PETA Sr. VP Dan Mathews talks about paying his respects to George Floyd by recently attending the memorial that took place in Floyd's hometown of Fayetteville, North Carolina. Mathews, openly gay, saw it as an opportunity to link arms and show solidarity between all the issues he cares about animal rights, gay rights.and the fight for racial justice.
Mathews also talks about his new book coming out about his mother. The conversation took place before the Supreme Court landmark ruling that declared that LGBTQ people were protected from employment discrimination on the basis of sexuality or gender.

After Katherine Roe and two of her fellow PETA scientists paid a visit to UMass Amherst about its cruel monkey experiments, the university went from enthusiastic to silent. The school would rather hang on to their federal grants worth millions--even if the science--based on animals--is unlikely to be of benefit to humans. Roe, the new director of the Science Advancement and Outreach Division talks with Emil Guillermo about the UMass Amherst case, and how it's an advantage when real scientists are leading the battle for change.

Hall of Fame Horse Trainer Bob Baffert is seen by many as the "face of horse racing." But after an unpredictable win at the Kentucky Derby, Baffert's horse, Medina Spirit, failed a drug test and was shown to have an illegal steroid in his blood. Now Baffert and the entire gambling sport has been shamed and placed under a cloud.
The drug scandal is just the latest for Baffert, who has had more than 30 horses fail drug tests in his extensive career.
PETA Sr. VP Kathy Guillermo continues to pressure the industry to stop the abuses of horses by trainers. She explains the latest scandal and what it could mean for racing, which has already shrunk in half since PETA's Equine Matters campaign began more than ten years ago.

Looking for cruelty-free cosmetics and need a reputable list? Kathy Guillermo, PETA Sr.VP on Laboratory Investigations, knows. She has spent more than 30 years leading the cruelty-free cosmetics campaign at PETA. While most companies have stopped testing on animals, the issue continues to evolve as China still requires testing that impacts hundreds of thousands of animals.
Still, PETA knows which companies are reputable. PETA's Beauty without Bunnies app has the most reliable database to guide consumers looking for cosmetics not tested on animals.

By Capt. Paul Watson's count there are 56 orcas being held in concrete prisons. And 163 who have died over the years. After 50 years at sea saving marine mammals, Watson's written a new book that essentially registers all the animals who are currently enslaved by amusement parks like Sea World. He talks about what's being done and how you can help, simply by not going to SeaWorld. In conversation with Emil Guillermo.
Watson's book. co-authored by Tiffany Humphrey is "Orcapedia," published by Groundswell Books.

The problem with the Animal Welfare Act is an amendment attached to it in 2002 that could be an illegal "bill of attainder." This is legislation that declares an entire class of guilty without a fair trial. The Constitution forbids such things. Was the so-called Helms Amendment to the Animal Welfare Act--which banned animals like birds, rats, and mice from protection--a "bill of attainder"? PETA Foundation attorney Asher Smith thinks so and has filed a federal lawsuit that could end the cruel use of thousands of animals used in experimentation.

Jason Baker, Sr. VP in charge of PETA Asia, talks to Emil Guillermo about the latest in Asia. PETA investigators exposed the skin trade in pythons and how they literally inflated to death. Baker provides an update on the monkey used to fetch coconuts in Thailand. Consumers should support monkey-free coconut milk from other countries. And more than a year ago, PETA saved animals from the Taal area after the volcano erupted. It is rumbling and appears to be threatening to erupt again. All while the Philippines has begun an official lockdown due to Covid.
