Psychoanalysis was developed by a neurotic ego and designed to enable other neurotic egos to function more productively despite their inherent internal conflicts. But psychosis was another matter. It is a condition that could not be fully theorized or manipulated by psychoanalytic technique, and so the bizarre mode of suffering of a psychotic person was repressed to justify its limited focus and non-existent success rate.
