It's three college football rants from Doug Lesmerises on The Bill and Doug Show. First, Doug looks at how many times the four SEC teams that have fired their coaches -- Florida, LSU, Auburn and Arkansas -- have almost beaten one of the nine currently ranked SEC teams. It's a lot -- and that's not a good thing for the SEC. Then it's a look at the quarterback development failures at Penn State, Nebraska and Michigan State this season and how that has affected the Big Ten. Finally, D.J. Durkin was named the interim coach at Auburn ... which would only happen in the SEC. Thanks for joining The Bill and Doug Show.

Will Minnesota bounce back from an embarrassing loss? Will Nebraska coach Matt Rhule get his first win over a ranked team since he was coaching at Temple, as Lincoln Riley brings USC to Lincoln on Saturday night? And when two four-game losing streaks collide on Friday, what will give between Syracuse and North Carolina? Is it time for Bill Belichick's first ACC win?

Ohio State hosts Penn State on Saturday, which means Nittany Lions' defensive coordinator Jim Knowles is returning to Ohio Stadium. Knowles was the OSU defensive coordinator the last three seasons, and now he'll be going against the offense he faced in practice so much. On this episode of The Bill and Doug Show, the guys talks about the relationship between Knowles and the Buckeyes, and how OSU coach Ryan Day talked about that relationship on Tuesday. (There was a little nugget in there.) They also discuss how the Penn State defense under Knowles has fared compared to the Ohio State defenses of the last three seasons. Five Ohio State football topics are on the board for Around the Shoe, which comes to you every Monday on The Bill and Doug Show. As the Buckeyes prepare to play Penn State, who is the Buckeyes' biggest rival outside of Michigan?
If Julian Sayin hadn't transferred to Ohio State from Alabama after Nick Saban's retirement, who would be the Buckeyes' quarterback this season? If any issue trips up Ohio State this season, what might it be? Offensive line? Red zone? Special teams?
And then, how different is it covering Ohio State compared to other college football teams, and what are your memories of your first days on the OSU beat? As always, two great guests join the show from the Ohio State media crew.
This week, it's Joey Kaufman of The Columbus Dispatch and Stefan Krijisnik of cleveland.com. Thanks for joining us on The Bill and Doug Show, and for more OSU coverage, check out Substack at billanddougosu.substack.com
