A man cutting turf on a remote bog outside Dublin city couldn’t believe his eyes when he discovered the body of woman buried in the peat. He had just answered the question that the Doherty family had been asking themselves for the better half of a year “Where is our mother and wife?”. 29-year-old Patricia Doherty disappeared on the 23rd of December 1991 when she left her house after 9pm to go and buy her children Santa hats.

Ciaran takes us through the facts of the case as we know them today.

July 1987 and the signs were there that Ireland was a changing place. Irish cyclist Stephen Roche was well on his way to winning the Tour de France and David Bowie, “The Thin White Duke" himself was paying us a visit by hosting a concert at Slane Castle on banks of the River Boyne. In the crowd at the concert was 27-year-old mother of two Antoinette Smith. She would not be seen again until April 1988 when a family discovered her body on a desolate patch of ground in the Dublin Mountains.

Ciaran is joined by regular series contributor Shayne Phelan to discuss this unsolved case that has spanned four decades.

When Deirdre Jacob set off from her parents house on the 28th July 1998 to run a few errands in her hometown of Newbridge, she had her whole life ahead of her. She was getting ready to return to her second year of studies to become a teacher in Twickenham. So, what happened? Deirdre was last seen just a few yards from the gate of her family home. She has not been seen of heard of since.

On the 23rd August 1996, the busy midlands town of Tullamore found itself at the centre of mystery that continues to this very day. Local girl Fiona Pender disappeared from the flat that she shared with her boyfriend. Her disappearance is highly unusual because at the time she went missing she was 7 months pregnant with her first child and busy preparing for its arrival. Nobody has seen or heard from Fiona Pender since, but this case continues to have unexpected twists and turns.
