  • E26: One Drop CEO and Founder Jeff Dachis inspires and empowers people with diabetes to live their best lives through his mobile computing device and data science system.

You are going to be so inspired by today's conversation with Jeff Dachis.

Jeff is the CEO and Founder of One Drop, a simple, powerful and convenient mobile platform for managing diabetes and chronic health conditions, which was born from his own experience. His desire to bring the quantified self movement, internet of things, big data and mobile computing to people with diabetes in a simple, fully integrated solution led him to create the One Drop platform - which won "Best Design" at the LAUNCH 2015 Festival, and has received a Good Design award, the oldest and the most prestigious Global Awards Program for Design Excellence and Design Innovation.

Jeff is a digital visionary and a serial entrepreneur. Considered one of the early pioneers in the development of the World Wide Web, Jeff was involved in the creation of the first banner ad, the creation of the first web animation, and has digital work exhibited as part of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art's permanent collection.

Jeff is also the Co-Founder, former CEO and Chairman of Razorfish (acquired by Publicis), the world's largest digital marketing solutions firm, and a company he bootstrapped from his East Village apartment and led it through its successful $55MM IPO. Now 25 years later, the Company is over 20,000 employees in 100 cities on 5 continents and generates $2 billion in annual sales.

Jeff is a Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year winner (NYC 2001) and finalist (Austin 2012); he is also the 2016 recipient of NYU Steinhardt's Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award.

In today's conversation we hear about Jeff's personal journey with type 1 diabetes and how that led him to dream-up and create the company One Drop. We learn how the One Drop app and the glucose meter work together to empower people to engage in self-care and manage their diabetes. One Drop's gorgeous device is so cool looking it makes customers feel like a "Diabadass." All the products and services they offer are directed to help those with both type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

Jeff shares with us everything you need to know about the subscription packages, including how affordable and useful the glucose monitor and related information is to help improve the customer's quality of life.

We also discuss today's state of healthcare and the worldwide diabetes problem.

One Drop offers so much support including access to 24/7, 365 days per year health coaching and accountability when you subscribe. They also ship your test strips right to your door.

One Drop is also offering their services direct to employers and they have rolled out coaching programs for treating hypertension, high cholesterol, weight-loss and prediabetes, in addition to type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

We wrap up our conversation talking about the healthcare industry as a whole and then finally on mindset and Jeff's incredibly positive attitude that has really paved the way for where he is today.

  • E25: Learn How to Listen to Your Intrinsic Knowledge and Truth and Live in Balance with Anna Needham of Tao Natural Foods

You are going to be so inspired by today's conversation with Anna Needham from Tao Natural Foods, who shares with us the art of living in balance with nature through food and holistic healing modalities.

Anna is the co-owner of Tao Natural Foods organic cafe and their natural wellness shop, Tao Herbery, which has been around since 1968. She is an acupuncturist and a mother of three. Her niche is providing resources for our community so they may achieve their health goals naturally and in harmony with nature. She believes that what we eat dramatically influences both the health of our body and the health of our planet. She understands that a state of imbalance may be brought back to a state of balance through cleansing toxins, eating organically grown (non toxic) foods and consuming herbal medicines to deliver needed nutrients; health achieved while in harmony with nature; this is her motto and one that is engrained in the community she's created at Tao.

Anna shares insight into Chinese medicine and how our body needs to work in balance to heal itself.

A few things Anna mentions that you can do to boost your immunity.

-Pay attention, trust and listen to your body and what it's telling you. Slow down and nourish your body at the first sign of a headache or other flu like symptoms. Anna mentioned this wonderful herbal flu remedy: Oscillococcinum

-Cook/eat onions, garlic, shallots and ginger.

-Cook with lots of fresh herbs (basil, cilantro, oregano). Try making your own bone broth with an organic chicken and herbs.

-Choose organic foods, free of chemicals and pesticides.

-Drink herbal teas (dandelion root is good for detoxification, which is important in the spring).

Books Anna mentions: The Herbal Kitchen , A Kids Herb Book

Anna shares Tao's exciting news that they are looking to expand into a larger space so that they can offer more services, including a natural clinic to treat patients 100% naturally.

  • Bonus: What's New and Good During "Life in the Time of Corona"

We're joining you today with another bonus episode during the Covid 19 pandemic and stay-at-home to share what's new and good in our lives with the hope of inspiring you to add a bit of cheer during these challenging times.

We chat about the books, movies, games and foods that we've been enjoying, including those activities we're doing with our families. We also discuss the benefits of having a #coronabirthday.

One of the silver linings for our podcast business is that we've had time to finish a few products that were in the works. We are excited to launch two different recipe books, which is perfect for this current stay -at-home environment. The first is a plant-based ebook, which will help you incorporate more plants into your diet through simple and delicious recipes. We've also created a family friendly recipe book, that contains recipes for both adults and kids.

And finally, we both love our new AOLW water bottle (for hot and cold beverages), which we are both using every day. Head on over to https://www.theartoflivingwell.us/products to purchase these products and help support our weekly podcast work where we are delivering inspiring and motivating content.

We'd love to hear how this episode has inspired you to incorporate something good into your life during Corona. Jump on over to IG and share what movies, books or other activities you've been doing during in your stories and tag #theartoflivingwellpodcast.

  • E24: Celebrating Earth Day With Simple Tips To Improve the Health of Our Planet

Let's Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day!

We are both so excited to celebrate Earth Day and today's episode will inspire you to make small and easy changes in your day-to-day life to help improve the health of our planet.

Please excuse our incorrect mention of Northern Italy in relation to viewing the Himalayan mountains. One silver lining from the stay at home/Coronavirus pandemic is that residents of Northern India are able to see these mountains for the first time in decades (not Northern Italy).

Below are a few tips that we share, which you can start doing today to help leave the earth a better place for future generations, but don't forget to tune into the entire episode for all of our suggestions.

-Ditch the plastic and purchase a reusable water bottle. Check out our new stainless steel water bottle, which can be used for hot and cold beverages at www.theartoflivingwell.us/products .

-Swap out your plastic food storage containers for glass ones. Reuse glass jars that you purchase for sauces, pickles, condiments etc.

-Turn off water when you're brushing your teeth and be mindful of how much water you're using when you wash dishes etc.

-Bike or walk instead of driving, if possible.

-Turn off the lights when you're not in the room.

We'd love to hear how this episode has inspired you to make small changes to leave the world a better place for future generations. Jump on over to IG and share in your stories and tag #theartoflivingwellpodcast.

  • Bonus Episode: Managing Anxiety in our current Coronavirus Pandemic with Psychotherapist Kirsten Rewey

We are coming on today as a bonus episode to address our mental health in this crazy and stressful time. Is there anyone out there not feeling anxious right now? Most of us have not lived through scarcity or a government mandated lockdown in our lifetimes.

In today's episode we speak to Kirsten Rewey, a psychotherapist who works with a diverse clientele. She is passionate about working with adults who struggle with relationship concerns, anxiety or depression, and also enjoys assisting teens and families in crisis. She has provided mental health services within family programs through Hennepin County, as well as in K-12 educational settings. Kirsten is also experienced in play and art therapy for children and uses a range of narrative, cognitive behavioral and mindfulness approaches. She offers a collaborative, welcoming therapeutic environment in which clients feel safe to tell their story.

Kirsten graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Social Work, and has more than 15 years of professional experience. A mother of three, she understands the multitude of challenges facing working moms and is passionate about helping her clients get to the next level.

We dive deep into a discussion about mental health and specifically anxiety, which is on the rise across the globe given our current world health crisis. Kirsten shares how we can use anxiety as a tool and a guide and not something to ignore or fear. We discuss the ways that we are managing and taking care of ourselves and our loved ones, since this is what we have control over. She shares narratives from her clients and what she's seeing in the community and within her own family, which provide all of us solace in knowing that we are not alone.

We dive into how parents can navigate these unchartered times with their kids and family as well as the importance to not pass judgement on others. We all must remember that everyone is doing the best we can with what they've got. Kirsten shares how having open and honest communication with family, friends and others during these times will help reduce everyone's stress and anxiety. And let's not forget that reducing stress will promote an increase in our overall wellness and our immune system.

  • E20: How Jake and Rachel Beaudry's health journey shifts their mindset and motivation and leads them to create Rawr Organics

Today's guests are the founders of Rawr Organic Bars, Jake and Rachel Beaudry. They are an amazing husband and wife team who left their finance careers a couple of years ago to pursue their passion of creating a clean protein bar while making a global impact and giving back to those in need. Both Jake and Rachel were involved in the fitness world, which you'll hear more about in today's conversation, but couldn't find a protein bar that fit their needs so they started making their own in their kitchen. They never had any intent of bringing it to market.

After working in rural Mozambique for three months in late 2018, Jake & Rachel headed back home to MN where they went into full-time development to launch Rawr Bar that June.

Stephanie was fortunate enough to meet Jake & Rachel at her local farmers' market in Minneapolis (@lindenhillsfarmmarket) in the summer of 2018 and instantly became a fan of their dark chocolate + almond butter protein bar. Jack and Rachel are so passionate about using clean ingredients that are free of gluten, dairy, soy and refined sugar as well as a strong desire to give back and help feed starving children around the world.

The Rawr Organics bar is protein packed and made with high quality, organic ingredients designed to fuel your body with nutrient dense real food and fuel your bold pursuit in life.

We are so excited for you to be inspired by this conversation today. Jake and Rachel each share their unique health and wellness journeys, which has lead them on their path to where they are today.

You will hear about leaving their corporate jobs and all of the amazing charitable work that they do.

Rawr is offering a special discount for all of our listeners to try their delicious organic plant-based protein bars. Simply use code RealFood10 for 10% off an online order at checkout.
