  • Fishing Forecast: The Fun of Fluctuation

Capt. Kevin was out of town doing some OSR (again), so Capt. Chip Wingo joined Capt. Scott to talk about everything happening in First Coast waters this week. The top item on the agenda was the shifting water temps, and the effect it had on the fish; find out how they affected Scott and Chip, and then find out if all that fluctuation fun is going to continue for the next seven days.

  • OS 1196: The Gift of GREAT Outdoors Stories

Capt. Kirk was feeling a bit under the weather, so he checked in from home while Capt. Kevin and Jeff held down the fort for this episode. The weather made the job easy – how beautiful can it get for all of us who love the outdoors?!?

Seems like Santa stopped by the First Coast early, gifting us with some amazing fishing and hunting opportunities. Not only did all the guys have some stories, but so did the callers. When the weather is right, times are good…and the stories are great!

Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week: I know we don’t always think about cobia fishing this time of year… but it can be excellent. There are lots of cobia on the deep water offshore wrecks. The best method of fishing for them is deep jigging. You can use any heavy jig but the Alien Jig is one of the best! Available at Strike-Zone Fishing Jacksonville!

Here’s your @Kirbyco Builders Inc. cooking tip of the week:

    Turkey Soup

    Need:

    Leftover Turkey

    Sage

    Olive oil

    Garlic powder

    Salt n Pepper

    Celery

    Carrots

    Onions

    1 container of Chicken/Turkey Broth

Take all the leftover Turkey including the carcass and cover with water. Turn on medium heat and bring to a slight boil. Add the broth. Cut/slice celery, carrots, and onions up and place in 2nd pot with approximately 4 tbs of olive oil and simmer on low heat till vegetables are cooked down. After Turkey has been boiled thoroughly reduce heat and save broth. Pick carcass and cut Turkey in small bite sized chunks returning to the broth. Add 1 tbs garlic powder, 3 tablespoons of sage and veggies to the broth. Let simmer for approximately 45 mins on low heat. Serve and enjoy!

  • Fishing Forecast: Some Wonder-Fall Fishing!

With Capt. Scott feeling a bit under the weather, it was Capt. Kevin and Capt. Ricky who drove the boat this week, and it didn’t take long to start talking about how great the weather has been this fall for fishing.

Get the lowdown on the week that was, as well as the forecast for the week to come!

  • OS 1195: We are Thank-FULL

Jeff was out for some post-Thanksgiving OSR, so Capt. Kevin and Capt. Kirk welcomed in Capt. Leon Dana to a special holiday edition of the show. As you can imagine, there was talk about hunting, talk about fishing, talk about the weather, talk about all kinds of nifty little tips and tricks…but you know there was lots of chatter about food!

Special thanks to RJ, who stepped in on a holiday weekend to produce the show!

Here’s your L.V. Hiers Gear Tip of the Week: Kirk says you shouldn’t believe Kevin – the Bugs Plug Repeller “Flip & Slip Bucket Lid Mouse Trap” is a sure-fire winner!

Here’s your Ring Power CAT tip of the week from Captain Leon Dana: It’s time to talk about the “NoBrainer” again…. With water temperature dropping into the low 60s redfish are now starting to school up. Weather you like to fish mudflats, oyster beds or grass lines this semi weedless rig will produce! With a quarter piece of fresh blue crab you can pitch this rig further than normal rigs allowing you to not spook the fish school. The best part is after pitching the bait just put it in the rod holder!!! It’s a “NoBrainer”! When a redfish picks up the bait he will self hook. All you need to do is pick up the rod and start reeling…. This rig is also great for children… they can do other things like play with the shrimp in the bucket till their rods goes off. Available at Strike Zone and other tackle shops!

Here’s your Kirbyco Builders Inc. cooking tip of the week: We wanted to hear from you…what’s your favorite deer stand snack!? Listen for the guys to share their faves, and check our Facebook page to find out what OS Nation likes to munch on.

Capt. Kevin was back from his EOSR (Extended Outdoors Show Research) in Georgia and Indiana, and boy, did he have some great stories to share. The big question: did he drop a monster? Listen to find out…

Throw in some chatter about a porkfish, greens, boiled peanuts and a bunch of great calls from the OS faithful, and you’ve got another episode for the books.

Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week: The AFW De-Hooker is a must-have to avoid those some nasty injuries…to you and the fish. Get yours at Hagan Ace Hardware for just $20!

  • Fishing Forecast: When the Kev’s Away…

As you most likely know, Capt. Kevin spent the last two weeks on EOSR – Extended Outdoors Show Research. First, he spent some time in Georgia, and then it was off to Indiana; that’s right, it was time to hunt.

So, with Kevin back in the saddle, Capt. Scott was able to catch him up on everything…and torture him with stories about how good the fishing has been the last several days!

But here’s the big question: will it last, or will Old Man Winter come calling before Thanksgiving? Tune in and find out!

  • OS 1193: Monster Elk and Giant Whitetails with Capt. Larry Miniard

Capt. Kevin is in OSR heaven, spending this week hunting in Indiana. So, it was up to Capt. Kirk and Jeff to bring it home. Did they pull it off? Well, you can be the judge.

Capt. Larry Miniard called in with some super stories of his own! He gave us the rundown about his amazing hunting adventures this year, including a tremendous elk hunt in Wyoming, and his most recent excursion: fantastic Illinois deer hunt.

Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week from Jeff: The Groove Belt is simply the best and most comfortable belt I’ve ever had. And it comes in my favorite color. The animals will love your style in the woods.

Here’s your Ring Power CAT tip of the week: Ammunition is not as easy to find these days. Here is a one-stop shop website to help you find what you’re looking for. https://ammoseek.com/

Here’s your Kirbyco Builders Inc. cooking tip of the week, courtesy of Brother Dave:

    Venison Heaven in a Crockpot

Can of beef broth, can of cream of mushroom soup, pack of lipton dry onion soup mix and a little water. Brown the meat in oil after tossing in flour. Cut up onion and bell pepper and fresh sautéed mushrooms. Cook in crock pot 3-4 hrs. Serve over egg noodles or rice.

  • Fishing Forecast: The Nor’Easter Creature Feature

With Capt. Kevin doing some hunt-style OSR and Capt. Ricky filming a movie or something, Capt. Scott called in Capt. Leon Dana to join him in the studio! And as you can guess, they had A LOT to say about what every angler was talking about over the last seven days: the Evil Nor’Easter. Okay, so maybe nobody really called it that, but maybe they should have.

They get into all the dirty details, and give you the upcoming forecast as well.

  • OS 1192: Good Hunt, Bad Fish

This week really turned out to be a contrast of outdoor activity. If you’re into hunting, as Capt. Kevin, Capt. Kirk and Jeff are, it was a great week…especially in Georgia and Pennsylvania (Kirk was doing some OSR up north, remember?) But if you’re an avid angler, Mother Nature dropped a bomb on you this week.

In response, Kevin skipped town…well, to be more accurate, it was his turn to take some deer down in Georgia this week, so he was out of studio. Thankfully, the crew was treated to the company of Capt. Steve Mullen!

Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week: Captain Kirk says he carries Dead downwind Wind Checker every time he hits the woods. Listen in to find out what it is and where to get it.

Here’s your Ring Power CAT tip of the week from Captain Kevin: The weather is getting ready to turn cold. It doesn’t matter if you’re going to spend a day on the water or a cold day in a deer stand. Two of the warmest articles of clothing are: A fitted hoodie and a neck gaiter. Stay warm!

Here’s your Kirbyco Builders Inc. cooking tip of the week: Tillman’s Meats & Country Store pies.

Do yourself a favor and skip the hard work of making and baking a pie for Thanksgiving! Let Tillman’s do it for you! Jeff’s fav is their apple pie. Call ahead to order because they sell out fast! 904-268-1535

  • Fishing Forecast: The Times Are A-Changin’

Capt. Kevin was out to do some OSR – hunting in Indiana, so it was up to Capt. Scott and Capt. Ricky to deliver the bad news…the weather is changing in a BAD way. It’s sounding like fishing will be reserved for the brave, the crazy and the ignorant.

Good thing you won’t be ignorant, because the Captains give you all the info you need to make the decision to stay or go.
