This week on the podcast I’m talking to script editor, published author and blogger Lucy V. Hay. Lucy has been the script editor and advisor on numerous UK features and shorts and has also been a script reader for over 20 years. She’s had several books published and regularly runs courses and workshops on screenwriting.

This is a really good one if you want to be a screenwriter or improve you screenwriting/ Lucy gives me some great tips on plot, story structure, characters and dialog as well as tips for starting out in the industry.

This week I’m talking to concept artist and entertainment illustrator John Gallagher AKA Uncannyknack.

John worked as Director of Concept Art at video game developer BioWare, He’s worked as a production illustrator on The Expanse, Once upon a time, The Flash, Super Girl, The Boys and many more. 

I asked John about his route into the industry, what it takes to be a concept artist and illustrator on features and TV productions and what challenges AI might present in the future to artists.

This week on the podcast I talk to writer/director Gabriel Foster Prior about his debut feature 'The Bystanders' starring comedians Sean Walsh and Nick Helm. 

I spoke to Gabriel about how he funded the film, how he managed to release the film theatrically and the advantages of doing so. I chatted to Gabriel while he was in Cannes so also managed to catch up about this year's film festival and sales market.

I wasn't able to make it to the Cannes Film Festival this year but I know a man who has, friend of the Pod, actor and filmmaker Mark Hampton sent us a report from this years festival. Mark gives us a tour of the Palais and the Marche du Film he also chats to sales and distribution reps about this year's market and trends in the future.

This week I'm talking to Phil Griffith, the Educational lead at Framesync. Framesync is a virtual production company who help storytellers by offering a full service consultancy, from creative planning to on site delivery. They have a developmental arm creating tools for the industry and a series of courses helping to up-skill creative practitioners in all things virtual production.

This is a great one to find out more about Virtual Production, I ask Phil about all of the ins and outs of the technology, we talked about whether this technology is accessible for micro and low budget filmmakers , the impact it is having on the film industry , the challenges of using virtual production  and the opportunities it presents as well as whats coming up in the future. We also talked about Phil's career, he was previously a music teacher and now works in this brand new industry.

Today I’m talking to presenter and actor Aryana Neo. I talked to Aryana about how she got into radio presenting, networking advice and her tips for having confidence in yourself. 

Aryana is best known for her work on the radio, including BBC Solent, Heart & Capital and her community work on the South’s Asian and ethnic radio station Unity 101 FM. She has also provided voice over for BBC Inside Out South.

Aryana presents live events such as the Christmas Lights switch on 2022 in Southampton, charity galas and sports events including the World Cup Cricket, City Networking and Southampton City of Culture BID. 

This is a great one if you are interested in working as a presenter either on Radio or at live events, we talk logistics of presenting live and how to network and find those job opportunities. Enjoy!

This week I'm chatting to filmmaker, Actor and presenter Mark Hampton.

Mark has written and directed his own projects in which he's cast himself in the lead roles, he's also appeared in commercials, TV, Netflix features, he's very much a working actor.

Mark gave me his tips for auditioning, tips for starting out as an actor, we chatted about  the Cannes Film Festival and Film Market and he also gave me some great networking tips. This is a really good one if you are just starting out as an actor or you are interested in progressing your acting career by listening to someone that's out there and very much a working actor, enjoy!

Fright Fest is one of the biggest horror film festivals out there and is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. It has debuted films from the likes of Christopher Nolan, Ti West and Guillermo del Toro.

I spoke to Paul about the origins of the film festival, he gave me his tips for filmmakers entering Fright Fest, we  talked about navigating censorship and audience sensitivities. He also gave me his tips for audience members on how to get the most out of your Fright Fest experience.
