  • OS 1191: Bill Dance and Friends!

Jeff came back after his deer-focused OSR, but Kirk took his turn to head out for some OSR of his own in Pennsylvania. He did call in, though, and shared some cool stories about what he was seeing in the Keystone State.

Of course everybody missed dear old Capt. Kirk, but it wasn’t too bad to be joined by the incomparable Bill Dance. What a ball! Listening to stories about fishing, the history behind his television career, and the lowdown on that signature Tennessee Vols cap, it was an hour-long adventure that nobody wanted to end.

But wait…there’s more! Steve Donalson from the South Atlantic Fishery Management Council joined Capt. Kevin and Jeff to talk about cobia, mackerel, other fishery information, including Amendment 32. If you need some insight about what’s happening in our fisheries, this is a can’t miss episode for you.

Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week: Hunting with a bow requires a good range finder. The Bushnell Prime 1300 is a good one…has an angle range compensation feature, too. Get yours at Bass Pro for $179.

The guys talk about everything they saw and heard about, plus you get the rundown on the forecast as we roll into November.

  • OS 1190: They’ll Let Anybody In Here

Since the Jags had a bye week, Jeff took the opportunity to stay gone in GA for deer season. Well, Capt. Kevin and Capt. Kirk have always believed in the old adage “the more, the merrier”, so they decided to fill the empty chair with the infamous Capt. Leon Dana.

You can only imagine how quickly and how far sideways this thing went.

Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week: When Captain Kirk is practicing with the bow, he uses handy-dandy arrow pullers from Strike-Zone Fishing Jacksonville.

Here’s your Ring Power CAT tip of the week: Dr. Dave Edwards says… After a hunt, place your Hot Hands hand warmers in a zip lock bag. Push all the excess air out and you can pull them out the next day. Just shake ’em and they will heat right back up!!

  • Fishing Forecast: Fronts and Forgetfulness

Lots of question marks floating around the First Coast these days, with a promising Thursday not quite living up to expectations and a big front poised to come in. Regardless, the boys were busy – Capt. Kevin, Capt. Scott and Capt. Ricky all had a lot to talk about. Especially Capt. Kevin, who had some ‘splainin to do about a charter he came VERY close to missing.

Get the story, along with the forecast, of course, in this fun episode.

  • OS 1189: Fishing, Hunting and Getting Shanked

Jeff was a lucky man this week: the Jags were in London, but due to restrictions, he didn’t have to fly across the pond. Next, the London game lined up perfectly with the first day of gun in Georgia. So, as a result, he didn’t make it to the studio. Surprise, surprise.

But never fear…Capt. Scott was here! Capt. Scott Shank stepped up and joined Capt. Kevin and Capt. Kirk to crank up the fishing talk like nobody’s business. And if that wasn’t enough, Capt. Scott unwittingly served as the catalyst for creating a new OS term – listen to find out what it means to “get shanked”.

Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week: The Bulls are running good Right now so be sure to have a good venting needle.

Here’s your Ring Power CAT tip of the week: I know we do this about every year this time but now is the time to dedicate a few trail cams to scrapes. Right now the bucks are marking their territory. One tip is don’t put the camera too close to the scrape. Do your best to hide it!

Here’s your Kirbyco Builders Inc. cooking tip of the week:

  • Fishing Forecast: Hollywood Returns

Captain Ricky, or “Hollywood” as Capt. Kevin and Capt. Scott now call him, made his return to the studio after a whirlwind, world-wide media tour. Actually, Kevin and Scott had a lot of fun at Ricky’s expense, which will most definitely give you a chuckle…especially Scott’s rundown of the alleged Jerry Springer episode (yeah, we know Jerry Springer hasn’t had a show on TV for about ten years, but don’t tell Scott – he was rolling).

Of course, the guys quit messing around and got down to business – the fishing business – talked about the week that was and provided the forecast for the week to come as well. If they didn’t, it’d be kind of tough to call it the “Fishing Forecast”, right?

  • OS 1188: The Best of Both Worlds

Capt. Kirk was out of the studio this week doing some OSR in South Dakota for his annual pheasant trip, so Fishing Forecast co-host Capt. Scott Shank joined Capt. Kevin and Jeff for the morning’s festivities. It was another great episode of fishing and hunting talk, some fun stories, and lots of laughs to boot.

Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week from Captain Kevin: I’ve used Cajun Thunder corks for years and absolutely love them. I have been using a new float with a different shape and it seems to out fish the Cajun! Its called a Bay Slayer. It is more concave shaped and makes a great “bloop” sound when worked correctly!

Here’s your Ring Power CAT tip of the week: The combination of the muddy safety harness and the lifeline will keep you alive to hunt tomorrow! https://huntersafetysystem.com/collections/lifelines-manual

Here’s your Kirbyco Builders Inc. cooking tip of the week: Terry Bradshaw’s Ribs and Beans

Former NFL quarterback, hall of fame inductee, and current FOX NFL SUNDAY co-host Terry Bradshaw says, “When I get the chance to stay home and watch football, I love to spend it with my family, and when my family is together, we love to barbeque. The men do all the cooking and we use disposable foil cooking pans for quick and easy clean up. Plus, there is always leftovers to send home with friends and family.”

Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week: Kirk got this to Carry in his 4 wheeler in case he needs it for something. It’s the SOL Packable Field Shovel, just $29.95 on Amazon.

Here’s your Ring Power CAT tip of the week: The oak trees are raining acorns right now. If you want to see deer you need to do a little scouting and find where the deer are feeding. Most of the time deer will step over a corn pile to feed on acorns!

  • Fishing Forecast: Ending On The Upswing

It’s no secret that, just like every other month, September has been simply screwy, with weird weather, finicky fish, and twisted temperatures and tides (we call that alliteration, boys and girls!). Here’s the important thing: September ended on a bit of a high note, with things settling in nicely and First Coast anglers hooking up with a bunch of great fish.

Listen in to find out all the details on how things ended up, and more importantly, if the weather’s going to set the stage for the upswing to continue in October.
