So why exactly is Capt. Scott grinning from one side of his face to the other? Well, why spoil the surprise? Listen in to find out what’s made him one happy captain.
Then, listen up to find out if you’re going to be one happy angler this coming week when they give you the forecast.
With Capt. Kirk and Jeff gearing up to take fishing legend Bill Dance on a local angling excursion, Capt. Kevin found himself all alone in the studio…but not for long! Capt. Leon Dana stepped in to hang out, and we welcomed back Capt. Rich Gray!
With three captains in the room, you can bet there was a lot of fishing talk going on. But, with turkey season coming up, it was impossible to not talk about their days going to the birds.
Finally, if you’re still looking for a reason to listen, you MUST check out the story about Capt. Scott Shank taking his wife out for her birthday this week. What a romantic! LOL
Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week: The “holster “ by robocup. Mounts to a rod holder to hold pliers, hook remover and more. $18.99 www.therobocup.com
Here’s your Ring Power CAT tip of the week: With all the cold weather and lack of rain in the past few weeks the water is cold and clear. If you’re having a hard time getting fish to bite try a couple of things. First, back off your tackle size. Go to lighter flourocarbon, lighter main and terminal tackle. Also use small baits… shrimp, mud minnows or mullet.
Here’s your Kirbyco Builders Inc. cooking tip of the week: Captain Kevin’s kitchen skills consist of making toast. So it makes sense that his tip may very well be the worst “cooking” tip ever. Listen in to find out what it is…
With Valentine’s Day in their wake, Capt. Kevin and Capt. Scott took some time to reflect on the week, and you’ll be able to tell pretty quick whether they found themselves in love or hatin’ life. Same goes for Capt. Ricky, but for an entirely different reason: he was doing some FFR (Fishing Forecast Research) at the Miami Boat Show! Ya gotta wonder…did Ricky just window shop, or did he pull the trigger????
Get all the details, and the forecast too, of course.
There was a lot of ground to cover with the guys, mainly because of all the interesting happenings with the weather. Jeff had a chance to do some controlled burning in GA, while Kevin and Kirk had some pretty interesting – and a little frustrating – fishing experiences.
Of course, everybody talked a lot about food…probably because Chef Gordon hooked them up with another gourmet breakfast!
And finally, the guys tipped a cap to Tony Boselli, who was selected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Way to go, Big Bo!
Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week: Portable heating lunch box $29.00. You can put leftovers into it to heat up lunchtime on the go in your truck or boat. A neighbor got it for Captain Kirk at a Loves Super Truck Stop.
Here’s your Ring Power CAT tip of the week: If you have the capability to get in really skinny water now is time to fish WAY back on the creeks. The water temperature is still very cold and the reds have not made their way out of the creeks. The best tide is low incoming and follow the creek all the way back until you find fish!!
Here’s your Kirbyco Builders Inc. cooking tip of the week: Listen in as the guys share their favorite Super Bowl appetizers! Fritters, Vodka, Chicken Wings and Cowboy Caviar.

After days and days of dealing with the cold, the rain and the wind, Capt. Kevin, Capt. Scott and Capt. Ricky FINALLY had a great day to fish! You’ll get to hear all about it, and you’ll also find out if the good weather’s going to continue.
This episode had it all!
With Jeff checking in from home, Capt. Kevin and Capt. Kirk checked in to talk fishing…and how chilly the water is all around the First Coast. But regardless of what the weather is doing, the fishing continues, so tune in to check out how things were going and what, if anything, was biting.
Things went CRAZY when Kevin brought up the KirbyCo Builders tip – pork rinds (or chicarones for you upper crust types). You can check out his tip below, but the conversation quickly turned to what brands are good, where you get ’em, what restaurants have ’em, and more. The boys got blistered with texts, calls and Facebook messages about how much people LOVE their pork rinds! Funny, funny stuff…
Finally, Dave Edwards from Tall Tines Consulting and White Oak Plantation checked in to talk about a SCARY story involving his deer stand. You’ll definitely want to listen in…and get freaked out.
Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week: Jeff is sick of the litter and uses the ‘pik stik’ to pick things up without breaking his back. Get yours here:

Here’s your Ring Power CAT tip of the week:
February is a magical time in the woods. Because deer season has been over now for awhile this is the time to find new stand sights. Finding old rubs and scrapes you’ve missed over the years or a deer trail that now is so visible. Now is the time to move stands. The weather is perfect and the animals will have plenty of time to accept your stand before this coming season!
Here’s your Kirbyco Builders Inc. cooking tip of the week: Kevin says Turkey Creek Snacks make absolutely the best pork rinds he has ever eaten!
Time flies, doesn’t it? Can’t believe it, but we’re ALREADY in February, and the weather seems to be taking a turn for the better!
Capt. Kevin, Capt. Scott and Capt. Ricky talked about the good fortunes that came along with the good temps, and of course, they spent some time predicting just how good the upcoming weather patterns are going to be for First Coast anglers.
So, maybe, just for this episode, we should call it the Nimnicht Chevy / Nimnicht Buick/GMC INDOORS Show! Think about it for a sec: considering the combination of the lousy weather and the fun of the Jacksonville Boat Show inside the Prime Osborn Convention Center.
This episode was loads of fun with all kinds of guests, including “host in training” Erin Johnson, and all kinds of gawking at some of the most amazing watercraft around.
Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week from Captain Kirk: New Shimano Stradic 3000 with a GLF 7’6″ spinning rod. It’s the perfect El Cheapo Combo!
Approximately $299 at Strike-Zone Fishing Jacksonville.
Here’s your Ring Power CAT tip of the week from Captain Kevin: With all the cold weather we’ve been having and the water temperature in the low 50’s Redfish have been schooled up tight! Think of spots with a dark muddy bottom at low tide and fish those spots on the incoming tide. Those fish will be looking for warmth. And work your baits ever so slow!
Here’s your Kirbyco Builders Inc. cooking tip of the week: Get this for that upcoming Super Bowl BBQ! Kirk’s new favorite… Thomas Bessinger’s Original BBQ Sauce. He says it’s the best mustard base BBQ sauce he has ever had! $7.99 and he ordered it online.
Capt. Kevin was beside himself with glee, because, after being gone for 11 years, his good friend Capt. Rich Gray has returned to the First Coast from south Florida. Listen in to find out why Rich called it “cutthroat”, what he thought of the fishing down there, and why he’s so happy to be back.
And you’ll get the weather forecast, of course!
The guys rolled into the studio this week shaking off the cold, rainy morning, and it was a little tough getting things going. But the good news is that bad weather makes for some great conversation. Lucky for you, when it comes to Kevin, Kirk and Jeff, they’re as good at conversation as they are at fishing and hunting.
Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week: Easy DIY fishing rod rack stand. Get your wood shop friends to donate you some scrap wood. Use 6” wide wood to build a frame around a bunch of 1 1/4” thick wall PVC cut to 6” long. We used five 5’ sections of the PVC to get 50 cut pieces and used 49. Can make as big or as small as you like. Scrap piece of plywood on the bottom to secure.
Here’s your Ring Power CAT tip of the week: Join us LIVE at the Jacksonville Boat Show next Saturday from 7-10am!
