Sometimes oil and gas wells or leases are sold to another company and if you have a royalty interest in the wells, you end up getting royalty checks from the new operator once the sale goes through. This is a time in royalty ownership where you need to be on top of your game to make sure the transition goes smoothly so you get paid what you deserve.
Have you ever wondered if you are getting paid the correct amount? Have you tried to make sense of your royalty check but weren't sure where to start? If you said yes to either of these questions, then you are in luck! In this episode we go through the steps involved with auditing your royalty statements and a quick and easy end-of-year check that all royalty owners should do.
To help you calculate if you are getting paid correctly, I've created this free Royalty Audit Worksheet. Keep track of your wells, perform a quick end of year royalty audit against your 1099's, or do a full audit, all using this helpful tool!

Did you know that for some lands in Texas that were sold between 1895, the state owns the minerals under those lands but the surface owner has the right to lease these lands and in return, they receive ½ of the bonus, royalty and other consideration paid by the lessee in lieu of surface damages?
In this episode, we dust off our Texas History books and talk about how this came to be and a little known resource that all Texas mineral owners can use to find out what others have leased their minerals for in your area.
