Cocaine Bear refers to a true story from 1985 involving a 175-pound black bear found dead in the Georgia woods after fatally overdosing on cocaine dropped from a drug smuggler’s plane. The incident began when Andrew Thornton, a Kentucky narcotics cop-turned-trafficker, dumped duffel bags filled with millions of dollars’ worth of cocaine from his small aircraft as he attempted to parachute out—the parachute malfunctioned, killing him.
