    In the United States

    And how Liberalism

    Has Created a Mediocre Society

Ralph Saucier was born in 1943 a time when the world was in the grip of WW2 and the Korean War, it was a time he best describes as a time of simply surviving. Fort Fairfield, a small community town in Aroostook County, eastern Maine in the United States close to the Canadian border was the place he grew up along with six other siblings to keep him in check. Being the middle child, he quickly realised he had to adapt, co-exist with others to sustain himself. Those valuable lessons of his childhood stood him in good faith right to this very day. His parents were hard working folk, they had to be raising a family of seven in the fifties and sixties, there were no luxuries to speak of life was routine and mundane back then. Ralph found school challenging as he battled with a stammer, coming to terms with his speech impediment was difficult for him at times for not having the ability to communicate with those around him in a fluent manner had a profound effect on him, and at times isolated within himself others saw him as a loner. However, despite this set back which he overcame with true determination Ralph has flourished as well as prospered to be the successful man he is today.  Here’s a look our chat on video:

It’s fair enough to say Ralph has led a varied life since he graduated from High School in 1961, he joined the army, he’s undertaken numerous degrees from Industrial Technology to Behavioural Science, he’s worked in the field of Engineering, into management of assorted areas to eventually running his own vending machine business employing more than forty people. Over the years Ralph has conquered his speech impediment to the extent public speaking is no longer a fear for him but a joy, something he relishes with gusto.

Having chatted to Ralph I get the impression he overcompensated his speech difficulties with reading and writing, he confesses to being a voracious reader and when you add in his other great passion in life Politics, you start to see the creative signs behind this book. His parents were die-hard democrats and in his earlier days he was as well, but as his life progressed his political philosophy shifted towards the republican camp where it has remained ever since. Ralph would probably see himself as a fervent republican, but he doesn’t always agree with the party line views even when out canvassing for republican candidates in both local and national standings.

The book neatly brings together the three great preoccupations in Ralph’s life, reading, writing and politics. The book has thirteen chapters and each chapter touches on individual US presidents from Theodore Roosevelt the New Nationalism to the present US president Joe Biden- Where are we going. The Presidents he talks about with their political agendas he sees as the Presidents who added the most to the progressive movement that brought about the most profound changes to liberalism in the US. The attributes and falls of the Presidents he chose are fascinating to read and when you read the book like I have you might be left feeling Ralph has a reasonable affinity to some of the policies Donald Trump instigated. In the book there are presidents from both divides of America’s political landscape. You might well ask does Ralph feel his chosen presidents have done sufficient to warrant a gold star for bringing about positive and effective changes to America’s society and standing in the world? I get the impression they’ve done a mediocre job hence the use of the word’ Mediocre’ in the title and when you look up the meaning of mediocre it reflects to moderate to inferior in quality. So, is American society broken? Or where is it going?

This book of Ralph E Saucer’s was for me a phenomenal read to which I thoroughly enjoyed.

    Words Choose Wisely

Paola Iglesias was born in Buenos Aires the capital of Argentina. At the age of six months, she emigrated with her family to Australia for what her parents saw as a better life. Paola currently lives in Sydney with her two children, Oscar sixteen and Emmeline twelve. As a qualified chartered architect, she thoroughly enjoys designing and creating dream homes for people, with her own unique touch of magic. I know this has nothing to do with the book we’re going to talk about, but it gives you a brief insight to Paola herself and what she does professionally, have a look at some of her designs www.houzz.com.au

We all know life very often doesn’t turn out as you originally hoped for and that relationships can stray as well as bloom. You might be forgiven for thinking why I have digressed to talk about relationships, have I become an agony aunt? Well, the answer to that is no, but there is some bearing to relationships souring as to why Paola has written this book. The book encompasses issues of domestic violence, elaborate bullying both non-physical more mental all done through inappropriate choice of words, words spoken derogatively to undermine, belittle, to such an extent the person on the receiving end feels utterly valueless, demeaned, resulting in dreams shattered, families ripped apart, and possibly wrong life options taken all due to ill-judged words that over a long period of endurance have devastating effects on the recipient. Words like, unattractive, unintelligent, unwanted, stupid and irrelevant. Why someone chooses to denigrate another, through misplaced adopted words is sad as well as harmful, and I think most of us can think back to our time in school when someone said something hurtful, whether it was said innocently or with malice intent.

Paola herself has experienced a lot of what I have just said and strongly believes that to address this area we need to start by educating our children to think about the choice of
words they say to each other which she hopes will continue into their adulthood and the relationships they enter. So, Paola in collusion with her son Oscar’s illustrations who at the time was thirteen has written this short but simple book aimed at nine to twelve-year-olds to make them think about the words they choose to say to their friends and what affect those words have on their friends. So, ’Words Choose Wisely.’ The book is written in English, Spanish and French so large sways of the world’s youth can read the book and think about the illustrations.

The book can be obtained from the Amazon link below or alternatively from her publishers www.balboapress.com.au search bookstore Paola Iglesias. The book is available in Softcover as well as Ebook.

Enjoy this simple but effective book, all about the choice of words we use to talk to each other, be as children who the booked is directed at or as so-called adults. Let’s remember words can be amazing but equally they can be harmful when taken out of context.

Thank you, Paula, Oscar and Emmeline, for this wonderful book.

    Leon the Warrior Dog

Cyril Sansum is fastidious in his approach to writing, something he has developed over the last few years. Writing is his new passion, the driving force behind his days. When you look at his life you can’t but think, was writing a hidden macromolecule that lay quietly secreted on a forgotten DNA strand that only activated recently by an unexplained force of nature.

You might forgive me for thinking the above, but when you look back at Cyril’s life, you’ll discover he was a butcher, a chef, a youth worker as well as fulfilling other jobs. No hint of creative writing until now, so where has this magical macromolecule been lurking all this time. Maybe it’s his love of storytelling along with his interest in reading historical facts especially history relating to past military events that was the trigger point to writing this book, for when you look closely at it you can clearly see strong aspects of ancient Roman military traits coursing through the pages.

CY as Cyril likes to be known as lives in the Windsor area of The UK and has been married to his wife Diane for close to fifty-eight years. He has three sons Nick, Dan and David, ten grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.

The story is built around the relationship between Beat the main Protagonist and Leon his powerful Anatolian shepherd dog around the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine 313 AD.

C Y sets the original scene in Arialbinnum a small farming village in Switzerland, to give you a geographical sense of the location in today’s world you are looking around the area of Basle. Beat is a young Shepherd man from the Helvetti people. The Helvetti anglicized as Helvetians were a Celtic tribe or tribal confederation who in Roman times occupied the central Swiss plateau. To the north where the Alemanni tribe and the Goths who played a major role in the fall of the Western Roman Empire and the emergence of medieval Europe. To the south across the Gotthard Pass was Rome and the Roman Empire who by now under Constantine’s decree adopted Christianity something the Goths refuted. Beat is enticed into the Roman Army and quickly escalates up the promotion scales as he successfully overcomes all that he encounters from the warring tribes opposed to Rome’s ways and rules particularly around Christianity. Leon his faithful Turkish Anatolian shepherd dog who acts as his bodyguard is there to protect him. Along the way Beat meets Princess Sky, Tia and Lia. These three women have a profound effect on him and towards the end a little romance starts to emerge.

With reference to history in particular military history interwoven with a good adventure storyline and a smattering of romance the book Leon the Warrior Dog really does come to life, to make an enjoyable read.

    Polina Mladenova

Polina Mladenova lives in London in the UK with her three children. She hasn’t always lived in London for in fact she was born in Bulgaria and now identifies as being British/Bulgarian. Polina as well as being a mother and an author is an ambitious business entrepreneur, founding the Khlovenova Beauty and Couture House, The Abundant Life Foundation Ministry, she’s also responsible for the Kings & Queens Living the Abundant Life TV show. Further to these activities Polina teaches business strategies, modules, and Kingdom Mindset concepts for budding entrepreneurs all based on biblical adaptations that allow prosperous and fruitful business adventures to thrive with God’s original plan at the heart of everything. To understand her philosophy to life and more about her business adventures including her book you can head to a couple of websites www.PolinaMladenova.com/About and www.KingdoMastermind.com

This book isn’t a book for you to sit comfortably curled up on a settee or to be taken as a bit of light bedtime reading, it’s a book that will prick your conscience, it’s a book that will open your mind, and you’ll need to keep an open mind as parts of it for me were quite contentious and possibly controversial. The book’s intention and that of Polina’s as far as I can see is to get you to see life from a different angle, a life that has more of God’s original plan at its core a so-called Kingdom Mindset which I understand to mean as having a mind rational of accepting that God has the right to do with us as he pleases and our role is to use the abilities he gave us to advance the Gospel preachings and his Kingdom through our everyday transactions.

Polina clearly believes that God has given her a promise, a blessing in life, a plan if you want to view it that way and that both she and God will fulfil each other’s obligations. The book talks about blessings, promises, fruitfulness, reaping and sowing with lots of interesting cross-references to biblical texts in support of this amazing ideological thinking put forward here. For me what’s equally as interesting is the choice of modern-day bible versions Polina has chosen to support her work with here as opposed to the more traditional bible interpretations. I was also intrigued to see that at the end of each chapter Polina links you one of her social platforms www.linktr.ee/TheAundantLife.Ac that reveals more about her works, ideology and of course the ebook version. Very clever.

Overall, I found the book interesting, eye-opening but it’s certainly not a bedtime story read and if my judgement proves me right, I will say Polina never intentionally wrote the book to be a light read as she has some strong messages to convey to her readers. Those of a non-belief might find this book a real challenge, but those that do have a faith following you just might be interested to give this book ago. So, give it ago.

You can get the book by looking on one of Polina’s many social platforms, the links are above. Plus www.authorhouse.com bookstore search Polina Mladenova, or simply click the Amazon link below.

Thank you Polina Mladenova for an interesting and eye-opening book that for most of us views life from a different angle.

    A Short Book of Poetry

    and thoughts to share

Maryanne Wright was born in the Ringwood area, south-west Hampshire near Bournemouth in the UK. Her parents were missionaries which meant Maryanne as a child and young person lived in various locations in the world from Ghana to Australia and to New Zealand where she currently resides. Maryanne has lived in New Zealand for close to forty years but during those years she has returned to the UK on several occasions to pursue a career in the financial sector. Maryanne has worked for various banking conglomerates as well as other financial institutions and has even turned her hand to being a software support analyst something she thoroughly enjoyed. Maryanne currently teaches numeracy and literacy to disadvantaged young people who are establishing a career in New Zealand’s defence systems.

An interesting fact about Maryanne is that when she was in the Ghanaian Capital Accra she went to the same school as the children of Ghana’s first president, President Kwame Nkrumah who led Ghana to independence from Britain.

Maryanne has two grown up children Nicholas who lives in Auckland and Lauren who resides in Cambridge North Island of New Zealand where Maryanne currently lives.

In the introduction to her book Maryanne states that the poems she has so diligently written are for lovers, dreamers, and those that weep much like herself. The book was written during New Zealand’s Covid lockdown and as for so many it was a testing time for Maryanne. The poems reflect happier times in her life and while she was writing them the poems in themselves acted as a kind of distraction as to what was going on in her own life at that time.

When you look at the book, you’ll see that the poems are grouped under six categories, life, seasons, family, emotions, fantasy, and finally but not least, nature. Each poem is accompanied with a stunning picture which strengthens and emphasises the message the poem conveys. Some of the pictures are ones Maryanne took herself while out walking and are scenes from local beauty spots close-by. If you have ever been to New Zealand like me, you’ll soon realise that natural beauty is in abundance. So, I simply say enjoy the poems and cast your eyes over the imposing pictures. I certainly did.

Another interesting fact about Maryanne is her fascination almost obsession with J R R Tolkien’s books hence the poems of dragons in the fantasy section.

To find out more about Maryanne Wright head to her webpage www.maryannewright.com There you’ll find a link to her book which is available in both paperback and eBook versions.

    A Sack Full of Blood

Michael Lee King is the author of several books, The Greatest Mystery Ever Revealed: The Mystery of The Will of God (Book 1): The Image of God. The Greatest Mystery Ever Revealed: The Mystery of The Will of God (Book 2): Growing In Grace. The Greatest Mystery Ever Revealed: The Mystery of The Will of God (Book 3): The Obedience of Faith. The fourth book in the series The Mystery of Satan is due out shortly. For the purpose of this podcast though, we’re going to be talking to Michael about his book A Sack Full of Blood.

Bishop King was named after the Archangel Michael, one of the four archangels. Michael is the archangel deemed to be the chief of the angels and archangels and responsible for the care of Israel. The world’s great religions of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam refer to Michael as an archangel, so to be named after the archangel must be a great privilege in Michael Lee King’s eyes and those around him. Michael graduated in 1982 with a degree in Music Education from North Carolina Central University, in 1986 he further graduated with a Juris Doctorate Degree with honours from North Carolina University School of Law, Durham, North Carolina. The rigorous Pentecostal training he undertook to perfect his preaching’s was closely mentored by Elder Ivey L.Cowan, Elder C.F. Jones Jackson and Dr Gregg Singer. As a bishop in the Emmanuel Churches worldwide, he has executed immeasurable evangelism and missionary work in South Africa, Alabama in the U.S. as well as other developing nations. Publishing his books Bishop King’s aim is to strengthen his missionary work, teachings, that he has carried out around the world especially for those that hunger and thirst after the Word of God.

Michael is the third child of two preachers, Annie Lee and Nathan King Sr, he married his wife Angela in 1984 raised six children and currently has four grandchildren who both he and his wife dote on very much. Bishop King presently pastors Damascus Church of the Emmanuel Churches, performs bishopric duties for the churches founded by Bishop Leroy R. Mills in Florida USA, and works in teaching fellowship with Bishop Robert Lee Huey.Jr, Charlotte, North Carolina.

    A Sack Full of Blood

A Sack Full of Blood is the chronicled recollection of happenings regarding the life of two run away twelve-year-old children Leroy Mills and Hattie Mae Caldwell. Both Leroy and Hattie dedicated their lives to the teachings of the Lord through Pentecostalism a charismatic religious movement that gave rise to several protestant churches in the United States in the 20th century.

The energy and the dynamic methods they adopted to bring about Pentecostal changes to the local communities they lived in by encouraging Christians, mainly among the black African American population who followed the more traditional religions of Baptists and Methodists to seek a post-conversion religious experience called” baptism with the Holy Spirit and Jesus,” was for me simply breath-taking.

For Hattie as a black woman not only did she have to comply with the Jim Crow Laws of segregation that existed at the time but equally she had to deal with the all-male dominated hierarchy that prevailed among the more traditional churches. It was Hattie’s unflinching domineering characteristics that brought about the changes with regards to women’s standing within the religious communities of America’s south, predominately in the locations she vociferously worked and lived in.

Life for Hattie was hard as she faced many uphill battles on numerous fronts to achieve her goals, but that in dominate spirit that was at the very core of her inner soul saw her through the toughest of times she faced in her life until her death from cancer in 1964 at the age of 61. One gutsy woman you might say who didn’t mind who she rubbed the wrong way as she fervently pursed what she perceived to be the Lord’s calling to her. Leroy and all the other characters in the book had it tough, but not quite as tough as Hattie.

The writings in this extremely well written book are based on the true lives of Michael Lee King’s close family, past and present as well as friends.

    Blusher’s First Christmas

    Illustrations by John Dunn.

Teresa Rowland lives in the Sydney area of Australia she has written this sweet children’s book about saving Christmas for all the children across the world. Santa Claus has hurt his leg and Rudolf has gone to the great reindeer haven in the sky. Saving Christmas is down to Mrs Claus and Rudolf’s daughter Blusher and her friends. Christmas and children mean a lot to Teresa Rowland hence the creation of this delightful book aimed at four to eight-year-olds.

The book is wonderfully illustrated with vivid pictures, pictures that any child would positively respond to, they’re captivating and imaginative. John (Jack) Thomas Dunn studied under H. Hanke at Sydney Royal Art Society; he’s illustrated numerous books for different authors.

Teresa started writing children’s books in her forties, her first book was called Chunky’s Coming of Age all about a little car journeyed on the roads on its own.

So, what’s Blusher’s First Christmas all about? Well, it’s a simple story all about Blusher a young female Reindeer with pink cheeks and the adventures she has with her friend Dumpee a short stumpy reindeer with rather large ears, there adventures in the woods and beyond are brought to an abrupt end as a crisis has arisen at the North Pole, Santa Claus has hurt his leg, Rudolf has gone to the great reindeer haven in the sky, and all the other reindeer that used to pull Santa’s sleigh across the sky on Christmas Eve are old and not up to the job any more. Enter Mrs Claus and Blusher who turns out to be Rudolf’s daughter, to save Christmas and along with Blusher’s girlfriends including Dumpee who all turn out to be the daughters of Santa’s original set of reindeer that pulled Santa’s sleigh across the skies on Christmas eve. Reindeer girl-power so to speak takes to the skies to save Christmas and make sure children across the world get their presents on time for Christmas morning all under the watchful gaze of Mrs Claus and Blusher.

An endearing little story, but a book that had the support of her husband Wal, daughter Barbara and son-in-law Stephen, son Mark and daughter-in-law Rachel, grandchildren Christopher, Kane, Brianna, Cory and great grandson Phoenix. To this list we must add members of the Camden Writers and Scribblers club, particularly Grace Sewell. Gayle Fairall, Jan and Evan Lepherd.

    Standing Alone

    A Flavor of Stories

Paul Jones was born in Pine Bluff Jefferson County, a small town in the US state of Arkansas that lies to the south of the state capital Little Rock. He was raised by his mother who was a pivotal figure in his life. Today he lives with his wife Candice to whom he has been married to for fifteen years. He has two sons from a previous marriage, Justin and Jordan who as a devoted father mean so much to him, not to mention Brentley his Goddaughter who he dotes on to say the least.

At the age of fifteen Paul left home having completed high school, he served in the US Armed Forces as well as serving as a law enforcement officer and Prison officer. At the age of fifty-six he sees himself as retired with a new full-time passion in his life, writing. If you ask his friends how they see him in relation to cars they’d describe him as a ‘car nurd.’

Paul is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc, which is the first intercollegiate African American fraternity. It was initially a literary and social studies club organised in the 1905-1906 school year of Cornell University. Today its aims are, “Manly Deeds, Scholarship, and Love for All Mankind,” aspects that underpin the core of what Paul Jones as a man upholds and believes steadfastly in. Paul has a bachelor’s degree from American Intercontinental University in Criminal Justice, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude (with the highest distinction).

Several books have been written to which he rightly claims credit too, Jake Waking Up to say Good-Bye, and Living Life Poems to Live By. Paul has received numerous awards throughout his life and most recently the Trafford Publishing Gold Seal of Literary Excellence. However, for the purpose of this podcast we are going to look at two further books Paul Jones has written, and they are Standing Alone and A Flavor of Stories.

    Standing Alone

Standing Alone is a book of poetry that is meant to inspire and touch the living psyche (Inner-self). It’s a fusion of poetry with relevant biblical extracts. This collection of, for me reflective spiritual poems, is awe-inspiring, spiritually uplifting as you explore the underlying tones and messages that are beautifully embodied at the heart of each poetic text. A great and must read.

    A Flavor of Stories

A Flavor of Stories is a book of fifteen short stories rather than poems with a hint of rhythm to them. Again, Paul Jones has underpinned the stories with deep and spiritual meanings. Why does Paul do this you may well ask? Well, the answer to that is simple. Paul is a Christian who hasn’t always adhered to the righteous paths and like most of us has deviated along life’s many channels some good, some not, but above all he has a deep-rooted faith that he wants to share and the best way for him to do that is through his writings. For me the last story in this book,’ A letter to My Friend,’ sums up the very essence of what Paul is trying to achieve through is writings especially when he talks about loneliness when you are surrounded by people and family, but you are alone. You feel God has left you to face your thoughts and demons all by yourself. “As I walk through the valley of shadows of death.” Like Standing Alone this is another great and must-read book.

So, Guess what! Give the books a read. Standing Alone is available in paperback, kindle edition and hardcover. A flavor of stories is available in Paperback and Kindle edition.

For more information about Paul Jones head to his webpage www.pauljonesthewriter.com

    Windows of Wonder:

Eight Timeless Tales for Today and Tomorrow

Bob Weatherly is from Florida in the USA; he’s been a deep-rooted spiritualist for as long as he can remember. Bob has a natural ability to tell stories something that comes across passionately in these somewhat quirky but intriguing eight short stories. He went to Mararishi International University as well as Longwood University where he obtained a degree in History. In the past he’s been a teacher and a park ranger two very contrasting careers you might say, nevertheless he enjoined these diverse pathways, to which we add his love of creative literature, hence his love of writing. He firmly believes that we and especially young adults/mature kids can all overcome our inner inhibitions and achieve the goals we set ourselves, be they big or small. For Bob the best way to subtlety convey this message to the younger generation was through his creative storytelling, hence his choice to write this children’s book possibly aimed at 9- 12-year-olds.

These fairy tales, ancient folklore, mythological adventure stories are written in a classical style and introduce kids to knights of the realm, damsels, aliens, witches, alchemists, Native American Indians, and other enthralling characters that lurk between the pages. All the eight stories are very different but seated at the heart of each tale runs a common theme and that is we can overcome our own unassertiveness to accomplish matters.

Here’s a look at our video chat:

The stories are set out as follows:

Window One-The Magic Broom. A simple story of a how a boy swept his way from the stables to the King’s Palace.

Window Two-The Forest People. A story told through the characters Jim and Gem of town folk and the mystery people who lived deep in the forest.

Window Three-Sitting Brave. A story of Running Bird a Native American Indian boy who was different to the rest of his tribe.

Window Four-Daughters of the Moon. A story of one clergyman’s venture to find a wife and the witches he stumbled across along the way.

Window Five-The Mystic Knight. A story of Gaulipher’s adventures to become a knight of the realm and the monastery which was a little unusual to say the least.

Window Six- A Cosmic Cat’s Tale. A story of Cal’s relationship with his animals especially Midnight the young kitten he came across.

Window Seven- Mentallion. A story built around the characters Chance and Veda (the man of the ocean) Mentallion is the technology of the mind. It allows our thinking to transcend the borders of the known. A futuristic story.

Window Eight-The Seeker. A story! well I’m not going to tell you, read it for yourself.

Bob Weatherly admits that this book of his has a unique angle to it, I’d say quirky. He’s a strong proponent of human potential especially for kids, but above all he just wants kids and adults alike to enjoy his short stories. For me Sitting Brave was the best story but that’s because I have great affection for the Native American Indians. If as a child, you loved the adventures of Howard Pyle’s King Arthur and the knights of the roundtable fables then you’ll love The Mystic knight, for both stories have a similar vein to them.

Thank you, Bob, for giving me the opportunity to review your book which you can all view, share, buy, on the Amazon link below. You can also go to www.authorhouse.com or [email protected] to order copies. The book is available in hardback or eBook.
