In today’s episode I talk about the daily grind, the word grind has multiple meanings the two that I talk about are, one, to wear down and two, to smooth, sharp, or polish by means of abrasion. We are completely in control of which meaning we take to heart when it comes to grind, good or bad. When you feel yourself in the daily grind, and it is wearing you down, you know it’s time to take a break or a vacation, leave early, go to lunch, or learn something new. Do not let the grind wear you down, it should be sharpening your skills.

Some key things to work on in the slow season, so that you’re not working on them in the busy season is: marketing, team training, and maintenance.
In today’s episode I talk about being debt free, reducing debt and running a debt free business. I have been in debt; and I have leveraged millions of dollars in the past. I talk about the number one reason most businesses fail is from debt problems. If you’re going to run a debt free business, you need to know the true cost of delivering your product. Be very clear where your money is going. Develop and use an operating budget as a decision-making tool. Always know your financial condition and situation. Consistency measure revenue, gross profit, and cash, I get those numbers every day because it’s that important to me. I sleep better at night because I have money in the bank, I have created my own line of credit, and even pay myself interest.
In today’s episode I talk about being debt free, reducing debt and running a debt free business. I started my company with no debt, in 2011 my company became 100% debt free, I have since leveraged debt and bank financing for certain things, but they were short term, I always strive to not carry debt. One of the best business books I have read on the topic is Business By The Book, Biblical principles for the workplace. I have leverage millions of dollars in the past to hit goals, but I have paid my debt very quickly. If I could give you a book that is guaranteed to give you a successful life and business, would you read it? It’s the Bible.
In today’s episode I talk about having company meetings, it is important to not have a company meeting just for meetings sake. Always make sure that your meetings have purpose. At McAfee not only do we have entire company meetings, but we have, department meetings, leadership team meetings, and ever a quarterly Saturday morning meeting. Something that has always been important to me is opening our meetings with prayer. It is also important to have an outline or an agenda, not only for your people to know what the meeting is about, but to remain on task.
In today’s episode I talk about my trip to Las Vegas, and meeting with Ken Goodrich, CEO of Goettl Air Conditioning. Kens company does around 170 million dollars a year as an HVAC company. I also talk about if you want to be able to grow and learn, you need to be able to take criticism. Set specific goals, write them down. Business is founded upon taking care of people, so make sure that is always your priority. As a business owner you need to be reading into the numbers. You do not need to know all your business’s numbers, but you need to know certain ones. One of my last takeaways is learning how to delegate to tasks.
In today’s episode I talk about the 5 ways to maintain a positive company culture. Most business owners still need to identify what their company culture is. As a business owner you are responsible for your company’s culture. It’s also important to hire people who fit your culture. Encourage your team to get to know each other by doing small things that allow for them to learn about each other. At my company I am constantly promoting the sharing of ideas ideas. Figure out what your culture is, and drive it home hard.
