Shame is a very powerful emotion. It is a feeling of being flawed, of not feeling worthy, a feeling of contempt. In this episode Jamie and Guy welcome guest Mara Vernon, CPCC, PCC, CDTLF, to the Davenport to discuss shame and why it is so, so powerful. They discuss shame's relationship to guilt, embarrassment and humiliation. They discuss how we use "Shame Shields" (as taught by Brené Brown) as a way to disconnect or protect ourselves from shame. Most importantly, they provide ways we can manage shame by moving from shame to guilt, using breathing and physical exercises to help us recover, and by practicing empathy, both for ourselves and for others.
