It was just Capt. Kevin and Capt. Scott this week, as Capt. Ricky was down with…well, you know. But even though he couldn’t make it to the studio, Wahoo Ricky didn’t let being sick get in the way of going after some wahoo – be sure to listen and find out how things went.
As for the forecast…yuk. Just yuk. But will it improve? Listen to find out…
It was all about fishing this week, with all kinds of stories, tips, tricks and laughs. One of the biggest stories – Jeff and Kirk talked about their fun trip! As a matter of fact, the only un-fun thing the guys talked about was the weather. We’ve got some NASTY stuff coming this week, courtesy of Mother Nature.
Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week: Keep 5 gallon buckets in place on your boat with the Bucket Base! https://shurhold.com/products/bucket-base
Here’s your Ring Power CAT tip of the week from Captain Leon Dana: Spray some silicone lubricant every few weeks on your TM shaft. It stops it from sticking and makes deploying your TM much easier!
Here’s your Kirbyco Builders Inc. cooking tip of the week from Captain Kirk: The best collards you’ll ever eat! Check out the recipe on our Facebook page.
Capt. Kevin was back from a trip to North Carolina to check up on the guys building his new boat! It’s a full-on custom job, and there’s a lot of exciting stuff happening on that front.
Exciting isn’t exactly the term the captains would use to talk about the charter business these days, however. Why, you ask? Well, listen in and they’ll fill you in…and they’ll hook you up with the forecast for the upcoming week as well.
After being split up last week due to various illnesses, the boys were back in the studio to get things going again. Didn’t take long for Jeff and Kevin to start talking about hunting and what was – or more accurately wasn’t – happening in the woods.
But it wasn’t just hunting – there was A LOT of fishing talk, and rightly so…the fishing never really ends, does it?
Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week: Seems like a growing number of First Coast anglers are now using a particular kind of jig for sheepshead? Listen and find out what it is, why they’re using them, and what the boys think about them!
Here’s your Ring Power CAT tip of the week: Join Jeff, Captain Kirk and Captain Kevin at the 7th annual Walter ‘Chuck’ Foster sporting clay shoot on Thursday February 17th at Jacksonville Clay Target Sports. https://angelwoodjax.org/sporting-clay-shoot/
Here’s your Kirbyco Builders Inc. cooking tip of the week: Captain Kirk loves to Rub-A-Dub this on his prime rib! You can find it at Hagan Ace Hardware $6.99
With Capt. Kevin out of the “office”, it was Capt. Scott and Capt. Ricky who took the helm for the first episode of 2022.
When you combine the holidays with unseasonably warm temps and clear skies, you have to deal with, well…more people – and some of whom aren’t exactly ramp and reg savvy. The guys talk about it, about the fishing they did enjoy, and of course, they talk about the weather that was and what will be over the next seven days.
Happy New Year!
The guys kicked off 2022 in spectacular fashion – Jeff was in the studio, Kevin was at home getting over a cold, and Kirk was at home getting over COVID. But not to worry – they’re on the mend, and they were ready to talk outdoors.
By outdoors, we mean fishing – the weather was perfect for a rod, and terrible for a rifle. It was great to be on the water, but as for being up in a stand…not so much. Listen in for all the stories, including Jeff’s maiden voyage on his new kayak. On top of that, callers brought all kinds of interesting questions and conversations, and Top Gun started off the year with a great one.
Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week from Captain Kirk: Use that Christmas stocking money to get a Silver Stag filet knife. Go to www.silverstag.com for prices and info.
Here’s your Ring Power CAT tip of the week from Captain Kevin: I know we don’t think about catching Bull reds this time of year but we are. Not your typical places in the rivers but on the near shore wrecks off Jacksonville and St. Augustine. So if you’re fishing one of the wrecks this weekend soak a piece of cut bait and hang on!
Here’s your Kirbyco Builders Inc. cooking tip of the week: Lucky soup for the new year! Just incorporate your favorite sausage. Head to our Facebook page to get the complete recipe.
Capt. Kevin, Capt. Scott and Capt. Ricky wave goodbye to 2021 on the heels of an amazing week for fishing here on the First Coast! Get all the details and the 2022 forecast right here.
Between the hunting, the traveling, the sickness and the traffic, it seems like forever since Capt. Kevin, Capt. Scott, Capt. Ricky and Producer Matt were able to get together to deliver a fantastic show for you. Well, consider this one an early Christmas gift!
The real question is this: will Mother Nature be passing out the presents this week, or will First Coast anglers get some lumps of coal in their cast nets? Listen in to find out…
This really is the most wonderful time of the year, because we get to spend it together! This year, the whole crew – Capt. Kevin, Capt. Kirk, Jeff and even OS Producer Chris – came out for a special yuletide show at Hagan Coastal Outfitters/Hagan Ace Hardware in Mandarin. But they weren’t alone…HUNDREDS of OS faithful joined them for good times, good food from Metro Diner and a bunch of great giveaways courtesy of HCO/HAH.

Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week: Jeff says this is an amazing landing net! Great Christmas gift. Check it out here
Here’s your Ring Power CAT tip of the week: This is a great time of year to have your fishing gear worked on or give it away to charity. If you have some fishing equipment that still works but you don’t use anymore think about charities. If you want to have it fixed call Willie!! 708-FISH!
Here’s your KirbyCo Builders, Inc Cooking Tip of the Week, courtesy of OS Producer Chris:
Roger’s Grilled Turkey
It’s important to cook with indirect heat vs direct heat for large items like whole chicken, whole Turkey, or roast.
Prepare the turkey and season as usual. A lightly seasoned butter injection works well with grilled turkey.
1. Create two beds of charcoal on opposite sides of the charcoal grate and leave a wide area open in middle. In the open area, place a large disposable aluminum pan. Use a non-stick spray on the grill grate. Place the turkey on the grill grate over the wide open area, over the top of the large disposable pan. This ensures indirect heat and convection grilling, and the pan will catch the large amount of drippings from the turkey. If you are careful in replacing charcoal, the drippings can be used for gravy, etc…
2. Once every hour, add 8-10 briquettes to each bed of charcoal. This ensures consistent heat for the duration of the cool. Drop the briquettes into the grill gently so they don’t send ashes onto the turkey or into the drip pan. At hour 1 and 2, baste the turkey when dropping in extra briquettes.
3. Cook the turkey until a thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the thigh (not touching the bone) reads 175*F. The breast should read 165*F
Let stand for about 30 mins (covered with aluminum foil), carve, and enjoy!
Capt. Kevin was out of town for this week’s episode, so Jeff and Capt. Kirk called in a local celebrity – Capt. Paul Dozier, founder of the Old School Fishing Shootout and Northeast Florida Wahoo Shootout! As you can imagine, there was some great fishing talk…especially considering the crazy good fishing weather we’ve been experiencing.
And of course, with Christmas coming, the guys talked out some great gift ideas for the outdoors lover.
Finally, you can’t afford to miss the special yuletide gift from Top Gun!

Muffin Pan Pizza
Muffin pan
Pizza Dough( Publix)
Pizza Sauce (Publix)
Pepperoni ( Venison Sausage works)
Mozzarella Cheese
Olive oil
Coffee mug
Take the muffin pan and lightly coat with olive oil to keep dough from sticking. Roll the premade pizza dough from Publix into a thin sheet. (flour on the surface will keep it from sticking) Use the coffee mug to cut circles out in the dough. Place a circle of dough in each muffin tin hole. Add a tablespoon of pizza sauce , add a generous portion of cheese and then add your desired Portion of pepperoni or sausage if you prefer. Bake at 325 for approximately 15 minutes being careful not to burn it. Serve
Note: Bbq sauce can be substituted as can cooked chicken to make bbq chicken pizza
