Our initial interactions with others are critical in shaping our relationships and building trust. They determine whether someone sees you with the “Halo Effect” – where one positive characteristic spotted inspires the belief that there are many other positive behaviors and traits, or the “Horns Effect” – where one negative trait spotted leads to the conclusion that there are other negative traits and behaviors lurking beneath the surface. Because we weigh initial information more heavily than later information, first impressions are KEY!
We’ll talk about the 4 most important things to implement when making a first impression and having that first conversation, as well as why it is important to focus not on what you say, but how you make someone feel.
