Attitude: how your mindset is reflected and manifested in your personality and what you physically do so we wanted to give some examples of how to keep a healthy attitude in some of the trickiest situations

I am getting a divorce. 

• Talk about the joy it brought you instead.
• What did the hurt teach you?
• Find something new to look forward to.
• Accept that you both could have done better, but now learn from the lesson.
• Pour into other relationships you might have neglected
• Do a relaunch

I just lost my job.

• Allow yourself to feel the pain and grief of losing your job. Having a positive outlet means you get up after life let you down.
• Create a plan and take care of the basics as opposed to focusing on the uncertainty.
• Take this as an opportunity to get clear about your dream job.
• Focus on the long-term instead of the short-term.
• Do a life-edit

Someone I loved dearly just died.

• Celebrate the life lived.
• Keep a gratitude journal specifically about that person.
• Ask for the comfort you need.
• Delegate what you can.
• Don’t feel guilty for moments of joy

I recently developed a major illness.

• Take the invitation to slow down 
• Put effort into researching your own improvement plan.
• Treat yourself to some self-care every day.
• Practice meditation.
• See health as a process not an outcome
• Avoid seeing the illness as an identity, it is only one part of your life

• Attitudes can be positive, negative, and uncertain

Your attitude determines how you react with the world. It’s external.

• Ruled by your conscious mind and is the 5% that your 95% mindset sets in motion 
• Determined by watching actions
• Attitudes can be “faked” or “feigned”

First, get clear about your attitudes

• Stop comparing yourself out loud or showing evidence of it outright
  • Recognize you and everyone else is unique and different…and should be!
  • Develop your own set of standards of what good character is so you aren’t using someone else’s measuring stick
  • But also, surround yourself with people with positive attitudes
• Take care of yourself physically, emotionally, financially, sexually…
  • Internal dialogue becomes external behavior
  • If you don’t feel cared for, it’s hard to care for others in the world
  • You can’t pour from an empty cup
  • Find what fulfills you and do it regularly…not when you’ve run out of steam and are in crisis
• Build up your self-confidence and look like it
  • Tell yourself how amazing you are for what you’ve already accomplished (write yourself love notes, don’t take opportunities to belittle yourself, etc.)
  • Keep yourself motivated so you can keep going when it’s hard to accomplish difficult tasks (ask yourself for help when you need it, be unwilling to let yourself down)
• Believe in yourself
  • If you don’t, who will?
• Laugh…often
  • If you spend time laughing, you won’t spend time frowning
• Permit yourself to be loved
  • Stop sabotaging your relationships because you’ve told yourself you’re unworthy
  • Open yourself to the possibility of it…everywhere
  • Act like a person who is loved instead of the person who has been wounded

• Mindset stays with you unless you change it

• Helps you to not focus on the things you can’t change, but rather focus on things you can create.
• Can be changed with practice and effort.

First get clear about your mindset

• Sometimes we develop mindsets from a place of fear
  • Embrace your fears
    • Embrace pain, failure, and disappointment
    • Discover how you can use these “negative” feelings to learn from them
    • Understand that you can still have joy while feeling these things
• Sometimes we develop mindsets from a place of desiring perfection 
  • Be kind to yourself and others
  • Treat yourself and others well…because you’re both worth it
• Sometimes we develop mindsets because we don’t know any better
  • Study and read books by people with positive mindsets
  • Learn stories about people who have found joy after diversity
• Sometimes we develop mindsets from bad habits
  • Challenge all of your negative thoughts
    • Your negative thoughts are what develop stress and anxiety; your positive thoughts are what develops joy
      • Negative thoughts do not help you prepare; uncertain ones do
  • Train yourself to expect the good. Whether it happened or not, you stayed in a state of joy
• Sometimes we develop negative mindsets because it’s all we see
  • Visualize joy
    • You will start to see the world as open to your wildest dreams and a better life
    • You will get what you expect

The characteristics associated with a positive mindset:

• Optimism: a willingness to make an effort and take a chance instead of assuming your efforts won’t pay off.
• Acceptance: acknowledging that things don’t always turn out how you want them to, but learning from your mistakes.
• Resilience: bouncing back from adversity, disappointment, and failure instead of giving up.
• Gratitude: actively, continuously appreciating the good things in your life
• Consciousness/Mindfulness: dedicating the mind to conscious awareness and enhancing the ability to focus.
• Integrity: the trait of being honorable, righteous, and straightforward, instead of deceitful and self-serving

• You don’t have to believe in positivity; just believe in change
• They can only impact your life in two ways. Decide which one it will be.
• Things will always go wrong. Be open to the possibility of solutions more than the possibility of demise
• If you don’t focus on the “failure,” even when things go wrong, it does not affect your future. If you do focus on “failure,” even when things go right, you’re anticipating the next wrong thing.

Attitudes about self: What are you telling you about you?

• Reframing negative self-talk into constructive questions
  • What can I learn from this?
  • What could I have done differently?
  • How might this experience prove to benefit me

Do less of this: 

• Stop allowing others’ praise to make you feel good about you (the praise of others feels good, but your self-praise feels great)
• Stop measuring your self-worth based on achievements or goals (achievements and goals are not the only means through which we can measure our worth)
• Stop the self-sabotage (look for the ways you are sabotaging yourself)
• Don’t lie about who you are (be honest about who you are)
• Don’t accept other people’s bs opinions about you if you have no reason to value their judgment (this is an offshoot of the first bullet. Analyze why certain people’s judgements matter to you so greatly)
• Don’t believe you don’t belong (believe that you belong)
• Don’t be a yes man (learn when to say yes and when to say no)
• Don’t despair about what you can’t change (try not to wallow in what cannot be changed in your past)
