Former Leeds and League of Ireland footballer Alan Cawley joins me this week for chats about football, the loneliness of leaving home at a very young age and what exactly happened with Sligo Rovers. Have you been watching 'Davy's Toughest Challenge' on RTE? In the show Davy Fitz challenges seven lads to make it to the summit of Mount Everest. Covid changed the challenge slightly but the show went on! One of the young man featured in the show is Sean Downey. From Cork Sean spent some time in the care system and has become a real force in promoting the it's positive side. Was great to chat to him and he had plenty of stuff to say to me. A few days ago I got an email from Ranae and it went a little something like this...

"Hi Keith

My name is Ranae and I’m a writer and same-sex parenting and lifestyle blogger from Dublin, Ireland. Myself and my wife Audrey have two daughters. Ava is 4 and her sister Arya is 2. I'm also an activist and the CEO of 'Equality for Children' a campaign for equality for children of LGBT+ parents in Ireland.

I'm not sure how much you are aware of when it comes to rights for gay families here in Ireland so I'll give a quick overview. As it stands, I am considered a single parent to our daughters. My wife, who is their biological mom, is considered a legal stranger to our kids because she did not physically give birth to them, I did. Our kids, along with countless others in Ireland, are denied the right to a legal connection with both of their parents, simply due to their parents being LGBTQ+. Most people are horrified when they hear this, and often do not realise how far behind the times Ireland is when it comes to equality for LGBTQ+ families"

So I asked if she was a good talker and would she come on as a guest and she said yes and she did!
