Michigan got off to a good start in Week 1 with a 47-14 win over Western Michigan. However, UM’s Week 2 opponent fell flat to open their year. The Washington Huskies were upset by Montana 13-7.

The Huskies were ranked No. 20 heading into Week 1, but offensive line issues plagued them in their loss to the Grizzlies. Washington’s defense held their own until the final minutes, but there are a lot of question marks and injuries on the offensive side of the ball heading into their tilt vs. Michigan.

To sort it all out we caught up with Dave Mahler from 950 KJR in Seattle to get the scoop on Washington.

The Michigan Wolverines are going to be without Ronnie Bell for the foreseeable future, as the senior wide receiver is out for the year with a knee injury that will require surgery. Anthony Broome and Luke Ghiardi discuss how Michigan will work to offset this and their options moving forward, as well as discuss how expectations for the Wolverines have changed. Saturday looks like a must-win after Washington lost a game to FCS Montana.

The Michigan Wolverines came out in the 2021 football season opener and did exactly what you should against a MAC opponent, even if Western Michigan is expected to be competitive in its conference. Anthony Broome reviews the win, which had a number of storylines despite it being a laugher.

Positives addressed include the rushing attack's quick start to the season, an efficient display from the quarterback position and adjustments (!!!) made on the defensive side of the ball. From a negative standpoint, Ronnie Bell's injury looms large, and there's still a major question about Josh Gattis. Will Michigan learn a critical lesson from last year?

On this week’s Future Brew podcast, Von and Stephen discuss the latest defensive tackle offer in the 2022 class — three-star Mason Graham. The West Coast defender is planning an official visit to Ann Arbor sometime this fall, even though he is committed to Boise State. Will the Wolverines be able to flip his recruitment? And how concerning is it that the Wolverines continue to offer project-type prospects at the defensive tackle position?

After that, the boys talk about new visitors reportedly added to the list for the Washington game on Sept. 11 — five-star cornerback Domani Jackson and in-state four-star defensive back Dillon Tatum. With Jackson locked in to USC and crystal balls rolling in for Michigan State for Tatum, who does Michigan have the best shot of landing at this point?

Lastly, the discussion turns to the 2023 class. Five-star in-state quarterback Dante Moore had an incredible start to his junior campaign, throwing for more than 400 yards and tossing four touchdown passes for Martin Luther King High School in Detroit. He is among the top targets at any position for the Wolverines in this class, and this performance showed why he is so important. The Wolverines have been recruiting him for three years now, so it’s vital their efforts eventually pay off.
