By bringing the industry to our youth, through their schools, Blake is making a difference by showing kids that there are living wage jobs in the forest products industry.

In this episode I sit down with the 2026 Sierra Cascade Logging Conference President Chris Chitwood and Second Vise President Zane Peterson. We talk about why they work so hard every year to put the show on and what they do as an organization to promote and support the logging and construction industries in the region.

We talk about how they raise money and what organizations get supported. Last year, the Sierra Cascade Logging Conference was able to fund scholarships to over 50 hard working future leaders totaling over $107,000 in scholarships alone.

The annual Forest Products and Construction Equipment Expo will be held at the Shasta District Fair & Event Center in Anderson, California from Thursday February 5th to Saturday February 7th, 2026. The area will be filled with vendors from all sides of the industry, a log loading competition and an excavator rodeo. You won't want to miss this event.

In this episode I sit down with David Grim, the Health and Safety Manager from Associated Oregon Loggers. We talk about David's background, how he grew up logging in his families business and the path his career took to eventually land him in my office on a cut rate podcast (lol).

I've never been a fan of safety folks, but David is an exception to that rule. We talk about some recent changes to OSHA regulations, including the new fine schedule for repeat offenders. This episode should open some peoples eyes about the new fine schedule for sure.

David added a note after we recorded the show and this is what he sent over regarding OROSHA Division 1: "It also has some governance of some general hazards like defining what is a recordable hearing claim, record keeping requirements and some stuff like that. In addition to what I said it was. I guess I didn’t completely misspoke, but there’s just more to it than what I said." If any of you are outfits who are members of AOL, I highly recommend utilizing the great folks on David's team to be sure you're compliance.
