Comedian Andrea Rappaport knows what it's like going through life's biggest jokes — a love story turned toxic relationship and signing divorce plans that went wrong.

In this episode, the How Not to Suck at Divorce podcast host shares her journey going through the process with her two young boys making many painful mistakes and shedding light on how you can avoid them.

▶️ What To Do And Not To Do After Divorce with Andrea Rappaport

✔️ One of the biggest mistakes people make post-divorce is to stop going to therapy because they think it's over.

Andrea pleads those going through a rough patch never stop getting professional support pre and post-divorce. "One of the biggest things I recommend is keeping your butt in a therapist's chair. Keep talking. I have a personal therapist. I have a therapist who helps me with my children, who helps me navigate my kids' needs based on what they went through and all that stuff. And I have a therapist for my current relationship because I want to make sure that I'm not repeating behavior and traits that I picked up in past relationships."

✔️ A parenting agreement is a tough document to change.

Never miss out on having a professional help you through that step. Andrea says, "It's easy to make mistakes, especially if you are in a high-conflict divorce or where there's abuse of different types going on. There's a myriad of reasons why these mistakes get made in a parenting agreement. What are your child's needs at that point, and what is the best scenario for your kid? It is not an agreement for the parents. It's an agreement for the child, and I can't stress that enough."

✔️ Taking advice from friends and family can keep us stuck.

They try to take you out of your emotion because they're uncomfortable being in it with you. If you choose to do things independently, you will waste more time, even if you feel you are strong enough. Experts come in to guide you through the process and provide actionable steps that will get you back on your feet faster.

✔️ We will do things in our divorce that will hurt the kids and ourselves.

Yet, we must do it to make peace and end the chronic conflict. We teach our kids to make similar choices by not settling for less and support them well to become more empathetic and resilient adults.

My journey of self-discovery was a process where I was able to truly understand who I was based on my experiences.

This meant letting go of comparison, intentionally living a meaningful and happier life, and choosing self-forgiveness.

These three things sealed my success in healing and ultimately, opened up my life to new possibilities. Only when I made that empowered choice to go through the journey that things started to change for me.

Tune in to this episode on My Journey of Self-Discovery After Divorce

Key points covered in this episode:

✔️ Mistakes aren't a bad thing. It's part of being human. But owning your mistakes and doing things differently moving forward is what matters.

✔️ Stop self-loathing. Don't feed the guilt. It's important to be able to face your flaws and admit them. This creates less resistance and more ease into flowing into that healed state that you want to be in.

✔️ Make amends with yourself, and take small steps to change. You did what was best for you during those difficult moments. Now, it's time to take action. Have someone who can help you develop new coping mechanisms to avoid falling into old habits.

✔️ Forgiveness is the most freeing thing you can give to yourself. As you work on not doing the same mistakes again, empower yourself to make choices that feel good to YOU. That's when abundance will start flowing into your life.

  • Mindset Tips about Time to Create Abundance

Abundance isn't just about money – it can also be applied to time.

I'm inviting you to surrender all your limiting beliefs and remember: What you think, you create. Step out of your comfort zone and embrace your power. You have the ability to shape the life you so badly desire once you apply these actionable tips to shift your mindset.

Tune in to this episode on Mindset Tips about Time to Create Abundance

Key points covered in this episode:

✔️ When creating abundance, time doesn't exist.

It has to do more with who you are being and what you're thinking. These factors are what will transform your reality.

✔️ What is meant to be will come.

Co-creating with the universe means our desires manifest in ways we don't expect. Let go of control. Stop thinking of immediate results. Allow the universe to deal with the "How". Pay close attention to the signs.

    ✔️ Set your intentions.

As you go about your day, have a purpose for everything you're doing. For example, I intend to inspire and motivate you with my work. And it has reflected in the abundant life I have today.

✔️ Regularly check in with your higher power.

Ensure that you're aligned with the life you wish to create. Make use of the tools and resources to get you back in that aligned state when you feel like you've fallen out.

  • How to Stop Resenting Your Ex

Divorce is painful. And unknowingly, this pain we feel stirs up anger inside of us that is so difficult to let go of.

I'm here to tell you that holding on to this resentment won't change your circumstances nor will it make you feel any better.

Let me share with you three ways you can finally release these emotions and open yourself up to a new life of joy.

Tune in to this episode: How to Stop Resenting Your Ex

Key points covered in this episode:

    ✔️ Acknowledge your emotions.

Step out of the victim mindset, own what happened and how you feel, and name that feeling. Being aware of its existence helps you move forward in dealing with it.

    ✔️ Express your anger.

You can do it in a healthy way, such as writing a letter or talking aloud in the car – as long as nobody hears you. What's most important is releasing it.

    ✔️ Heal yourself.

Recovering from emotional hurt is no different from a physical injury. Nurture yourself, give yourself compassion, and pick up the lessons you need to move forward.

  • How to Navigate Complex Financial Issues and Find Empowerment Through Your Finances with Lisa Zeiderman

Do you want to know what your deepest divorce Super Power is? Of course you do! Take my brand new quiz and discover more about yourself and the super power you possess that will take you through divorce into your dream life. https://thedivorcerehab.com/quiz-start-site-podcast

For a woman from a household with two incomes or a wife relying on their former spouse as the breadwinner — going through a divorce can be downright horrifying. What happens when you think you are left with "nothing"?

Join me in this powerful episode with Certified Divorce Financial Analyst, Lisa Zeiderman, who shares valuable nuggets to help you address your finances with less stress.

▶️ How to Navigate Complex Financial Issues and Find Empowerment Through Your Finances with Lisa Zeiderman.

✔️ As a matrimonial attorney, CFL, and a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst, Lisa Zeiderman shares her inspiring origin story of helping women and families go through a divorce. After getting into the fashion business at 18, she survived a divorce and custody case. "What most people find frustrating is a lack of responsiveness. I experienced the same with my attorneys. The client needs to feel we have their back. I decided then that I could be helpful to people. And so that's why I ended up going to law school."

✔️ There's so much emotion tied to divorce when divorce is a business transaction, yet we bring that emotional piece into it, especially regarding our finances. Lisa shares that women need to be reassured that they can go through the process less stressed. In consultations, two main issues must be addressed: custody of the children and finances.

✔️ Achieving a less complicated divorce process and a rewarding future requires setting reasonable expectations as early as possible. Divorce is hard, but you must be kinder to yourself and allow others to come in and give you the strong support you need.

✔️ No matter what the situation, divorce disputes are resolvable. People have to realize that it is a marathon and not a sprint. Lisa establishes that the lack of understanding makes divorce scary and way more stressful for many women. Her essential piece of advice: don't let that fear control YOU. Resources and services are available to help you start separating the emotion from the financial element of divorce.

✔️ Do not do divorce by yourself. You want reliable and credible people in your corner, explaining the law, the finances, and the psychological aspects of the divorce process. It would be best if you had a passionate and empathetic team who has your best intentions in their mind. Are you clamming up pursuing your legal separation, or are you ready to open the door for better resolution and positive outcomes?

Let us come to your rescue and make this divorce your life's most significant gift.

Positive thinking has the power to transform your life, no matter what your current circumstances are.

Quantum physics tells us that we are all made up of energy. And energy carries a certain frequency or vibration. The more positive frequency we give off, the more we attract it.

This means that you have the power to control what happens in your life. You get to manifest positivity into your reality, even if you're going through a divorce.

Tune in to this episode on Power of Positivity in Creating Abundance after Divorce.

Key points covered in this episode:

✔️ Apply positive thinking in your life.

You can do this through visualization and gratitude. Be mindful of your thoughts and spin negative ones into ideas that serve you.

✔️ Positive thinking impacts your health and well-being.

It encourages us to take care of ourselves more, cope with stress better, and prevent ourselves from falling into a state of depression.

✔️ Drink from the half-full glass.

Instead of dwelling on the things frustrating you, focus on the good things you have now and what you can change.

    ✔️ Positive thinking builds resilience.

You know bad things just happen. And it's not the universe that's out to get you. You're able to make the most of what's happening in the present.

✔️ You can always start over.

Positivity allows you to wipe the slate clean, learn from your mistakes, and create something new.
