The captains piled into the studio to say goodbye to March with some good, bad and ugly stories. Here was the question: with a couple decent days at the inlets under their belts, would the forecast be good enough to continue the trend?
Listen in to find out!
Capt. Kirk was supposed to bring everybody shrimp. He didn’t. Jeff brought some roast, so everyone was looking forward to some surf’n’turf. But Kirk forgot the shrimp.
Of course, the guys weren’t completely consumed with the shrimp they couldn’t consume…there was all kinds of hunting and fishing talk. In addition, there’s even a scallywag sighting! Can you guess who it is?

It’s no secret that here on the First Coast, the weather can be a bit cantankerous through February and March. Well, 2022 is living up to that reputation and more – it’s being downright malicious! More cancelled trips and frustration for Capt. Kevin and Capt. Scott…and most likely for you too!
But the important question is this: with April coming up next week, are things going to change for the better? Listen in to find out.
Jeff decided to do a little OSR up in Georgia, so he joined the show courtesy of some high-tech contraption. But Capt. Kevin and Capt. Kirk did it the old-fashioned way and showed up in the studio to talk about some interesting happenings with the weather and the water this week.
Of course, with turkey season coming up, the anticipation continues to grow, so you can bet there was a lot of bird banter.
Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week from Captain Kirk: Spring is here and fish will be eager to eat artificial lures. Get your favorites ready to go!
Here’s your Ring Power CAT tip of the week: If you want to catch some dinosaurs… Captain Kirk says use a fresh half or whole LIVE blue crab. Captain Kevin says… Also even better… Pogies are thick!

With last names like “Faver” and “Shank”, you probably guessed that Capt. Kevin and Capt. Scott aren’t Irish. But, during this special St. Patrick’s Day episode, you get to find out if the boys were finding four leaf clovers or kissing the blarney stone.
Be listening for the forecast, too, so you can figure out if you’ll be finding a pot of gold at the end of your line this coming week.
Capt. Kirk and Jeff were back from fishing the El Cheapo, and they both felt like somebody was working against them! Not some other boat, not the tournament organizers, not even Mother Nature. We’re talking about worms. MILLIONS of worms. Everywhere. And when you see a million worms in the water, you’re not going to see one hungry fish. It’s WORM SABOTAGE!
To talk about those nasty worms, and all other kinds of things aquatic, JU’s Dr. Quinton White came in to sit with the boys and take all kinds of questions including species migration, environment impacts, sharks, mangroves and more. Sometimes, it gets a little science-y, but don’t you worry…we’ve been assured there WON’T be a quiz.
Turkey talk was also blowing up, because everybody’s getting a little antsy about their upcoming chance to bag a bird. Wait until you hear Capt. Leon Dana’s story about nearly grabbing one…you’re not going to believe where he was.

If you’re old, and if you liked pop music back in the ’80s, you’ll remember a hit from the Eurythmics called, “Here Comes the Rain Again”. Well, even though Capt. Kevin, Capt. Scott and Capt. Ricky have no idea who that band is, they were singing that song. It sure is tough to enjoy some fishing when it’s nothing but rain, rain, rain.
But the question is this: when will the boys start singing “Here Comes the Sun”?? Listen for the upcoming forecast and find out…
The boys were on the road again…well, that’s not exactly accurate. It’s El Cheapo Day, so Capt. Kirk and Jeff are competing again on the water. As for Capt. Kevin, he checked in live from Consignment Boat Sales for the seventh consecutive year with Capt. Scott Shank and Capt. Chip Wingo!
As you’d expect, there was a bunch of fishing talk, and since we’re now in turkey time, Kevin had some cool stories about a gobbler…and a pesky beaver!
Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week: From Captain Scott Shank… Bio-Kleen is a great product for cleaning the boat and getting ready for great spring fishing!
Here’s your Ring Power CAT tip of the week: This is the time of year to catch a giant drum! Here’s your Kirbyco Builders Inc. cooking tip of the week from Captain Chip Wingo:
Black and Blue Redfish
Cut redfish or other hardy fish such as mahi in 6 to 8 oz pieces. Hand rub filets with Zatarains New Orleans blackening spice coating fish evenly on both sides. Heat cast iron skillet on outside grill on high. When skillet is hot add 1 tablespoon of cold unsalted butter to pan. When butter starts to smoke add filets. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes on each side. Remove fish from pan. While fish is hot top fish with crumbled blue cheese. Use a brioche butter toasted bun for sandwiches or place fish on red beans and rice for an entree.
So the guys started talking about the weather, and Scotty dropped a little nugget that tonight was a “Worm Moon”. What’s a Worm Moon, you ask? Well, none of the boys were quite sure until Capt. Ricky did a quick GTS and explained it (you’ll have to listen to get the story behind the whacky name).
In other news, Capt. Scotty was in a pretty bad mood. Why, you ask? Well, let’s just say that if you had the same couple of days that Scotty did, you might be in a bad mood, too.
But that might not be the case. Be listening for the forecast, because it might have you doing a happy dance. Why, you ask? Boy, you sure do ask a lot of questions.
Sure, there’s a lot going on in the outdoors, but when one of the hosts has a birthday, that’s got be the big story, right? Congrats to Capt. Kevin, who turns 56 today! His big plans…what do you think? He’s headed to GA for some outdoors heaven.
But the big story, of course, involved Jeff and Capt. Kirk, who were out of the studio and taking Mr. Bill Dance out on some fishing excursions. Lots of stories throughout this entire episode about the fishing, the boat, the gear, and as you would imagine, the legendary Mr. Dance himself.
