It’s COOOOOOOOLLLLLLLDDDDD! Well, it’s cold for us in mid-February, anyway…after a downright bizarre week of weather. But the weather has never held the boys back from getting outside, and they came to the studio with a bunch of stories to share. Want some cool speck fishing insight? You got it. Want to laugh a bit? Check out the story of the Outdoors Show logo desecration at the 8th Annual Walter “Chuck” Foster Angelwood Sporting Clay Shoot. How ’bout some shotgun 411? We have you covered.
Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week: Spring cleaning time! If you want to clean your dock, front porch etc. Here is a great combo: use 30 Second Outdoor Cleaner to prep it, then use Thompson’s Water Sealer to preserve it!

Here’s your Kirbyco Builders Inc. cooking tip of the week: Crack cheese meat topper! Great way to add a little change up to your dinner plate!
“Hollywood”…or Capt. Ricky, if you prefer, was at the tale end of a 12+ hour offshore trip, so he was in no shape to make the show (understandably so). With his chair empty, Capt. Kevin and Capt. Scott manned the studio and talked about a lot of things, including just how rough it’s been. And how ’bout that inlet? Rougher, tougher, leaner, and meaner than ever!
But the question is this: just how tough is the weather going to be this upcoming week? Listen in, find out!
Capt. Kirk was out this week, doing a little OSR in Folly Beach, SC. So Jeff and Capt. Kevin handled the hosting duties, and it didn’t take long to get into it. From nuisance river rats (translation: beavers and otters) and nasty weather to controlled burns and fishing in February.
But the guys also welcomed in Frank Wallmeyer of Standard Feed and Seed! They’ve got a big event happening today at 1236 Kings Rd…and you don’t want to miss it! Seriously – how could you ever miss Chicken Poop Bingo! LOL The talk shifted (thankfully) to all kinds of things they carry at the store…and calls came in from everywhere about just how great Standard Feed and Seed (and Frank) is!

Capt. Kevin, Capt. Ricky and Capt. Scott settled in for what turned out to be quite the fun episode! Between the wild weather changes, doctor visits, and “interesting” new regs impacting crabbers, there was a lot to talk about. And, of course, the episode wouldn’t be complete without a chat about the upcoming forecast.
The boys were back, and with plenty of stories. Capt. Kevin returned from Georgia, where he did some OSR with the Jimmies (if ya know, ya know…and if you don’t, you need to listen) – and be sure to check out his story about fried fish. Jeff was doing something a little different: he was on his annual post-Jags vacation…this time he hung out in Jamaica and had some stories about the environment, the scenery, and his new friend Uncle Dready. Yes, you read that correctly…Uncle Dready.
Stories galore, along with some great tips for getting through this time of year! Lots of OS faithful called in too (they really put Chris to work), so you’ll be hearing all kinds of great stories and questions.
Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week: Gain some knowledge from Kevin’s Dad, Worley Faver, by getting his 3rd and NEW book – Endless Path of Time – just out on Amazon!
Here’s your Ring Power CAT tip of the week: February is such a great time to be around your hunting property! Absolutely the best time of year to scout… Never know what you might find! Or you can just relax and enjoy!
Here’s your Kirbyco Builders Inc. cooking tip of the week: It’s MAGIC…Chef Paul Prudhomme’s Magic Seasoning Blend. It’s great for blackening fish, chicken and steak!
As Scotty said to kick things off, “the band’s back together!” Capt. Kevin was back from his hog-hunting OSR in Georgia, so he, Capt. Scott and Capt. Ricky got after it in the studio once again. Capt. Kevin had A LOT to talk about when it came to the trip, including his adventures in frying fish…and what the family thought of the “southern style.”
But don’t worry – if you’re looking for a forecast, you’ll most definitely get one. Will you like what you hear? No guarantees on that one…
Well, this is the time of year when the guys work on some OSR. This week, both Capt. Kevin and Jeff were out and about, so Capt. Kirk welcomed in RingPower Fishing Forecast co-hosts Capt. Scott “That’s Me!” Shank and Capt. Ricky “Hollywood” Poupore to fill the chairs and talk outdoors.
The weather was the big topic, of course…it was like a yo-yo! Temps up and down, wind speed up and down, wind direction all over the place. But when you have three charter captains in the house with a TON of experience, you can bet there’s a bunch of info getting thrown around that you can use to improve your fishing game!
Some of the greatest stuff that happens on the show each episode comes from the callers, and this episode was no difference. Capt. Lawson called in from Yulee, and he brought the knowledge when it comes to shrimp! If you have any questions about those little buggers, or if you’d like to learn A LOT, the guys’ chat with him is 100% worth the listen.
Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week: Rust-Oleum Cold Galvanizing Compound is a great product Captain Kirk uses when occasional rust pops up on the trailer. $10 at Hagan Ace Hardware

Capt. Kevin was out doing some OSR with Grandpa Jimmy up in Georgia (what could possibly go wrong…), so Capt. Scott and Capt. Ricky manned the ship and couldn’t help but talk about the funky weather happening all over the First Coast. Hot one day, cold the next. Windy one day, calm the next. What’s an angler to do? Well, listen to this episode to find out.
With the Jags rolling on to KC for the Divisional Round of the playoffs (#IWATJ), Jeff was away from the studio. In his stead, Capt. Kevin and Capt. Kirk were joined by two – count ’em two – Fishing Forecast folks: co-host Capt. Ricky (a.k.a. “Hollywood”) Poupore and Capt. Chip Wingo!
There was, as you could guess, a bunch of fishing talk on this episode, including some great stories about scary fish encounters. We’re talking sharks, cudas, and big heavies going crazy on the deck! You can also listen for some cool insights about trolling motors, too.
But there were also plenty of hunting stories, too, so don’t think they slept on the other side of the outdoors.
Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week from Captain Kevin: A Seadek 36 inch Fish Ruler! These fish rulers are very nice. I placed mine on the floor on the back of the boat. Much easier to measure a fish on the floor than trying to hold it up! Go to Seadek.com to purchase.
Here’s your Ring Power CAT tip of the week: Buy inexpensive towels for the boat or garage in bulk. It’s cheaper. You can get Fruitland Bar Towels at Restaurant Depot!
Here’s your Kirbyco Builders Inc. cooking tip of the week: Captain Kevin’s Bacon wrapped deer roast
Seasonings or your rub of choice. Then do an over lapping bacon wrap. Put the roast in a gallon zip lock and then cover in Zesty Italian dressing. Marinate overnight. Grill on off-setting heat until medium rare. Simple and delicious!!
Capt. Scott was back, so the gang was back in business! Well, if by “back in business”, we’re talking about shelling out some cash to the First Coast businesses like Waylen Bay Marine that specialize in getting boats ready for the new season.
Yeah, there’s a lot to do to get ready, but there’s some good fishing to be had as well…if the weather cooperates. Find out what the guys are seeing in the forecast for the upcoming week!
