  • 67. Top 5 tips for healthy hormone balance with Sarah Clark

When Sarah Clark was 28 years old, she received a diagnosis of premature ovarian failure. She accepted the diagnosis and had both her children through in vitro fertilization. Years later she realized the root cause of her infertility was a food sensitivity and later a gut infection.

Sarah is a certified life coach with accreditation from the International Coaches Federation and a health coach with training from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition.

She is the author of Fabulously Fertile - Supercharge your Fertility Naturally. Her fertility coaching program, which includes functional lab testing, supports couples to make diet and lifestyle changes that dramatically improve the chances of a healthy pregnancy and baby!

On her Get Pregnant Naturally Podcast she shares that with functional medicine and natural fertility solutions we can eventually reverse infertility. Sarah has multiple guests such as doctors and nutritionists that talk the ins and outs of fertility.

Things that can help with hormones are elimination diets followed by systematically reintroducing the foods eliminated. Sarah shares on the process of finding out what exactly one needs to eliminate from the diet to have a healthy body.

Sarah's non-negotiables are eating three meals a day, and she makes sure that she is not eating on the run or eat quickly. Sarah also enjoys having a quiet time and monitoring her breathing.

  • 66 . From burnout to balance: Work less and do more! With Erin Hooley

Married two weeks after her 19th birthday, Erin is the mother to 6 children, ages 5-13. She holds no degree. She has completed no formalized training. She doesn't even know how to sew! And yet, she is the President and Founder of Bailey's Blossoms, a multi-million dollar children's e-commerce clothing line, and Peyton Bre, it's sister brand for tweens and teens. With a love for mentorship and coaching, she's the creator and host of the "Conquering Chaos" podcast and is dedicated to developing a community of individuals who believe that business and motherhood (parenthood) are NOT enemies. She's the woman who refuses to take "no" for an answer. The woman who sees opportunity where others see failure and the woman who is determined to help EVERY (man and) woman recognize their potential and find fulfillment in leading a life of balance.

Going from burnout to balance is something that Erin has experienced in her life and she is working to help others learn how to balance life and live with passion. Often times as moms we lose our passion. Erin is all about helping women thrive and pursue the passions that God gave them.

Erin shares that burnout happens when we put expectations on ourselves that we cannot meet. Setting attainable goals is the key to success. Being present is also another key to success. Being present helps one to become more efficient and add more value.

The boundaries that Erin has set in order to be present are being intentional, daily goals, and effectively communicating with those around her.

Erin has found that the boundaries and principles that she has implemented have allowed her to do more while working less!

The one upgrade that Erin has taken that has helped her is listening to music and allowing herself to slow down and play!

  • 64. Is Keto for me? With Mindy Spradlin

Mindy Spradlin is a Blue Diamond Wellness Advocate with doTERRA, the Owner of the Largest Upscale Children's Consignment Sale in the entire Southeast US, and a Certified Ketogenic Coach. Mindy deeply loves entrepreneurship and embraces it fully! She is married to her very NON-entrepreneur husband who spends his time saving lives as an EMT. Together they have 4 kids, ranging in age from 6-15. Her sister, Mary, gifted her a Wellness Advocate account and Family Essentials Kit for Christmas one year, and Mindy was unimpressed. She didn't touch her oils for months, but through a health crisis with her son, she slowly started opening the bottles and fell in love. Mindy was completely closed to the business aspect of doTERRA for 4 months, but as her friends began asking her more and more questions, Mindy realized that this very well could be a legitimate side business. Mindy doesn't do a lot of things half way, and what she thought would be a side business has grown into something beyond her wildest dreams. In addition to providing amazing health tools, doTERRA has been a true blessing and given Mindy and her husband the opportunity and margin to repair and redeem an immensely damaged marriage. Mindy's top 5 strengths are Activator, Ideation, Achiever, Futuristic, and Relator.

Mindy shares that she has struggled with her weight most of her life. Learning to address her weight issues from a place of love and not a place of hate has helped her stay motivated. The greatest upgrade that Mindy has taken has been recognizing that she didn't want to stay where she was physically or mentally.

After having ankle surgery, Mindy knew that she needed to have a mental change to commit to and she researched and found the ketogenic diet. Mindy shares about being intentional in her choices and knowing that those choices are important for her health.

Things that Mindy does every day to live intentionally are meal planning, self care, and getting good rest. Some good resources that Mindy recommends are Craig and Maria Emmerich, Dr. Josh Axe, and Dr. Ken Berry.

The Next Right Thing is the book that Mindy is currently reading, Mindy loves Lily's brand of chocolate, and she would love people to know that she is really an introvert.

  • 63. All things fasting with Lindsay Huelse

Lindsay lives in the North Houston area in a little suburb called The Woodlands, Texas with her husband of three years and their Vizsla Elmer. She is the creator of The FAST Track To Fit which is a lifestyle method that combines intermittent fasting and carb cycling in a holistic and comprehensive way. Lindsay's background is in nursing which is why she is so passionate about the health and wellness industry. She has seen and been a part of the entire spectrum of life from L&D to home health and hospice, which is where she ended her corporate career. Lindsay is on a mission to empower women to ditch the quick fix mindset and create a sustainable lifestyle!

Lindsay is a return guest! If you missed her last podcast make sure that you check out episode 28!

Today, we discuss intermittent fasting, which is shortening the time that you allow yourself to eat to a specific window. Lindsay busts myths about intermittent fasting and shares tricks on how to be healthy and successful while you fast.

The benefits of fasting are giving your body time to breakdown or cleanse your cells so that you are able to refuel with fresh cells. Eating between a 6-8 hour window and fasting for about 16-18 hours is typical.

Fasting allows you to understand your body more and also reset your body from using sugar for fuel to burning fat. Make sure that you are doing the fast to promote cell rejuvenation and not to punish yourself for eating poorly the day before.

Fasted workouts are a type of fasting that allows your body to burn fat. Not eating before working out allows you to burn the carbs and fat first. Then after your workout, it is ok not to eat right after you finish. When you do eat, you will want to eat protein and complex carbs so that your muscles will soak up all the glycogen.

Today on the podcast we share an interview with The Organic Dietitian, Sara Korzeniewski. As return guest, Sara's first episode was one of our most listened to podcasts! Be sure to listen to episode 10 where Sara shares the biggest mistakes people make when healing their gut.

This episode is all about hormones. Sara shares how one's diet can affect the hormonal balance. The top 3 issues that may indicate hormone imbalance are 1) irregular periods 2) trouble losing weight 3) cyst, fibroids, and gallbladder issues as these can be indicative of estrogen dominance.

Sara highly recommends doing the homework and finding as much information as possible when it comes to birth control. Using birth control pills can contribute to a lot of gut issues and hormone imbalances.

Gut health and hormonal balance go hand in hand. If you have gut issues, your hormones are going to have issues as well.

Some tests that Sara recommends for are GI mapping and dutch testing. HTMA or Hair Trace Mineral Analysis is another test that Sara recommends that shows the heavy metals in your body. Looking at the thyroid, getting a full panel test and making sure that the person that is evaluating the test is reading the results thoroughly are key.

Sara suggests removing toxins and supporting healthy gut through diet.

  • 59. Eating for your body type with Maggie Berghoff

Maggie Berghoff is a functional medicine nurse practitioner-turned-health entrepreneur who works with high-level executives, entrepreneurs, and some of the most influential leaders in the world. She guides you to create an environment for success and to develop a healthy peak performance lifestyle from the inside out.

Maggie works with clients who have autoimmune diseases, but also with clients that have hormonal and gut issues. Finding out what the root of the problem is instead of just taking medicine is very important to Maggie.

Biochemical individuality is a big word to say that your body is unique. So even if you have the same symptoms as someone else doesn't mean that the treatment will be the same. Functional testing can help one to find the best way to create the perfect game plan for healing one's body.

Maggie is trying to end the diet cycle or yo-yo diet trends. In Maggie's practice, she encourages getting to know the individual's body and understanding what the best nutrition plan is. Breathing is also a way to slow the body down and helps the body to relax, this will also help to not overeat.

Maggie loves almond butter and apples, self-development books and her special morning treat is a good matcha latte.

  • 58. What are Detox Pathways and are yours open? with Lauren Keller

Lauren graduated with a MA in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University as well as a MS in Nursing from Emory University. She is a licensed APRN and Certified Nurse Midwife. Lauren spent 7 years of her life working in hospitals throughout the USA, delivering babies and providing GYN care to under-served populations. However, in 2013, everything changed and she became extremely ill with Lyme disease, POTS and mold toxicity. After 1.5 years of searching for answers within the standard western medical system and realizing they didn't have any, this sparked her journey into functional medicine and alternative healthcare. She became an expert in chronic stealth infections and found wellness through detoxification methods, brain retraining and functional medicine. After her recovery, she became dedicated to finding the root cause of illness for her patients and devoted her practice to those suffering from the same chronic illnesses that she once had. Lauren now exclusively treats her patients using functional medicine and mind-body medicine techniques.

In her spare time, Lauren enjoys horseback riding, yoga, time at the beach and reading. She is on a lifelong mission to continue learning and growing to best serve her patients.

After struggling with Lyme disease, Lauren took a turn in her career to help others with their struggles with chronic illness. Lauren discusses detoxing and why it is so important. We are inundated with chemicals in our shampoos, lotions and cleaning materials and although we have organs in our body that detox for us, it is important to help our body to flush out those toxins.

One of the biggest signs that ones detox pathways aren't open is when he or she is not having regular bowel movements. Sweating is also a great way to detoxify, wearing deodorant that has harsh chemicals will clog up your lymphatic system. Using an armpit mask is a wonderful way to clean out the lymphatic system. By simply mixing a bentonite clay and some apple cider vinegar and smearing it on the armpits, much like a face mask. Diet is also crucial. Make sure that fiber and water intake is high. Hydration is key and adding things like dandelion or ginger teas will help to detox. Saunas and hot yoga are other options for opening up the sweat pathways.
