  • Family of Secrets: The Bush Dynasty, America's Invisible Government, and the Hidden History of the Last Fifty Years
How did the deeply flawed George W. Bush ascend to the highest office in the nation, what forces abetted his rise, and-perhaps most important-have those forces really been vanquished by Obama's election? Award-winning investigative journalist Russ Baker gives us the answers in Family of Secrets, a compelling and startling new take on the Bush dynasty and the shadowy elite that has quietly steered the American republic for the past half century and more. Baker shows how this network of figures in intelligence, the military, oil, and finance enabled-and in turn benefited handsomely from-the Bushes' perch at the highest levels of government. As Baker reveals, this deeply entrenched elite remains in power regardless of who sits in the Oval Office.
Family of Secrets offers countless disclosures that challenge the conventional accounts of such central events as the JFK assassination and Watergate. It includes an inside account of George W.'s cynical religious conversion and the untold real background to the disastrous response to Hurricane Katrina. Baker's narrative is gripping, sobering, and deeply sourced. It will change the way we understand not just the Bush years, but a half century of postwar history-and the present

  • Visas for Al Qaeda: CIA Handouts That Rocked the World: An Insider's View
Thousands of American soldiers and civil servants have lost their lives in the War on Terror. Innocent citizens of many nations, including Americans killed on 9/11, have also paid the ultimate price. While the US government claims to stand against terror, this same government refuses to acknowledge its role in creating what has become a deadly international quagmire. Visas for al-Qaeda: CIA Handouts That Rocked the World sets the record straight by laying the blame on high-ranking US government officials.

During the 1980s, the CIA recruited and trained Muslim operatives to fight the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. Later, the CIA would move those operatives from Afghanistan to the Balkans, and then to Iraq, Libya, and Syria, traveling on illegal US visas. These US-backed and trained fighters would morph into an organization that is synonymous with jihadist terrorism: al-Qaeda.

    J. Michael Springmann, a former US diplomat, names individuals and organizations that deny culpability. He analyzes the effects of a nebulous war on the US economy and infrastructure. After thirteen bloody years, Springmann exposes hypocrisy and deceit wrapped in a sullied flag of patriotism and honor.

  • Revolution's End: The Patty Hearst Kidnapping, Mind Control, and the Secret History of Donald DeFreeze and the SLA
“A stunning and chilling expose of . . . the rise of the Symbionese Liberation Army and the kidnapping of bad-girl heiress Patty Hearst” (David Talbot, founder of Salon).

Revolution’s End fully explains the most famous kidnapping in US history, detailing Patty Hearst’s relationship with Donald DeFreeze, known as Cinque, head of the Symbionese Liberation Army. Not only did the heiress have a sexual relationship with DeFreeze while he was imprisoned; she didn’t know he was an informant and a victim of prison behavior modification.

Neither Hearst nor the white radicals who followed DeFreeze realized that he was molded by a CIA officer and allowed to escape. His secret mission was to infiltrate and discredit Bay Area anti-war radicals and the Black Panther Party, the nexus of seventies activism. When that failed, DeFreeze was alienated from his controllers and decided to become a revolutionary, since his life was in jeopardy. The kidnapping of Hearst sparked one of the largest shootouts in U.S. history—which killed six members of the SLA in South Central Los Angeles—and ended when the LAPD set fire to the house and incinerated those six radicals on live television, nationwide, as a warning to American leftists.

“A gripping read—a persuasive, well-researched and detailed interpretation of what is known about the SLA kidnapping of Patty Hearst.” —Peter Dale Scott, author of The American Deep State

“This book careens to its bloody ending with all of the inevitability of a train wreck. Schreiber . . . ignites the past in chilling detail and at the same time shines an uncanny and unsettling light on who we are today.” —T. Jefferson Parker, New York Times–bestselling author

  • Freeway Rick Ross: The Untold Autobiography
reeway Rick Ross: The Untold Autobiography is an intimate look at the day-to-day dealings of a drug kingpin in the heart of the ghetto. It’s also the story of a boy born in poverty Texas who grew up in a single-parent household in the heart of South Central, who was pushed through the school system each year and came out illiterate. His options were few, and he turned to drug dealing. This Untold Autobiography is not only personal, but also historical in its implications. Rick Ross chronicles the times by highlighting the social climate that made crack cocaine so desirable, and he points out that at the time, the “cops in the area didn’t know what crack was; they didn’t associate the small white rocks they saw on homies as illegal drugs.” All Rick Ross knew was people wanted it.
