Kenny Pickett’s hand size is the big debate of the day around the NFL Combine. The guys don’t think it’s anywhere close to being as big of a deal as the league is making it out to be. Poni is mad that the national media is making fun of Kenny and his hands. He thinks it won’t matter – Kenny will still be a good NFL QB. 

Pirates insider Jason Mackey joined the guys to talk about where baseball is at right now. He shared his frustration with the league and negotiations – and what he might do with the delay of the season. He gave insight on a Bryan Reynolds rumored trade that took place last year with the Marlins. The guys asked Jason when baseball will be played this year and what we might see out of this Pirates roster. Jason also had a funny story about Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead to start the interview.

He got into the words from Malik Willis and how his humility is different from what he’s used to hearing from other QBs. He said Matt Corral is another QB people are very excited to watch this week.

Malik Willis had his turn to answer media questions today at the combine. He was honest about how he would fit in with the Steelers, saying he doesn’t know how the fit would be. He said footwork is his main thing to work on as he gets set to enter the NFL. Jeff was convinced that he was told to no-sell his answers. Willis also added that he wasn’t a huge football fan growing up – mentioning names like Michael Vick and Russell Wilson as two guys he paid attention to.

John has covered 2,500-3,000 games in his career and thinks it could be more, but baseball’s status is emotionally draining him. He said if the owners don’t care, why should he? And why should any fan care? John got the feeling this time that the owners think once they open the gates, the fans will return, but he doesn’t think that will actually happen the way they expect. He also talked about the competitive balance issues in the game and why it’s frustrating for Pirates’ fans. John expects the lockout to drag on and just hopes by Memorial Day we can see regular season baseball.

The professor, John Clayton joined the guys to talk about some available QBs this off-season. John talked about the Jimmy G injury that resulted in a recent surgery, Kirk Cousins’ availability, and why Garoppolo compares to Chad Pennington. John said around the league it’s not looking good for teams that need quarterbacks and highlighted Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota as the top two. John made the comparison between Malik Willis and Lamar Jackson and if Willis can get to Jackson’s level. Clayton added what he thinks Kevin Colbert will do going into his final draft. John also had confidence that teams will take Kenny Pickett’s hand size into account. 

The MLB season is officially delayed with the first two series of the season being canceled. Rob Manfred was all laughs at his press conference yesterday. The guys broke down some of his comments and the plethora of issues around the league. Is the sport going so downhill so quickly that there’s no turning back? Poni and Jeff both said the excitement for them is barely there anymore and if anything, it’s more about how it impacts their working lives.
