  • The Panel with Ali Jones and Mark Knoff-Thomas (Part 1)
New Zealand First is in the spotlight today over a contract MPs have signed that will require them to pay a fine if they are expelled or resign from caucus. The party's leader Winston Peters has confirmed all his MPs have signed up to the clause which states they will have to pay $300,000 if they leave the party - but stay on in Parliament. Mr Peters also claims National Leader Simon Bridges tried to poach MP Ron Mark. We speak to Law Professor Andrew Geddis about why he finds this concerning. The Prime Minister and Infrastructure Minister Shane Jones announced today the establishment of a new independent infrastructure entity. It's hoped the new agency in place by late during 2019. The panelists discuss whether this is a reboot of the old Ministry of Works, and what needs to be doen to fix the problems in the industry. American media has hit back at attacks from President Trump. More than 300 news outlets launched a campaign to promote free press to counter the jibes from Mr Trump. The Boston Globe put out the call last week using the hastag "EnemyOfNone". Mr Trump has responded to the campaign calling "the fake news media" the opposition. The panelists discuss. What's in your fridge? Apparently some things shouldn't be in there. From tomatoes, to coffee and garlic, there are certain rules around what should be in the fridge and what should be in the pantry. • The Panel with Ali Jones and Mark Knoff-Thomas (Part 2)
She was the first woman to be inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame in 1987; and Rolling Stone magazine ranked her as the Greatest Artist Of All Time. What the Panelists Ali Jones and Mark Knoff-Thomas want to talk about. There's been outrage after a straight man was cast as Disney's first gay film character. Some say the role should have gone to an actual gay man but others believe any representation is a cause for celebration. Should Hollywood be trying to boost the careers of those minorities they seek to represent? The panelists discuss. Vermont democrats have chosen transgender woman Christine Hallquist as their candidate for governor. It's the first time a major party has nominated a trans person for the role. She'll be up against the incumbent, republican Phil Scott, this November. She tells The Panel she is part of a wave of change, inspired by the current political climate. The number of New Zealanders taking antipsychotics went up almost 50 per cent between 2008 and 2015. European women over 65 were the highest users, followed by Maori men between 25 and 44. But there's no evidence rates of psychosis have increased, leading the study authors to suspect off-label prescribing is going on. The panelists give their view on whether this is a concerning trend. A solid white mass was discovered in an Egyptian tomb from the 13th century BC is believed to be the world's oldest cheese. Studies found the mass contained proteins from cow milk, and sheep or goat milk. But unfortunately it aged a bit too long, scientists found evidence of a potentially deadly bacteria in the sample. We ask the panelists what's the weirdest thing they've ever eaten.
