  • The Magic of Mindset With Stevie Kidd

John chats with serial entrepreneur, author and coach Stevie Kidd. With experience leading several different businesses from startup to seven figures and a comprehensive understanding of what it takes to succeed, Stevie discusses the priceless role of mindset to acquire your true potential in all aspects of your life. John asks him about himself and his work with his clients.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • Stevie works with clients over a two year period and at the end of that period he is able to assess who they are and if they will be able to reach their chosen goals.
    • Using the strength of his own support network Stevie builds closeness and rapport with his clients to facilitate engagement.
    • Pace is very important in the clients journey. Stevie is careful not to hurry, pushing beyond the level that the client is comfortable with.
    • There is nothing Stevie won’t do to motivate his client to make improvements, even presenting them with the inevitability of their own death.
    • When approaching relationships with others the first goal must be self understanding, and this is a long term ongoing effort.
    • Stevie has written three books ; “The 1% Mindset : The Stevie Kidd Pathway”, “How To Go From Being A Non-Runner To Climbing Kilimanjaro and Running A Marathon A Day Later” and “How To Run The Third Hardest Marathon In The World – From A Non-runner.”

    BEST MOMENTS

‘My life has brought me to this point that the business itself is designed in a two year frame of taking an individual to get them to assess and understand where they came from to where they are. In that two year journey they’ll absolutely discover how far they can go.’ – Stevie

‘The most important part of supporting any human being is..I’m an entrepreneur and a coach but I’m also coached, and with the people that support me, I have to build rapport with the people who are supporting me or I’ll never get off the blocks.’ - Stevie

‘By allowing him that space to talk and explore you’ve enabled him to create where he is right now in his head, but actually motivated to the space he wants to get to and he’s gone away with all that energy knowing that he’s now created something in his own head that he’ll be aiming towards’ – John

‘I then became aware of how to master emotions. That’s why I’m obsessed with stillness and orchestrating my senses.’ – Stevie

  • Interview With Nadija Bajrami, R C Hyp, Dip Hyp, Mind Coach & Psychic-Medium

John chats with Nadija Bajrami, a Dublin based award winning empowerment specialist, mind coach and psychic medium. In 2021 she was included in the Brainz Magazine Top 500 Award for outstanding entrepreneurs and business owners and is also Hypnotherapist of the Year 2021/22 Dublin in The Republic of Ireland Prestige Awards. John and Nadija discuss how she became an empowerment specialist, the power of the mind, dealing with loss as a child, relationships and learning to say ‘no’.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • After losing her father as a child Nadija took on the role of care giver to everyone around her. This is how she developed her skills as counsellor to others. After a health crisis, Nadija changed from a corporate career to hypnotherapy.
    • Nadija’s family experiences shaped her life including the loss of her father and the influence of her brother who, as a coach himself, taught her the power of the mind and the freedom to choose the right path to make herself happy.
    • In being a ‘fixer’ and feeling she needed to protect others from harm, Nadija created codependent relationships where her partners relied on her for their emotional needs.
    • Hypnotherapy was incredibly helpful to Nadija as a therapy which led her to become a practitioner.

    BEST MOMENTS

‘Meeting different cultures really gave me a very nice taste of helping people. Whatever the culture is, wherever you go people always need someone to talk to.’ - Nadija

‘When you work with someone you see what they are bringing to you rather than having a specific approach you can then tailor all of your expertise, all of the things you know, to give them the best service possible.’ – John

‘I had that feeling of ‘I need to fix peoples life’. I need to help them in case something happens to them.’ – Nadija

‘So I said ‘go and fix yourself. Stop the pattern.’ – Nadija

‘In the past I had big problems saying ‘no’ because ‘no’ was, they need me, I cannot say ‘no’’ – Nadija

‘Actually if someone’s not reciprocating or  someone’s not appreciative of the fact that you’re there for them what do you do with those now?’ - John

  • Weaponized Incompetence

Do you find yourself doing things for those that claim that you are more suitable for the task than they are? Or perhaps you find yourself passing off jobs to others because “they can do it better than you”? A common manipulation is to claim incompetence within relationships to achieve the relinquishing of responsibility. John discusses this and details the methods and effect this situation can have on relationships.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • There are two types of incompetence, the first being weaponized incompetance and the second, malicious incompetance.
    • Weaponized incompetence is pretending to be incompetent as an excuse or a “get out”. You may see examples of this when your partner doesn’t want to complete a chore and does a bad job so they don’t get asked again.
    • Malicious incompetence is when it is used to deliberately irritate, manipulate and  manoeuvre the other party.
    • An imbalance in shared tasks can cause long term resentment so it is best to discuss the behaviour to try to resolve the situation.

    BEST MOMENTS

‘A good example of someone feigning incompetence recently is Boris Johnson and the whole party gate debacle. So for Boris to suggest that he was unaware as to whether he was breaking the law or not, to most seemed like a very flimsy excuse, but to others it could appear to be a legitimate reason why he attended several parties during the pandemic lockdown.’

‘It’s a passive aggressive way of getting someone to do something you really just don’t want to do.’

‘A child may also have witnessed this in their parents' relationship. Seeing that one will shirk responsibility and get away with it.’

‘If you think that you may have high expectations and so this is something you perceive  to be happening rather than a real problem, then speak to a non judgemental honest friend, colleague or someone you trust, as you may be placing too much pressure on someone to be as you need them to be.’

  • When Are Suicidal Thoughts a Positive Thing ?

This episode's guest is clinical hypnotherapist and transformation coach, Marcus Matthews. He helps people suffering from anxiety and PTSD improve their self esteem and confidence without the long term use of therapy or medication.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • Marcus came to his career after seeking help for suicidal thoughts led him to coaches and the mental health forum.
    • When we are in fight or flight mode we lose our reasoning, logical parts of our minds and refer to our base narratives that we have learned. Marcus helps people learn about themselves and discard old programmed behaviours based on old information and act and behave from new attitudes and behaviours.
    • Our brains love familiarity and will resist change so the process can be difficult. Positive affirmations work if you back them up with evidence. Unfortunately, we have to make the leap before we see the result.
    • 80% of who we are is built by the time you are 8 years old. By the time you come to the age of 35 this starts to strain.
    • Lessons we learn as we grow, such as vulnerability is weakness, need to be disproved and discarded for new knowledge to be resolved.

    BEST MOMENTS

‘That’s my big thing, helping people understand that things like anxiety, PTSD and suicide are not actually that bad, They’re good.’ - Marcus

‘We believe that all of the answers are outside us and they’re not. I think great coaches, great therapists don’t tell you what to do, they allow you to find those answers yourself. So that’s kind of my mission..’ – Marcus

‘We look at meaning rather than the thought itself. What meaning do you give to the thought that creates the emotional reaction within you?’ – John

‘I help you to create the environment where you can start to heal that break.’ - Marcus

‘When you can sit in the darkness of fear and know that everything is ok then that’s fine. When you actually look at fear it's never the thing, it’s the thought of the thing that drives the fear.’ – Marcus

  • Finding The Balance of Power

Every environment that you are in creates its own hierarchy of power and within relationships it can dictate how you feel and the level of control that you have. There are five bases of power in every psychological power dynamic no matter where you are or situation that you are in. Recognising power dynamics prepares you to be able to decide how much power you have, how much you hand over and how you can overcome the control others have over you.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • Reward power. When someone has something you want from them.
    • Coercive power. Utilising punishment, common in abusive relationships.
    • Expert power. This is deference to others due to their knowledge or skill.
    • Legitimate power. Power which is granted by position and rank. This can also be linked to expert power, but rather than coming from your respect for their knowledge, it comes directly granted by structure.
    • Referent power. This is when someone desires what someone else has. For instance, someone who desires a physique, social position or income of someone else and often wants to be close to and different to that person.

    BEST MOMENTS

‘Understanding power has a much more significant purpose. It allows you to reflect and understand why you listen to certain people and allow them to hold power over you.’

‘It depends entirely on how much expertise you think someone has and how much that you think they have more than you.’

‘Ignoring legitimate power can come with risk but it only works in a healthy way if both sides of the dynamic agree that it works for both sides.’

  • How Emotionally Releasing Can Change Your Life

John’s Guest is an emotional release practitioner and self healing expert, specialising in the energetics of mind-body healing. Jen Russman, a New York State resident, helps people clear their emotional blocks and release their energetic attachments to allow full healing of their physical bodies and minds. Trauma is stored in the body and blocks the correct flow of spiritual energy and needs to be cleared to fully realise potential mind and body health.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • When we realise that everything is energy and that trauma itself is an energy, we realise that these emotions have not been properly cycled out of the body.
    • Carrying enough trauma can cause dysfunction in the body resulting in emotional imbalance, physical pain and illness.
    • Emotional blocks effect all areas of our lives from personal relationships,  work relationships, personal resilience and physical wellness.
    • Jen recalls the experiences that caused her own trauma and her journey in clearing her personal blocks.
    • Jen offers Frequency Meditation called ‘A Return To Love’. This is available by messaging Jen Russman on her website, details below in the shownotes.

    BEST MOMENTS

‘It’s really about, as you know and probably most of your listeners know, that one change of perspective can change everything, right?’ – Jen

‘Looking back now I clearly recognise that it was not just my body falling apart randomly, it was my body’s cry for help. My body had been carrying the weight through cellular memory and through emotional suppression.’ – Jen

‘It was a catharsis, it was a kind of an emotional dump, a release of so many restrictions and things that were holding me back.’ - John

‘It’s energy. The victim; that's energy. Like attracts like when it comes to energy.“ – Jen

‘I kept hearing ‘a return to love’ for 2021 for the collective, but it also ended up being for me as well.’ – Jen

  • Why Some People Won't Apologise

We all have our own ‘apology language’ which denotes the nature and style of the apologies we give and receive. However, there are those who find it very difficult to apologise at all. John explains the reasons why some people find this fairly regular social and relational occurrence so difficult.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • People can feel courageous and less passive if they refuse to offer an apology. They feel they are ‘standing their ground’.
    • Some people cannot deal with being seen as at fault. They see an apology as humiliating.
    • Many are never told they are in the wrong as children so are untrained at being able to navigate an apology scenario. Also, constant humiliating apologies as a child may result in an adult refusing to repeat that experience.
    • The fight, flight or freeze stress response can see them adopting one of these three actions in a confrontational situation, none of which will result in an apology.

    BEST MOMENTS

‘So you’ve probably experienced times when people have found it really hard to say sorry and I know that can actually be quite annoying, upsetting, distressing and difficult to accept.’

‘So they may have seen it modelled, but problems are not resolved. Things just get swept under the carpet. No apologies were ever offered to them, it wasn’t something that ever happened in their lives.’

‘To hold the upper hand in a relationship is crucial to some people because to them it can literally mean their emotional survival. Yes indeed, survival is the right word because those who need to be in control or a position of power will manipulate a scenario in order to maintain a sense of self.’

‘Gaslighting is a term widely used to describe how someone will try to make you responsible for everything and to question your own sanity in order that they can feel exempt themselves from any responsibility.’

  • From Professional Footballer to Metaphysicist

This episode's guest is a former professional footballer who has coached world champions, Hollywood actors, entrepreneurs, CEOs, Olympians and royalty from all over the world on their physical and mental performance. Paul Webb consults with and advises clients on their own spiritual practices using his metaphysical qualifications and knowledge.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • Paul suffered a career ending injury very early in his youth. He found this difficult to accept and traumatic to change roles.
    • Paul started out after his football career coaching as a strengthening and conditioning coach, first in America then back in the UK.
    • Curiosity and coaching took Paul into the area of science and a degree in Quantum Physics but changed to Metaphysics after being inspired by ancient studies and texts from philosophers and theologians. Metaphysics is classed as a religious science in the USA, so when Paul gained his degree he also earned the title Reverend.
    • There is a link throughout human history through some of the world's greatest thinkers that bears resemblance to current Quantum Theory, and metaphysics tackles these areas.
    • To express the best of your creativity you have to be quiet and focused. The peace of your state of mind and positivity will attract positive things to you.

    BEST MOMENTS

‘I built a big and successful fitness business over the course of about 20 years before I sold it to concentrate mostly on metaphysics, spirituality, mind set, and so on. But I still do a couple of days of strength coaching.’ - Paul

‘It was so traumatic for me , John, that it took me a long time to tell people I was a footballer, I just completely blocked it out of my life.’ – Paul

‘I really resonate with that idea of fitness because I had always been fit. I’d always done sports as a kid and then did athletics. And then when I couldn’t pursue my career as an athlete any longer my identity was very much wrapped into sport and keeping fit.’ – John

‘It talks about how reality works. How the very fabric of the universe unfolds and evolves without attaching to any sort of dogma or religious practice.’ - Paul

‘And I always recommend that if you read a book, don’t try to read 100 books a year. Read one book 100 times and contemplate it, study it, get to grips with it.’ - Paul

‘Whilst building relationships with people around you is incredibly affirming and valuable. You have the ability because of books and videos and information, you can build relationships with people that have lived hundreds if not thousands of years ago.’ - Paul

  • Coaching Relational Patterns

John carries out a live coaching session helping Alex to understand how she has built up her own relational patterns, relationship beliefs and attraction style. She is going to be discussing relationships in her own life to try and create a different outcome by implementing change.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • First of all John asks Alex about her previous relationships and the kind of people she usually draws towards herself.
    • Drawing on Alex’s recently ended relationship experience triggered by a period of personal growth, John defines the common occurrence of transformation of self development and the incompatibility it can produce.
    • Parental relationships are discussed to show how Alex’s attitude to partnerships were formed.
    • As the session continues John offers insights into Alex’s relational patterns, explaining repeated habits and the connections to her experiences.
    • In conclusion John explains how Alex can change her habits to perhaps begin to build stronger, different relationships within her life by opening her mind to circumstances she would normally have avoided.

    BEST MOMENTS

‘8 years together. We were engaged for the last year of that too. That for me looking back, I can see why we’re not together and I’m happy that we are not together. But looking back on that I can still see that there were positive aspects of it.’ – Alex

‘That’s quite common in relationships isn’t it? When you get together with somebody as you try and change yourself throughout that journey, they’re quite comfortable with the person you were when you got together. They prefer you to stay in that space.’ – John

‘I’ve never felt a deep and loving connection to either of them. I think really in hindsight there were a lot of mental health problems there between the two of them. A lot of sadness.’ – Alex

‘That maybe explains the relationship that you did have through someone that was very dominant and you were dependent on to function and they ran that relationship. You didn’t have your voice, you followed what they wanted. You can understand why that came to an end when you decided to change that dynamic.’ - John

‘Every time I feel someone that I’ve connected with move away from me it’s like a wound that rips a little deeper each time.’ – Alex

‘Am I going to thank myself for these decisions that I’m making now? I know the answers “no” when it comes to this particular person.’ – Alex

‘You have this dreamy idea about what a relationship could be like and actually relationships can be that dreamy, but I don’t think you really buy into that scenario completely.’ - John

  • The Love Expert With Dr Diana Kirschner

John interviews dating coach, family therapist, author, family business psychologist and all round expert on the properties of love, Dr Diana Kirschner. They discuss her childhood, getting her PhD in Clinical Psychology, finding her ‘fairy godmother’ and finding real, passionate, lasting love.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • Diana was born into a family where she was the fifth girl in a family that only wanted boys. This created difficulties that saw her find solutions and ways of living which she shares with millions today.
    • Her ‘fairy godmother’ was a coach who was a mentor in helping her find the real Diana through all the trauma. He saw her ‘diamond self identity’, your unique inner self and potential.
    • Diana now works with a team of coaches, all trained ‘fairy godmothers’ who are skilled and knowledgeable in leading people through their problems with finding love, and dissolving their negative self identity, to the point of renaming themselves.
    • A really good coach can be internalised like a good parent and become an ever present guiding inner voice. You can have a healthy relationship with your child self through this journey and this will allow you to find your soul mate.

    BEST MOMENTS

‘Well I like sunshine, what can I say. But I love the people, that's part of the reason I was so excited to be on the show today.’ – Diana

‘Out of that I had this sense that  true love had to really exist because the poets must be talking about something. People talk about it, but I had never actually seen it in my very chaotic family.’ – Diana

‘It’s about being able to create that identity of our chosen self, isn’t it?’ – John

‘When I was born my father said ‘Oh, not another girl, I don’t want to go to the hospital” when he heard it was a girl. He didn’t bother visiting. He actually said “I love you” only once to me but he was drunk when he said that.’ – Diana

‘It’s like snowflakes. Each one is completely unique. You are completely unique and completely amazing.’ – Diana

‘That’s the problem I think isn’t it.? A lot of the stuff that we’re brought up with we are taught to think negatives because most of the time we’re not praised. Not given that “well done. That’s great. You’ve done an awesome job there.” A lot of the stuff we experience is all about picking on, we haven’t done a good enough job there,” you could have done better.”’ - John
