Episode 3: How to Initiate the Discussion of Obesity with Patients: Sandra Christensen
In this episode of the Gaining Health Podcast, Karli Burridge speaks with her mentor, friend, and colleague, Sandra (Sam) Christensen about the importance of mentorship, obesity and women’s health, how to initiate the discussion of obesity with patients, and Sandra’s own personal battle with cancer that led her to the field of obesity medicine.
Sam is Family Nurse Practitioner, who has been specializing in obesity medicine since 2005, and who won the Clinician of the Year award from the Obesity Medicine Association shortly after this interview was recorded (CONGRATS, Sam!!).
In 2009, Sam founded Integrative Medical Weight Management in Seattle, Washington with the goal of providing comprehensive evidence-based treatment in a healing, inspiring setting. She has been an active member of the Obesity Medicine Association (OMA) since 2005 and currently serve as a Trustee on the OMA Board of Trustees. She was named a fellow of OMA (FOMA) in 2016 for her dedication and commitment to the clinical treatment of obesity and obesity-related diseases, has won numerous awards for her work in obesity medicine, and published a book in 2021 titled A Clinician’s Guide to Discussing Obesity with Patients.
