The gang was back in the studio for a special episode of the Outdoors Show. Of course, the guys are always talking outdoors, but with the Jags hosting a PLAYOFF game later on, it was hard not to talk football.
So what’s an hunter when deer season cranks down? The guys talked about all the options to get us through until we can start dropping some osceolas. Kirk also talked about last week’s deer hunt that kept him out of the studio last week.
Kirk also told everybody about the incredible fishing he experienced over the past several days. If you want to know how to blow the minds of people visiting from Pennsylvania to fish…this is the story for you!
From the “Saving The Best For Last” Department, you know that amazing rendition of the national anthem Paul Wane delivered on the electric guitar before the Titans game? Well, Paul joined the show to talk about the experience…and play the anthem for us! He also talked about his Guitars for Kids Foundation, his band “Duval County Line”, and the Paul Wane Experience. Visit https://www.paulwanemusic.com/ to learn more about them all!

Here’s your Kirbyco Builders Inc. cooking tip of the week: Livia’s seasoning is simple and amazing! Perfect for steaks, burgers or anything you need to salt and pepper quickly! $9.99 on Amazon
Capt. Scott was out of office, so Capt. Kevin and Capt. Ricky, along with the usual cast of characters, piped up to talk trolling this week. Whether it was for wahoo, AJ’s, or even kingfish, they talked about all the cool ways to land ’em…and where to do it.
They also, as you’ve come to know, talked about the upcoming forecast – find out if the conditions will be right for you to land what you’re looking for!
It goes without saying that everyone on the First Coast is a little fired up this week because of the Jags/Titans game. And of course, with our favorite Jaguar Jeff Lageman in the studio, things are at a bit of a fever pitch. But here on the Outdoors Show – it was ALWAYS fishing and hunting! (see what we did there?)
Now Kirk was out doing some OSR – specifically, he’s taking advantage of December whitetail “exuberance” in Georgia – so the guys brought in Mr. Paul Dozier to talk about the Northeast Florida Wahoo Shootout, high-speed trolling, and the merits of bringing in breakfast from Maple Street Biscuit Co.
And as usual, lots of great stories and calls to make it another great episode.
Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week: If you’re adding some new rims to your trailer…treat them with Rust-Oleum Never Wet. It’s Available at Home Depot and Lowes and repels water off your rim, which deters rusting! Approximately $20
Here’s your Ring Power CAT tip of the week: January is boat maintenance month! If you have had an issue with your boat now is the time to get it fixed. Don’t wait until March when everyone is busy! We recommend Whalen Bay Marine or Atlantic Coast Marine.
Here’s your Kirbyco Builders Inc. cooking tip of the week. There’s NOTHING better with pot roast or a beef stew than Jiffy cornbread. If you’re trying to make cornbread any other way or think you know of something better… we’d love to hear it. We think Jiffy is
Capt. Kevin was out, so Capt. Scott and Capt. Ricky had Capt. Bill sit in with them to talk about this week’s First Coast fishing. But it took about 30 seconds to get to the scariest thing ever when you’re in a boat…FOG. See if your experience matched theirs this week, and see if the fog hangs around when you get the forecast.
It’s New Year’s Eve, and what do you think the boys are doin’? Prepping for a night of New Year’s festivities? Maybe gearing up for a fun bowl game schedule or another Jags win? Or maybe they’re jotting down some of those resolutions? HECK NO! It was time to talk outdoors (and food).
Of course, with Christmas in the rear view, all of us talked about our Christmases, good gifts and great times with family.
Finally, there’s ANOTHER Uncle Jimmy story…and yeah, it’s a must-listen!
Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week: The H3 Locking Hoist 5:1 Bullseye. Work smarter not harder and save your back… get a hoist to lift deer or whatever needs lifting. Find it on Amazon.
Here’s your Ring Power CAT tip of the week: Trout can be tough to get to bite but with a float rig it really helps in cold weather!
Here’s your Kirbyco Builders Inc. cooking tip of the week. To finish off a smoked spiral ham to get that perfect outer glaze… use strawberry, peach or your favorite jam! Once it’s done… place a pan under the ham. Smother the ham with the contents of the jar and then turn the heat up to caramelize the ham on the outside. Jeff used a mix of strawberry and peach. DELISH!!
If you’re a fan of the Fishing Forecast and the Outdoors Show, you’ve undoubtedly heard for the past few months that Kevin was getting a custom ride from Valentino Custom Boats. And if you were at Ringpower for the Christmas Show, you got to see it. Well, it went on it’s maiden voyage today, and Capt. Kevin and Capt. Scott talked all about the experience…super cool stuff!
NOTE: As you’ll hear from Kevin at the beginning of the show, the guys were experiencing some technical issues. But thanks to the often unsung hero of 1010XL, Engineering Master Richie Clemons, the boys were able to get everything back on track. As a bonus, you’ll get to hear Richie on the air for what may be the first time ever – pay no attention to the man behind the curtain!
This goes without saying, but the guys talked about the weather, and getting out of that nasty cold snap. Will it continue to warm up and make life easier on all of us First Coast anglers? Listen in and find out…
With Jeff on Christmas OSR, Capt. Kevin and Capt. Kirk called on Capt. Scott Shank and Capt. Leon Dana to fill up the studio for a special Christmas Eve edition of the Outdoors Show!
Just like the song, the weather outside is FRIGHTFUL…but that doesn’t mean there weren’t plenty of good stories to be told, laughs to be had, and good times to enjoy.
From all of us to all of you, have a very Merry Christmas!
Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week: Captain Kirk loves his heated vest from Ororo.

Here’s your Ring Power CAT tip of the week: If you are planning on fishing in the next week you really need to pay attention to the water temperature! If it starts to get below 54 degrees you absolutely have to slow your presentation way down. Fish will not move around much to feed! Also sheepshead and whiting enjoy the colder water temperatures! Colder weather typically means they prefer a medium to small shrimp versus big baits.
Here’s your Kirbyco Builders Inc. cooking tip of the week: One of the best baking tips ever. This really works! If you need to soften butter quickly but don’t want to MELT it, put boiling hot water in a glass to heat the glass. Dump the water out and flip it over your stick of butter. In a few minutes it will be perfectly soft to use!
Capt. Kevin was still out doing some OSR, so Capt. Kirk and Jeff brought in friend of the show Dave Edwards of Tall Tines Consulting to talk about hunting whitetails in December. Lots of great info (and some good fun) in this one!
With Capt. Kevin doing some OSR in Georgia, Capt. Scott got us ready for quite a chilly week. Get the details on the forecast right here!
The OS Christmas Show was back and better than ever! We got together with the OS family and had a ball at Ringpower for the show. Talked about all kinds of great fishing and hunting stuff, and we gave away a big ‘ol pile of prizes!
