To end of our Black History Month series, we are joined by Fariba Al-Hassan and Nikayda Harris, third year students studying Public Affairs and Policy Management at Carleton University. Fariba and Nikayda are the co-presidents of BSPA Carleton: the Black Students in Public Affairs club on Carleton's campus. They joined us to discuss why they created BSPA, their experiences as Black students in PAPM, the importance of representation for Black students in the public affairs sphere, and their hopes for the future of both BSPA and public affairs.

Uzoma is currently a Member of the Legislative Assembly in Manitoba for Union Station. They made history in 2019 for being the first Black, queer MLA in Mantioba's history. They joined us to talk about their journey getting into politics, some of the challenges they deal with in the Manitoba legislature, and the importance of representation for all voices especially Black people in Canadian politics both federally and provincially.

We are joined by Tinu Akinwande and Pascal Adesina who are not strangers to the podcast and are recent university graduates. Tinu earned her Bachelors in Political Science with a concentration in Public Affairs and Policy Analysis with a double major in African Studies from Carleton University and Pascal earned his Bachelors in Justice, Political Philosophy and Law and a minor in Linguistics from McMaster University. In this episode, we discuss black love relating to familial, platonic, and self love. We have a raw conversation on how our upbringing affected our perception of love, our own self love journeys as young Black people, and what love truly is.

This week's guest is Tiana Thomas, a fourth year student at Carleton University who is working on Carleton's campus to raise awareness to sexual violence and sexual assault specifically proposing a sexual violence prevention program and collaborating to create Expressions of Empowerment which is an art exhibit in honour of Sexual Assault Awareness Month. We dive in more in her work and how she started, how toxic masculinity plays a role into sexual violence, and the importance of aiming to be sustainable in your everyday life.

Elevated Canada is a non-profit that aims to end homelessness and BlacksInPower is a space to empower black people while educating people about the Black community.
