Najee Harris joined Mike Florio this morning recapping his first season in Pittsburgh. The guys broke it down and gave their thoughts. 

Former NFL GM turned Audacy NFL insider Michael Lombardi joined the show. Michael is shocked at the comparisons made between Malik Willis, Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes. He said none of the QBs in this draft look like a “franchise guy.” He thinks Matt Corral has the best hope, but has a lot of injury concerns. Michael said Kenny Pickett was a really good college quarterback, but he sees him as a career backup. Michael gave a shout out to Al Davis and said he’d love Jordan Davis. He said nobody in the draft will be able to block Davis and he could be a true difference maker. Michael pointed to the wide receiver position and said it is a deep enough position in the draft that would be easy to find someone in the second or third round. Trevor Penning is a player Michael really likes, but he doesn’t see him being available at 20th overall. Michael wouldn’t feel good about paying Diontae Johnson top dollar at this point.

NFL scouts and executives have spoken off the record about the 2022 QB class. Those people believe Malik Willis has to fall into a secure situation, like the Steelers, where he doesn’t have to start right away. With the Wonderlic tests coming out, Willis recorded the highest score of the potential first round QBs. Comps to Willis have been made to Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen. He thinks Tomlin prefers Willis if he had to guess. Ed got into the Georgia defensive players that will go in the opening round of the draft. The guys then asked the Baker Mayfield hypothetical. Ed was adamant that if Mason Rudolph really was the answer, Ben Roethlisberger wouldn’t have been back last year. The guys asked if safety or wide receiver would be the pick at 20 and Ed said the Steelers won’t pay Diontae Johnson so the pick is easy. 

The guys name draft prospects and make a simple yes/no determination.

Todd McShay of ESPN thinks Malik Willis to the Steelers is a match made in Heaven. The guys debated if Willis is worth the pick at 20 or if the Steelers will trade up and make a splash in Kevin Colbert’s last draft as the team’s general manager. 

Steve Palazzalo of Pro Football Focus joined the show. Off the bat, the guys asked Steve what mold Jordan Davis fits in to. Steve said he’s concerned where Davis will fit into a defense, saying he can be a successful player, but he isn’t as consistent as you would like. He said Davis has a lot of questions as a football player, but still thinks he’s a top 20-25 player. Steve still likes Malik Willis to the Steelers the most of any QB because he thinks there is a mutual love between both parties. Between Willis at 20, Sam Howell at 52 or Carson Strong at 84, Steve would still take Willis in the first round due to his upside. However, if it came down to trading up to 10th for Willis or staying at 20th and taking Desmond Ridder, Steve would side with keeping your picks and taking Ridder.

The NFL has announced the schedule will be released on May 12 and the boys are excited about it.

Poni claimed a big name player is off the Steelers draft board. That name is Devonte Wyatt, the ‘other’ Georgia defensive tackle along with Jordan Davis. Wyatt has a trespassing charge, which brings up obvious red flags. The guys looked back to some examples of players in trouble with the law that the Steelers kept around, but the difference – those players were already on the roster before any trouble arose. The guys then got into some trouble they avoided or didn’t avoid in their college years. 

The deadline for 5th-year options for the 2019 NFL Draft class and the guys debated if Devin Bush will receive it.
