It's a pleasure to speak this week with Jess Remington, an accomplished strategist focused on designing ethical, resilient systems for our future economy. Dr Colin O’Gara is a Consultant Psychiatrist and Clinical Associate Professor at University College Dublin. He is a graduate of University College Cork medical school (1999) and has postgraduate qualifications from the Postgraduate Medical Education and Training Board (PMETB, UK) in General Adult Psychiatry and Substance Misuse Psychiatry. He trained within the NHS Maudsley Hospital rotational schemes at registrar and specialist registrar levels (2000-2006), attaining membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in 2003. 

During this time he also researched addiction genetics at the Institute of Psychiatry, London. He was awarded a PhD from King's College London in 2010. He is a Consultant Psychiatrist and head of addiction services at Saint John of God Hospital since 2007, leading clinical activities, service development, research and teaching programmes in addiction. 

During this time, he has worked with a wide range of talented multidisciplinary clinical and management colleagues, building holistic non-confrontational detoxification and rehabilitation services. His recent academic and service development work has been featured in international journals and medical publications.

Dr Francis Valloor is an author, international speaker and professional trainer who creates and conducts mindfulness and awareness workshops, seminars and courses in Ireland, India, the UK and USA. He is the author of ‘A Dewdrop in the Ocean – Wisdom Stories for Turbulent Times’ (2009) and ‘Seeing Your Face Without A Mirror – Mindfulness Stories of Self-Realisation’ (2018). Much of our discussion will gather ideas and momentum from these two books. However, Francis is a prolific writer; his other books require the same esteem and rigorous exploration.

Although his lifelong quest has brought him in contact with many outstanding spiritual teachers, friends and several masters and sages, one, in particular, Anthony de Mello, is credited with setting him on the path of awareness. Following the death of his mentor and guide, Francis worked as the director of Sadhana Institute in Lonavla, India, for fourteen years before spending two years as a visiting scholar at the University of Notre Dame.

Today, he resides in Dublin, Ireland, where he works as a Clinical Psychologist in private practice, primarily focussing on individual and group psychotherapy, psychological and neuropsychological assessments, relationships and mindfulness.

Given the diversity of his background and work, there is so much that Dr Valloor has to offer our audience from an incredible range of personal and professional perspectives.

Christian Straka is a mental performance coach and has been working in professional sports for over 30 years, during which time he has been training World Champions across different sports and developed a unique approach through methodologies for applying evidence-based mindfulness techniques in sports to optimize performance. 

He has worked with world champions in various sports, including former world #1 tennis player Victoria Azarenka and world #10 Andrea Petkovic. He was the personal coach for both, and when Mike Bryan won the ATP Tour World Championship in 2018, he employed Christian as his mental performance coach.  

His unique approach to mindset training has yielded transferable skills and results across different sports but might also transcend sporting competition and can be applied holistically in anyone’s life.

Reed Maltbie is a public speaker and motivator. More than anything else, he is a coach who has made it his life’s work to help create the best environments for athletes to achieve peak performance – on and off the field. 

‘Coach Reed’ has set up training programs within various highly successful sporting organisations, including the Gaelic Games Association, US Sailing, USA Swimming, the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee, and the Pro Golf Association of Canada. He is a former athlete and later earned master’s degrees in sports psychology and early childhood development. 

He speaks candidly through a lifetime of personal reflection and thirty years of professional coaching experience. His book, ‘The Spartan Mindset’, due out in April 2023, focuses significantly on the impact of language on performance. It is a must-read for anyone who strives to be a more effective and supportive communicator in the sporting world and beyond.

His mission is to change work from the inside out by “mainstreaming mindfulness” and “operationalizing compassion”. He put that mission into practice in his previous role as Head of Mindfulness and Compassion at LinkedIn, as well as putting it to paper in his 2021 book ‘The Full Body Yes: Change Your Work and Your World from the Inside Out’.
