In this edition of Locked on Capitals Dan talks about the latest with TJ Oshie and Dimitri Orlov. Both were injured in the last game against the Red Wings.

When questioned at the press conference today about their progress Peter Laviolette simply said they're day to day and not to expect to see TJ Oshie in the final preseason game Saturday.

Later in the show I talk about Aliaksei Protas and how he's battling to find a spot on this year's Capitals team. Will the possibility of TJ Oshie missing some time mean more playing time for a guy like Aliaksei Protas? Protas has played in all of the preseason games. He has a large frame and a little bit of bite to his game. With the absence of Tom Wilson until around Christmas the Capitals will need someone like Aliaksei Protas to fill that role.

Protas put in extra work and said:

“One hundred percent, in games right now, I realize I got better and I got so much work left,” Protas said. “I just got to keep it going right now. … With the improvements to my skating] I feel like I get better on forecheck and I can get closer to the D-man.”
