Capt. Kevin and Capt. Cory were in studio talking about the reason Capt. Ricky wasn’t with them: the glorious return of the ONE-DAY SNAPPER SEASON on Friday! Of course, the talk wasn’t so much about catching snapper as it was about the ridiculous reg and the resulting bottleneck of boats in First Coast waters.
They also talked about the decent week that was, as well as the week to come. Be sure to listen for the forecast to plan your next angling excursion.
The boys were back in town and ready to go today, and they brought Garmin’s Dowe Thornton in as well! If you’ve been listening to the Outdoors Show with any regularity over the past couple of years, you know everyone has been talking about the amazing technological advancements in fishing. Dowe is a Sr. Marine Sales and Support rep, and was able to give us a peek behind the curtain to talk about all the incredible things Garmin has on the market and how it can help you land more – and bigger – fish.
Capt. Kirk, Jeff and Chris were all on vacation, so Capt. Kevin got hand-select his team for this episode! He called in Matt Bridgewater, his buddy Capt. Ron Gibson (aka “Boo”), and Capt. Chip Wingo all sat in, and Gibby took Chris’ chair to spin the hits!
Obviously, fishing talk ruled the day, but after last week’s nor’easter, it wasn’t the easiest subject to talk about. Somehow, the guys managed, and it turned out to be a blast of a show.
Capt. Kevin was talking about it. Capt. Ricky was talking about it. What were they talking about? Just how difficult a week it’s been for fishing. Listen in for the details, and most importantly, if the weather was going to do us all some favors next week.
The guys had a pretty cool visitor to the Outdoors Show Studios during this episode: Cliff Prince, winner of the Bassmaster Elite Series at Wheeler Lake! Cliff talked about the tournament, the gear, being on the tour, and a whole lot more.
Capt. Kevin was back in the studio with Jeff and Capt. Kirk, and the top story was the weather…and just how bad it was since last week’s show! But it wasn’t just the weather that was bad – between Kirk’s spider encounters and Chris’ continued Moccasin Massacre 2024, there was a lot to cringe about. But as you’ve come to know, the guys are ones to stay negative for very long. Kevin told some great stories about his trip to Kentucky, and they found a bunch of other things to have a ball with!
With Capt. Kevin doing some OSR in Kentucky, Capt. Chip Wingo sat in once again to talk about all things summer on the First Coast: the good fishing, the bad bait situation, the heat, the snakes, the recent shark attacks and more. Everybody also talked about the Old School Kingfish Shootout…kinda had to, since Paul Dozier called in with the recap! LOL
Even though Kevin wasn’t in-studio, he did call in to give his personal perspective on the Old School, share what he was doing in Kentucky, and give his perspective on the ridiculous red snapper season news that came down this week.
What’s a guy gotta do to get a quality crew these days? Okay – Capt. Ricky and Capt. Cory may have left Capt. Kevin all alone in the Fishing Forecast studio, but Capt. Ricky DID call in to share the story of his first-ever blue marlin! Of course, Capt. Kevin filled everyone in on the Old School Kingfish Shootout, and the usual cast of characters called in as well.
And did we forget? NO…you’ll get the forecast for the upcoming week as well.
The Old School Kingfish Shootout is upon us, so Capt. Kirk (a.k.a. Cheaty McCheaterson) and Jeff were talking about it with Tournament Director Paul Dozier and a bunch of participants…including Capt. Kevin! Capt. Chip Wingo sat in with the guys too, and supplied his own perspective on all the Old School fun.
3-2-1 Saint Louis Ribs
Seasoned and smoked for 3 hours in Apple then 1/3’s of butter honey and bbq sauce painted on then wrapped tight with butcher paper for 2 hours. Then opened and painted with original Sweet Baby Rays for the last hour. Amazing!!
Capt. Kevin and Capt. Cory held down the fort this week while some Forecast mainstays were away. Capt. Ricky couldn’t be in the studio because he was on Cloud Nine…he caught his first ever blue marlin! And Capt. Leon called like he calls every week, but not from home…Capt. Leon checked in from Yellowstone!
There was also lots of great fishing talk to be had, of course, especially with the Old School Kingfish Shootout on the horizon. Find out how the weather’s going to play out for one of the biggest tournaments of the year on the First Coast.
The beach was going CRAZY with kingfish this week, and the guys were all about it. They had all kinds of stories about the fishing over the past several days…and speculated about just how great it’s going to be for the Old School Kingfish Shootout. And speaking of the Old School, Paul Dozier called in to talk about the tournament and just how great things are looking for one of the best tournaments ever.
The guys also talked about the yacht that centered that concrete buoy and got some national attention. How does that happen? What was really going on? Yep – things that make you go hmmmm…
Dustin Scott called in to talk about his dream wahoo catch: 6′ long and 76.5 lbs! It’s a great story with all kinds of cool aspects to it – it’s definitely worth the listen.
But it wasn’t all about fishing: the guys welcomed in Gregg Farrell from Tactacam, the trail camera they use…and absolutely love. Check out all their products on their website.
