  • 65: When You Feel Just Outside of Your Creativity

One of the funniest (well, not haha funny) things I've found is that the most creative people can still worry that they're not good enough. The tragic part is that our world is missing all of the wonderful contributions that are caught in the world of self-doubt.

Do you ever feel just on the outside of your creativity?

Perhaps you worry that what you create won't be good enough. Or you hear the reverberations of past criticism - often said out of projection or unkindness.

This episode is also for anyone who ever had the silly idea that they're not creative.

Today we talk about what it feels like to not have the freedom to create, how to identify it, and what to do about it.

After you listen to this, go out and make some stuff. And have a lot of fun doing it!

  • 64: Reclaiming Your Joy with Jody Hironaka-Juteau

Do you ever feel that your life has become a little less joyful than you would like?

Do you characterize yourself as someone who loves to have fun in life? Maybe you're naturally funny or the one who’s great at creating memorable moments, however, for some reason, life has become a little too drab.

Whether it's situational or that never-ending list of things you have to do, sometimes joy can be a little elusive.

It’s such a relatable feeling. Today we talk about what to do if life feels a little too monotone.

Today Jody Hironaka-Juteau is my guest. She brings both an academic knowledge specific to this area, as well as her own personal antics and inroads into reclaiming her joy.

The interplay of what she offers can allow you to zoom out and look upon why it's so common to lose your joyful moments, while simultaneously, I believe her wonderful stories will catalyze the remembrances of your own.

It's worth noting that this kind of joy is not so sugary that it dismisses the full-spectrum of our human experiences, but rather a resonant joy that can be found amidst a full life of authenticity.

This was a delightful, informative and laughter-inducing episode. May we all reclaim a little more joy today.

Jody Hironaka-Juteau has over 20 years experience as a certified therapeutic recreation specialist (CTRS) working with children, teens, and adults in hospital and community-based settings. She has worked in the areas of physical medicine and rehabilitation, mental health, sensory impairment, and developmental disability. Currently professor of Recreation Administration at California State University, Fresno, Jody served as administrator in the College of Health and Human Services for over 9 years. She is recognized for her expertise and experience in the areas of diversity and inclusion training, collaboration, and higher education leadership. In her leisure time Jody enjoys spending time with family and friends, cycling, golfing, and playing the ukulele. She is fond of I Love Lucy reruns, crunchy Cheetos, and a good chai tea latte (soy, extra hot, no water, no foam, dirty).

  • 63: Shifting Your Negative Self-Talk with Guest Co-Host Raphaela Browne

Sometimes your negative self-talk might be so familiar that you don't even realize it's there. Consequently, you might be giving those self-limiting or criticizing narratives too much credibility and weight.

Shifting this is so important, because those negative voices can unnecessarily keep you hesitant or make you feel ill at ease. This can heartbreakingly arrest both your pursuits and your expression.

I would never want anyone to forsake their worth, beauty and talents. Your value and your uniqueness are so vital in our world

Raphaela Browne and I started this conversation in episodes 57 and 58, when we gently posed the question, "Why are you so hard on yourself?" We discussed ways to identify these limiting beliefs so that you could question the validity of the things that keep you from living freely.

As promised, we are back to discuss some inroads into these places. The first step is identifying the comments. But since it's not usually a one-and-done thing, it can take some devotion and intention to begin to shift away from those unwelcome comments.

Though it is often a process, it is SO worth it!

Not only is it possible to shift away from negative self-talk, but imagine how different your life could be if you weren't bound by them!

Raphaela and I send you our belief and our support. You deserve to live free from these uninvited limitations. They weren't meant for you to base your life on them.

Raphaela Browne is a Certified Personal and Leadership Coach helping women in leadership bring the best of who they are to their work and personal life.  Her own experience of overworking, burnout and trying to "do it all" has informed much of her work  and dedication in helping women in leadership learn how to ditch toxic productivity and show up at their best in their careers and personal life.

As a motivator, strategic thinker, and a results-driven coach, Raphaela supports leaders through a combination of Positive Psychology, along with strengths, values, and solution-based approaches.

Raphaela has provided her coaching skills to various Fortune 500 companies such as Google, Pinterest, Tesla, and more. Additionally, Raphaela has worked in the nonprofit industry for over 15 years and combines her education with experience in nonprofit management/leadership to provide a holistic approach to how she works with individuals, companies, and organizations. She’s an advocate for creating healthy cultures, systems, and structures within organizations, which aids in developing invested and thriving teams. Her main goal is to empower, as well as educate leaders with defining success on their own terms and developing long lasting strategies to move forward.     Let her show you how!

  • 62: Honoring All of Your Emotions - Part 2, Why It's Hard Sometimes with Guest Co-Host Kelsey Delane

Do you ever feel that expressing  your emotions is hard sometimes?

It's such a relatable situation because many of us have been told to not feel a certain way at one time or another. Whether that occurred in your childhood or your adulthood, it can make you feel that you don't have permission to express your emotions authentically.

Kelsey Delane is back today for the second part of our discussion about honoring all of your emotions.

Today we consider the difference between ignoring your emotions and being with them.

Kelsey brings incredible expertise to this realm. She also offers suggestions for metabolizing your emotions somatically.

It's my belief that the beauty and honesty of real moments of emotion are some of the most touching manifestations of being human.

Kelsey Delane is a bookworm, an extroverted introvert & a (milk) chocolate-lover raising three daughters while running her heart-centered yoga business. As a distraught college freshman, Kelsey first fell in love with yoga in 2006. Her yoga mat became her solace from chronic anxiety & depression and where she first explored a gentle relationship with herself. Integrating the tools of breath, somatic awareness, and yoga philosophy into her life has shown her the path to a kind of serenity that is not circumstantial. As a Yoga Therapist, Kelsey’s deepest desire is to de-mystify the time-tested wisdom of Yoga and to hold the hand of her students while they explore new ways of being & co-creating with life. She’s committed to cultivating heart-to-heart relationships that remind you how lovable you are in this exact moment, while simultaneously pushing you to grow into an even more whole version of yourself. She believes that the capacity to build these bonds starts with your friendship with yourself, and that it's within the context of these unconditional love bubbles that we can do the work of healing on the level of the body, mind, heart & spirit.

  • 59: The Importance of Hearing Your Own Voice

In recent episodes, we've been posing some existential questions. We've also asked you to ponder how you might live your life in ways that are even more in alignment with the things that matter to you.

However, amidst busy schedules and a constant access to information (as wonderful as that can be), it may be difficult to hear the stillness of your own opinions and needs.

Today, we talk about the importance of really listening to yourself - to deeply know what you think and feel.

We can accidentally pass over our own inner knowing.  We discuss some simple ways to allow your inner intelligence to reveal itself.

  • 58: Why Are You So Hard On Yourself Part 2 with Guest Co-Host Raphaela Browne

Today we focus in on the voices that can run through our heads - whether they are critical, self-doubting, accusatory, or maybe one comment that was spoken to you long ago.

This kind of "self-talk" can take up residence and can keep you from doing things you love or being who you truly are. Sometimes these voices have been riding along for so long that you don't even question their validity.

But are these voices even true?

Today we talk about the origin of this kind of self-talk, how to question the truth of this internal dialogue, and begin the devotional process of detangling them from your life.

Raphaela Browne is back to co-host today. She drops the gems, per usual.

We so appreciate you joining this conversation.
