In this week’s episode, I was going to be joined by David, a Senior Vice President of a boutique investment bank but I’m afraid you’re going to have to wait another week for that! But instead, I have another amazing guest all about the world of electrical engineering. I’m joined by Nathan who is an electrical systems engineer at Caterpillar. He’s responsible for helping to develop the Genset engine 4000 which is about the size of a shipping container for electrical power generators which are often used as backup generators for hospitals, or even to power small towns in the Amazon. We touch on what his role looks like on a daily basis as well as the key skills required for the role. And it’s worth knowing that there are almost 5.7 million people who work in engineering in the UK, which accounts for just over 19% of all UK employment yet to meet projected demand, the number of engineering apprentices and graduates will need to double. So it’s definitely an area worth exploring if you’re interested in understanding how things work, building things as well as taking things apart!
