Tony Kiritsis has already taken a hostage. Now, incredibly, he's allowed to leave the scene.
With Richard Hall still attached to the Dead Man's Wire, Kiritsis relocates to his apartment, claims it has been rigged with explosives, and turns a hostage crisis into a 63-hour national spectacle. As police struggle to contain the situation, negotiators search for leverage, reporters become part of the story, and authorities make concessions that would be nearly unthinkable today.
In a desperate attempt to keep the hostage alive, police turn to Indianapolis radio personality Fred Heckman as an intermediary. But the final demand may be the most shocking of all: a live press conference with a shotgun pointed at a hostage's head.
The nation watches. The hostage taker has a microphone. And everyone wonders whether they're about to witness a murder on live television.
