Hour 4: It looks like we have another battle between the national and local media on what the Steelers will do with the quarterback position. The Steelers insiders are poo pooing every outside QB that could be available and are pushing a narrative that Mason Rudolph will be back. What would it take for Rudolph to come back? Why would he want to? If the Rudolph thing was going to happen, why aren’t the Steelers openly talking to him right now before free agency sets in? Wouldn’t it create an awkward situation for Kenny Pickett and the rest of the locker room? How would the guys feel if that actually happened?
93.7 The Fan Sports Director Jeff Hathhorn joined the show. Jeff doesn’t agree with the idea of bringing Mason Rudolph back because of the tension it could cause in the Steelers facility. Jeff said Rudolph really wants to see what’s out there and doesn’t expect him to come back with his tail between his legs like last season. Jeff doesn’t buy into the idea that the Steelers would take a 1st round QB to put added pressure on Kenny Pickett. How stiff will the QB competition be? Does Justin Fields have the potential to take off with the Steelers even though he didn’t in Chicago? Jeff would side with Fields, citing his big play ability and potential.
Kevin Colbert downplayed the importance of analytics around the NFL. Is it fair to criticize Colbert for how his final years were as the Steelers GM? Is it a bad thing when front office members have too much of an emotional connection to a player? We also got Valentine’s Day advice from Paul Zeise.
