Teaching Your Teen “How to College” with Dr. Andrea Brenner

Listen Later

Are you worried about the day you drop your teen at college and leave them to “adult” on campus without you?

Dr. Andrea Malkin Brenner, sociologist and co-author of “How To College”, joins Lisa to share insights gained from her decades of work with college students at American University. By starting early while still in high school, her suggestions will help get both you and your student be ready for this major life transition.

Dr. Malkin Brenner directs your family to the many resources available to your child on campus and you’ll learn about first year experience (FYE) programs available at most universities to support your student. American University has a unique program different from other FYE’s and she’ll tell you why she create it to be different. By understanding this, you’ll know to research those outlets during campus visits and before high school graduation.

Learn why Andrea cautions against assuming a high IQ means your teen can manage campus life and what you can do to set them up for success. Using her “Talking College” card deck provides a way to put your student in the driver’s seat and put you at ease as they start college.
