time gives him his phd in buyer behavior, which is what selling is all about.  “Understanding what is important to the buyer.”  I was very unsure of the outcomes but I had to take the action.   His wife is integral in his leap of faith to start his business.  

The two sides of John, the foot loose and fancy free John and now we have the buttoned down John Flannery with Flannery Sales Systems; where those clash beauty comes out.  They come together in his business where he gets to travel.  The covid has put a damper on that.  But he is good at the travel in his business. It’s the connection of the people he meets where he down’t know anyone.  Or it’s meeting people like me when he comes into a new group of people.  

We get to talk about death.  Perhaps there was suppressed emotions when his mother passed when he was 14…  John affords me my interest in this point of his life.  This is a very touching and reveling moment in the interview.  And when his father dies, the worm turns and John is pissed at god.  It was a dark time. It took him a long time to grieve that.  He gets to share that with young people now and then, which is a gift for him.  

I (mischa) have a very small family - Johns large and tight knit family fascinates me.  His family is smaller today, he is down to 29 first cousins.  

Johns relatively recent crucible moments that he has come out the other side of…  we get to talk about that how he lost his faith.  It ends up reinforcing his faith and the path he is on.  “If you’re still not connect to your higher power, god, whatever…   Who moved?!”  “God had a plan, and I forgot that".  “Don’t forget what got you to your faith”.   He’s a better man for it and his connection to source is that much better for it.  

In regards to recent growth with his wife - Maybe I should ask a few more questions, and then I should be quiet…  and listen.  I don’t have to answer! With his family, “I volunteer my opinion less than ever.”  

John did some community volunteering with his son.  And the moment is very profound.  

John Flannery is good man.

It was going to be a discussion on a juicy section of “A Course In Miracles”, but I end up talking about how much I love meditation, how I approach it, and the amazing benefits in the moment and perhaps years later.  Including the calmness, the download of information, and the massive massive space it creates.

Wake up early, do an hour meditation, some prayer.  Some people are very specific how mediation should be.  I play with a much looser approach.  The hearing can go different places.  Is the clock getting louder literally?  Practicing staying in the big space :).  Thank you for letting me talk about meditation.  God how can I co-create with you today?” Now that’s a fun prayer to play with!  Loosen up the guardrails.   The profound affects of mediation arrive months, perhaps years later.  Everything slows down in such a beautiful way.  Risk reward? - Keep meditating!  I give up an hour of my time to meditate when in reality it is some of the best times of the day.

(This is the combined 4 part Matthew Cox interview w/no interruptions).  

For those of you who don’t know Matthew Cox; he was Number One on the Secret Services most wanted list for stealing $11,500,000 dollars and committing $55,000,000 in mortgage fraud all while on federal probation, all while he was on the run, all while he was committing more fraud.  Ultimately Matt was captured and sentenced to 26 years in prison.  In July 2019 he was released from prison after 12.5 years.  While in prison he began collecting and writing the true crime stories that he had the privilege of hearing…  So now Matt writes books, has rediscovered his passion for art, and… He’s smart, articulate, and may just have discovered the secrets to finding peace of mind…

Matthew Cox is set free: Matthew Cox was #1 on the Secret Service’s most wanted list and he did his prison time.  In part #1 we get introduced to Matt, just how funny he is, and just how f’ing hard it may be to go from prison, to a halfway house, to a new life on the outside…

"Nobody was making a killing as an artist!”: I dig in; you were in art school, what was it like before you were a criminal?  I ask a little more…  Fraud is an escalating addiction wouldn’t you agree?  And we get a sense of what pulled him to crime, his character, and his pending shift in perspective…  

"Con man?!?! They don’t know me!" ..."Mother F*cker you’re on the run!: “What type of person are you before the fraud?” He’s not super stoked about his answer.  When I start asking about his shift in prison; “when is the change?”  “The before and after?”  “The change in your awareness?”  It takes some pressing, but I am humbled by his answers.  “What do you have to do to stay clean from fraud?”  The bread crumbs to his current happiness…

The Ex Con’s Guide To Finding Peace: One of my (Mischa’s) favorite sayings for a good life and to keep from reverting back to "old behaviors" is “Trust in god, clean house, and work with others.”  Which translated is: put your faith in something greater than yourself, clean up your messes in life, and how can you pass it on and be of service to others.  Matthew Cox does exactly that but in his own words and on his own terms.  There is a lot to be learned from Matt Cox…

Some thoughts from A Course In Miracles today…  If I go to gods love I have to relinquish the ego and all its trappings, and I perhaps don’t want to do that.  If I’m here to learn, that means the same for you.  So, in effect, I can’t be upset with your path.  Some thoughts on playing the victim and more!

The illusions of the ego are so strong.  If I go to god I’m scared I’m gonna lose the money, the girls, the relationships, the sex, whatever.  Insert whatever my mind things it needs to be happy other than the G O D.  

A little A Course In Miracles, ACIM, Text, Teaching for truth, section 3 "The Reason For Guiltlessness." 

The happy learner cannot feel guilty about learning.  If I’m hear to learn - that means the same for you and scale it on up,

If you yield to guilt you are deciding against your happiness and you will not learn how to be happy.

If what you say, or someone says, or anyones says or does for that matter, upsets me, tweaks me or I judge it as needing it to be different …  I am playing the victim - I am blaming them for how I think feel and/or act.  I don’t like that because I want to put the responsibility for my internal centeredness onto you and people places and things.  

This is my chance, in the moment, to choose between my ego or ___________?

Choosing between the go and the inverse of ego.

At any given moment when I am disconcerted I am having a crisis of faith, and I love that!

Whether he does this or does this not will make no difference I will think he does - When I’m projecting my discontentment onto other people :).
