Ireland's Vanishing Triangle Part One Episode One

Welcome to the first episode in our series on Ireland's Vanishing Triangle with your host Ciaran McConnell.

The perishable goods in the plastic bag which had been left on a table in a Sandymount apartment, was a clear indicator that something was wrong. Where was 27-year-old American woman Annie McCarrick? For the last 3 decades there have been many leads but unfortunately no success in the search to find out what happened to Annie.

In the first half of this episode Ciaran is joined by regular series contributor Shayne Phelan were they discuss the facts of the case.

In the second half of the episode F.B.I Investigator Kenneth Strange discusses the case with Ciaran. Kenneth has a personal connection with the case. Kenneth Knew Annie who was a friend of his little sister. Kenneth has become involved in the search for Annie at the behest of Nancy McCarrick, Annie’s mother.

Welcome to our two part series on Ireland's Vanishing Triangle. Part one of the series will cover eight unsolved murder and missing person cases between the years of 1993 and 1998. In six of these eight tragic cases there is a suspect that was known to the victim and they have either been arrested or questioned by Gardi at some point. And in the two remaining cases suspects have been arrested or questioned by Gardi, but these suspects were not previously known to the victim.

Part Two of the series on Ireland's Vanishing Triangle will cover four cases from South Dublin, between the years of 1987 and 2004. In two of these cases the victim's body has been found and in the remaining two cases the victim is still missing. There is no known suspects in these four cases nor have any arrests been made by Gardi, there is no reports concerning persons of interest that were known to the victims and the reason for the victims murders and disappearances remain a mystery.

Philip Cairns was a good kid. He was the son, brother, grand child and friend you would want to have. So, when on Friday the 23rd of October ,1986 when 13 year old Philip, disappeared on his way back to school after his lunch time break, nobody could understand what had happened to Philip. Nearly 40 years on and Ireland still asks that question “Where is Philip Cairns?”.

Joining Ciaran on the podcast is series regular Shayne Phelan. Shayne was the same age as Philip when he disappeared in 1986 and provides some interesting insights to young teenage boys in 1980’s Ireland.

Later in the episode Shayne talks to a source by the name of “Tom” who knew a person of interest in this case.

Through the v in a wall, on a lonely short cut between two Scottish housing estates lay the body of Jodi Jones, whose final moments on this earth were the most terrifying in all her 14 years on this planet. She had arranged to meet her boyfriend Luke Mitchell the evening she was murdered. Mitchell was arrested and subsequently was tried and found guilty of the murder in January 2005, and the safety of this conviction has been questioned ever since.

What happened to Tanya Lee Glover? Nobody knew where she had gone or in certain cases that she was even missing until 2022 when her mummified body was found behind wall in a north Brisbane unit block. She had been missing since 2009.

Ciaran is joined by Anna Houlihan the national crime reporter for Australian community media. Anna has been covering the case in depth since Tanya’s remain were identified in 2023. You will also hear from regular series contributor Shayne Phelan on the case.
