Please watch for some downtime on the AIE Website this weekend as we prepare to unveil the new look on Saturday, Februrary 28th. Each game in AIE will have their own landing page, with more information specifc to that game and AIE activities in it.

The Mistress of RP in WOW herself, Ironclawed (also known as Irontribe for her many, many alt) is our new Guildie of the Month. Iron is a steadfast cheerleader of AIE and the Noob Raid, and is always encouraging RP in both the forums and Thursday RP nights in game. New Legendary Follower, New Races at the Darkmoon Faire, New Character Models: Blood Elf, Twitter Integration, New Heirloom Collections Tab, Garrisons (UI Tweaks, Platinum Invasions Rewards, and NPC Daily quests which are different between garrisons, so visit your friend’s garrison to see more quests), Followers, and Outposts, Cosmetic Transformations and Toy Effects, better Flight Paths and improved Color Blind Support.

Accounts with an inactive subscription are now able to log in with the same restrictions that Starter Edition accounts have with the additional perk of being able to join guilds that characters on the account already are a member of.

In Patch 6.1, you’ll be able to trade up to ilvl 670 Ethereal Waist, Head, Wrist, Legs, Hands, Back, and Finger (ring) items using Apexis Crystals.

There are already lots of ways to get Apexis Crystals, and with the patch we’re introducing even more in the form of new Missions and purchasable Scouting Missives, which will be available for 200 Garrison Resources each. These Missives can be purchased in your Garrison and will unlock an additional Apexis Crystal daily quest.

(T)- Huge Congrats to Alachaas and Leontine on the birth of their level 1 human, Aria Rose. Daddy is a Tank, Mommy is a Hunter- word has it, sweet little Aria will be getting her account soon and will learn to heal so they can LFG as a family. Shadow Priest was mentioned, but we’ll see how that works out for them.

The ever lovely Nevermore held an in game Meet and Greet event yesterday, to celebrate Valentines day and the Love of AIE! It was a massive success, and an impromptu Warcraft Trivial Pursuit game broke out.

And today, to share the love of PVP, Sparrow and crew ran an assault on Ashran with a might, fury and humor seldom seen on the field of battle. This event ran from 2-6 server time, and feedback from twitter indicates that this was an event enjoyed by all!

(T) - In February 2007, Alea Iacta Est was formed by the creators and fans of several popular podcasts (a guy you may of heard of, Scott Johnston/Gerp -guy from The Instance and ELR, Randy/ Maui from the Instance, Veronica- Winema from Buzz out Loud, and Mahalo Daily, Len from Jawbone Radio, and the crew from WoW Addons.

AIE has gone through a few iterations- initially, the name of the guild was I Eat Babies, but that was quickly changed due to it not being family friendly- and Alea Iacta Est- Latin for “the Die has been Cast” was chosen as the new name. Before the start of Cataclysm, we were the largest guild in North America, though due to guild caps placed by Blizzard, we had to break into much smaller co-guilds. We are so large, we have 11 co-guilds, all bound together by the Greenwall created by our own robot and master planner, Stigg.

WatcherDev (Blizzard) explains Blackrock Foundry tuning -

Lead Game Designer Ion Hazzikostas took to the forums to better explain Blizzard’s philosophy on Blackrock Foundry’s difficulty tuning. If you’ve been raiding it this week, you probably noticed it’s a little harder to progress than Highmaul was at the beginning. According to Watcher, Blackrock Foundry is not meant to make Highmaul immediately obsolete. They still expect you to fully progress through Highmaul before you can realistically tackle Blackrock Foundry. Normal mode Highmaul had an expectation of players coming in with heroic dungeon gear, but Blackrock Foundry is tuned for players in full raid gear (including the first few “easy” bosses). Later bosses are tuned with even more player item level in mind

WoW Stable at 10+ Million Subscribers -

Blizzard had their Q4 2014 earning call recently and announcing that WoW was still at 10+ million subscribers at the end of 2014. This is the same as the mid November announcement that listed WoW at 10+ million subscribers.

Alludra -And, in case you haven’t noticed- Love is in the Air - right now through February 16th, WOW’s annual Valentine’s Day event is in full swing. The Love is in the Air event offers a variety of rewards, including two mounts, two pets, and many achievements (One of which is totally impossible unless you have REALLY cool friends). AIE Anniversary Events-

Tet- AIE’s official 8th anniversary is February 15, and plans are underway to celebrate the momentous occasion. Not only are we planning on having some huge guests for the show next Sunday, but the AIE officers and guildies are busy planning events for the celebration.

Nevermore has a meet and greet planned for Saturday 14, from noon to 2 server. Come celebrate AIE’s anniversary in mumble- learn more about the guild and your fellow guildies!

Sparrow is leading a PvP Event- the plan is to assault Ashran with a might, fury and humor seldom seen on the field of battle. A raid group will be started at 2pm server (other groups can be started as needed) and we will run the road, the events, and any rares that pop up in Ashran until 6pm server. Guildie of the Month- Arveshet AKA Arv from SWTOR

He's continually lead, maintained, and recently expanded the operations team he's been hosting for a year now and regularly helps any and all guildies with crafting, missions, general questions, etc. With the recent expansion he's done a bunch over the past couple weeks to help people get geared up and ready for the new operations. He hangs out in Mumble most nights ready to say hi, answer questions, or lend a hand. Let’s take a moment to congratulate Arv for all that he does for AIE. Blackrock Foundry opens on February 4th with Normal and Heroic difficulties available, plus at the same time, World boss Rukhmar becomes available in Spires of Arak. On February 10th, Mythic difficulty becomes available. Raid Finder opens for Wing One on the 17th and Wing Two on the 24th.

World of Warcraft recently sent out a surprise gift to users who have been subscribed to continually for 10 years- an amazing replica of the bronze Orc statue that stands in the courtyard at Blizzard HQ in Irvine. Didn’t receive one- don’t worry, neither did we- but lots of AIE guildies have.

In World of Warcraft, there are rumors that a Spring Craft Faire is in the works. Please keep an eye on the Professions forums (use the forums) for more details as it becomes available. Real Life Events AIE Went to

Nerdactular 2014- the annual gathering of Frogpants community happened in Utah in July. This is an amazing two day event- though, most of us got there early and stayed late. If you have never been to Nerdtacular, you need the make the trek- the 2015 event is scheduled for July 31 and August 1st.

DragonCon 2014- Labor Day weekend brought Dragoncon- and lots of AIE guildies were able to attend- including Nicole Spagnolo and Brian Ibbot that ran the podcast track

This is more of Frogpants in general news, but the dates for Nerdtacular have been announced- the evening of Thursday, July 30th for the reception, and Friday, July 31 and Saturday, August 1st for the official event. We are at the fabulous Snowbird Resort again- and the discount rate is nerd15. And if you have never been to Nerdtacular, you need to go- it is a great event celebrating the people at the heart of the Frogpants community and there is usually a Huge AIE contingency.

Want to do Molten Core, but can’t stand LFR with 39 random people? Rho is planning one last trip tonight a- Raid will begin forming up at 10:45pm Eastern, no sign up is necessary - keep your eye on AIELFR and Guild chat this evening! Happy Third Anniversary to AIE in SWTOR! And going on tonight at 9pm Eastern is the anniversary celebration! Max and the crew plan on a World Boss Hunt, holiday music, and there is a rumor of presents. The plan is to start out on the Imperial side and meet on the guild ship and then move to then move back and forth to the Repub side depending on interest.

SWTOR 2014 Life Day event is running from Dec 16 2014 to Jan 6, 2015, and there are many great rewards, mounts, and pets (where is Alludra when you need her). Snow-Covered Parcels are the main currency used in this event. You get them randomly by throwing the Life Day Snowball Bomb at other players with a 15% chance to receive parcels.

World of warcraft

Beefmaster: World of warcraft is kicking off the feast of winterveil on tuesday december 16th! That means decorations, gifts, and of course quests! Get in and join in on the fun until friday January 2nd!

Alludra: LFR Opened last tuesday to a somewhat underwhelming response. Turns out most heroics are harder then the first wing of LFR, which has left some people wondering what’s up with that? Personally I think that an LFR where inattentive people can’t mess it up for everyone is a great thing! We will see if the difficulty ramps up with the new wings opening.

SWTOR

Beef: The SWTOR expansion Shadow of Revan launched on December 9th! Remember this is a ton of new content, including 5 new levels, New storyline content, new worlds to explore and tons more fun that we have come to expect from the swtor group!

A: And while we are celebrating good things for SWTOR, December 10th marked the game’s 3 year anniversary! (Wow, has it really been that long?) Items have been discounted an you can get free decorations from now until January 12th, 2015! So don’t forget to log in and have some fun!

Final fantasy

B: Final fantasy has released the long awaited ‘marriage’ patch, which is suprisingly robust. While the game offers a free version of the wedding or bonding ceremonies, you can also pay real money to unlock new color options, wedding gifts for up to 80 guests, and more elaborate decorations. So if you want to go all out for your vertual wedding head on over to sign up and get the ball and chain rolling!

Greetings from the Summer of Steve sales! I mean the Steamy hottub of the Summer of Steve Winter sale!

Paypal Japan leaked that the sale will begin December 18th. 1pm EST!

Site was fairly bogged down for the first 30 minutes during the summer sale. but both the web and moblie apps should update and function.

Tips from Steve to sale correctly:

Historically there are sale items that are discounted “slightly” throughout the sale, daily sale items that are moderately discounted for 48 hours, flash sales that last 8 hours, and community “you must log in constantly and vote” sale items.

There are tricks to navigating the maze of sale options. Steve says “hold out for the flash sale items!” you have 48 hours to ponder the daily sales, and traditionally the final day of the sale you will see everything discounted from daily sales, re discounted.

Now to discuss the gimmick! Steam will offer the chance to earn a Winter sale badge. You will earn trading cards from voting in the community sales, buying games, etc. You typically need to match 10 specific cards to earn the badge. and the badge will gift you with emoji, profile backgrounds, and various ohhh and ahh items.

You can also trade duplicate cards with friends or buy them on the Steam Marketplace. Cards typically sell for .15-.25 cents after the initial rush. Pro tip from Steve. if you want to just buy them, add a balance NOW!. Steam will hold the funds for a few days before you can use them. IE dont wait till the end of the sale! Also use the AIE group trading forum post and your friends list

You probably know that AIE was founded by people who have a great love of podcasts, but you may not realize just how many podcasts our AIE members listen to. If you’re looking to find more podcasts, or if you want to share your favorite podcasts with the rest of AIE, check out AIE community member Lane’s “Other Podcasts You Listen To” post in the forums. It is full of great ways to make your ears happy.

Just a reminder for some of our newer members who may not be used to how AIE handles chat. Our guild chat is not like most guilds. We aim to keep chat family-friendly, and not let it become an annoyance that distracts from the game, and with up to several hundred people in chat at the same time, that means we have to limit how it is used.

To quote the AIE policy on guild communications...

Any formatting of messages to draw attention over other messages in chat is prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to:

all capitals for words other than acronyms,

character substitution (i.e., "1337sp34|<"), (“leetspeak”)

repetition of messages.

Members may not use macros or add-ons to generate messages in chat channels. Macros may only be employed by officers for administrative purposes.

Members engaging in topics or styles of discussion that are disruptive, immature, or better suited for alternate venues will be asked to take their discussions to private channels. Officers will not debate this in chat or whisper.

These rules cover all open chat channels, whether it’s guild chat or any of the common rooms in Mumble. Private chat channels, like ones you might create in game or any of the channels marked Do Not Disturb (DND) in Mumble, do allow some amount of adult conversation - as long as every member of the channel agrees, so make sure you know your audience, and don’t drop into a DND channel uninvited. This topic pops up in the forums every few months, and the best way to respond is to send people to the guild policy, which is in the guild wiki. Looking to Raid in Warlords, the team recruitment section of the forums has been busy! Many new and returning raid groups are looking for members. Take a look, sign up and get ready to show the Iron Horde who is the boss.

Thanksgiving has passed, but there is no better time to thank a guildie!! There is great thread on the forums started by the Mistress of RP Irontamed a while back, thanking members of AIE for doing what we do best- being super helpful and wonderful. Want to do more- we are always taking nominations for Guildie of the Month- please email [email protected] if you want to nominate that special member of AIE that has gone above and beyond!

Just a reminder, the darkmoon faire is up and running! Rep and XP boosts abound as well as a chance at free points for your professions. Take advantage from now until the 14th!

Also, don’t forget that world of warcraft’s 10th birthday event is still going on from now until January 5th. Level 100’s get the dubious privilege of running molten core for not only an epic helm and corehound mount, but also a chance at the great mini hatespark pet and a cosmetic enchant. The last two are, sadly not a guaranteed drop. yay...
