  • EP 22: What happens when you put 3 women & a mic together?

What happens when you get three women in the same room, that love to talk and there's a microphone close by.  A spontaneous podcast episode.  Bev and Lora were interviewing me and learning about the Fearlessly Facing Fifty Podcast when we thought, let's do this thing.  Lora and Bev have bene good friends for years, and they decided to take their talents and their passions and start a business that supports all things local, and small business.  It's the "tripadvisor" of Connecticut.  You will hear how their idea to create something special, turned into their reality, and they're having fun navigating their business and life together.

  • EP 21: There is such a thing as estrogen flavored comedy, with Comedian, Anita Renfroe

Anita became an internet sensation when her YouTube video of her singing everything a mother says to her children in a single day to the tune of “The William Tell Overture” in just two minutes and fifty-five seconds was viewed by millions.

Renfroe was featured on morning and late night entertainment and news programs and resulted in her becoming a comedy contributor for GMA.

When I started my podcast, Anita Renfroe was on my bucket list of guests I would love to have on the show, because I saw her perform in 2008 and still reference parts of her routine (and we talk about it on the episode) And I couldn't believe it when I spoke to her assistant and we made it happen.

She is brave, she is funny, and everything she says is what women think in their heads, but don't say out loud.

We talk about how she got her start in comedy, and her first performance, because people kept telling her she was funny....and she thought,...."well maybe I am funny". We talk about the challenges she faced as a female...and is she a Christian who is a comedian, or a Christian comedian....being married to a Pastor....and can a Pastor's wife really be funny....is that okay?

  • EP20: It's okay to make a pivot when you're 50

What do you want to be when you grow up?  How many times were you asked that question?  Of course, my answers were everything from a marine biologist, to a dermatologist, to a talk show host.  There isn't a yellow brick road leading us down a specific path, sometimes we decide to make a pivot.  By definition a pivot is an intentional, step-by-step process that enables you to leave your current job, team, company, or industry and land in a more satisfying place with a promising future.
That's just what my guest, Sally Purcell did at 50.  Having a long time career between Corporate American and Education, she discovered something special.  As she was caring for her aging dad, and his declining health, she found her passion for caregiving.  After leaving her Corporate job, Sally started her career in special education in 2006.  As a teaching assistant, she worked with students with varying disabilities such as the medically fragile, ADHD, Down syndrome, behavioral disorders and Autism/Asperger syndrome.  Her choice to move from the corporate world to education soon became her passion.  For 13 years she integrated her work life with her personal life, spending time outside the school day to support her students in their activities.  In 2019, dissatisfied with the educational environment, Sally left her job to go back to school to earn her Certified Nursing Assistant license and start a new chapter in her life.  She now practices at an Assisted Living Home and is finding an outlet for her care giving passion.
This story is inspiring and empowering for women who get stopped in their tracks thinking it's too late, or they're too old to pursue a passion.  I look forward to hearing your stories that may include a pivot.  Remember, "we haven't peaked yet, we are just getting started."

  • EP 19: Mom is online dating. Now what?

Think about this for a moment.  How would you react if your mom comes to you for online dating advice?  More divorced and widowed baby boomers are using online dating sites, and today's episode digs into those conversations, when the roles are reversed and it's your mom or dad who is heading out into the dating world.  What to do...and what not to do.  My conversation with Kristen Jensen is insightful, and it will make you think about this in a whole different way.  Kristen is a Lifestyle Photographer, who has traveled the world as a model.  She's always been in front of the camera - but she talks about what is was like when that shifted, and she was behind the camera.  She talks openly and honestly about navigating the online dating world with her 79-year-old mom, and shares her experiences with online dating by helping her mom with her online profile, and making sure that she is armed with the tools to take on this challenge with confidence.

  • EP 18: Investing in your future with financial expert, Jean Chatzky

Women have more money and more power than ever before. So let's dig into how we can begin a New Year being more financially savvy. How do we begin to think about investing?  How can I save more money?  When should I start having conversations about money with my kids, or my aging parents?  These are the topics we are talking about in the episode today.  Jean Chatzky, Today Show financial expert and NY Times bestselling author, is my guest, and she will inspire you to think about your finances through a different lens.  Jean launched HerMoney Media and HerMoney.com in 2018 to provide women with information about money they can actually trust.  Jean is an award winning journalist, and is the financial expert on NBC's Today.  She's appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show, MSNBC, CNN, The View, The Talk and many others.  She is the best selling author of eleven books, and is an 'in demand' motivational speaker.  Link to Jean's website are below.  Along with a link to her latest book, Women with Money.  I've also linked my favorite planner, from Erin Condren.  A planner I've used for years and just have to share it.  What better way to jump start the year than being organized.

  • EP 17: Begin again. It's okay to recalculate

When you chart your course, do you feel like there's a map guiding you along the journey? You head to school, get married, have children, find your career and stay the course.  Well as we all know, life doesn't always unravel as you thought it would.  You are heading one direction, and might get caught on a one way road for a bit, but then you recalculate and begin again.  You chart a new course, that involves uncertainty, and worry. You feel anxious and not quite sure how you'll navigate these unchartered waters.  Today, my guest is Niro Feliciano. Niro Feliciano, LCSW is a wife, mom of 4, and a cognitive psychotherapist.  She is the co-founder of Integrative Mental Health and Wellness Group  in Wilton, CT where she has a private practice.  Niro speaks and writes about women, relationships, parenting and anxiety. Niro has written for Today’s Parenting, Her View From Home and Love What Matters and has appeared on Fox61, Pix11 NYC and Cheddar  News.  We will break down the questions you may have around therapy and how it can add value in your life.  We will talk to Niro about her path, and how it shifted in a way she wasn't expecting.  We will discuss the role of her strong faith in guiding her journey, and we dig deep into the expectations that weigh us down as women in today's crazy world.

  • EP15: Finding joy at times of uncertainty

Today's episode is an inspiring journey of a woman who has lived in three different countries, while raising her family.  She has always made time to center herself through yoga and discovered this passion and share it with others.  She is living her best life at 53, and continues to challenge herself and inspire others.  She looks at life after 50 as a new beginning, with more freedom to find yourself and discover joy.

Susan Barber ERYT began her yoga journey 23 years ago when she fell in love with classical Ashtanga yoga studying with her first and primary teacher Beryl Bender Birch. She spent 5 years training to become a teacher of yoga, traveling to India to immerse herself in the culture of the ancient tradition and spending time at Swami Satchidananda’s Ashram. Susan taught internationally for 18 years in Singapore, Bahrain and Europe, including several years in Germany working with Wounded Warriors and those healing from trauma. After spending 3 years teaching full time in the NYC area, Susan has returned to her home state of Virginia where she will continue to offer group classes, private sessions and workshops.

  • EP14: Thriving with ADHD after 40!

ADHD/ ADD, we have all heard the terms, but being diagnosed after 40.....is this possible?  It is possible and in this episode I talk with Diann Wingert, a life strategist and mentor for women who identify with ADHD/ADD. Diann has had a very interesting journey.  Her current work serves women with ADHD, she did her master’s thesis on ADHD, and yet, she didn’t recognize herself being ADHD until she was well into her 50s. Diann will share her inspiring journey,  her unique brain wiring, and using her ADHD as her superpower.

Diann is now on a mission to help women, especially those at midlife and beyond, to achieve their true potential.

  • EP13: Wanderlust...let's talk travel

Investment in travel is an investment in yourself.  In today's episode we are talking all things travel.  It's so easy to put travel on the 'would a, could a, should a list', isn't it?  Sometimes we tend to dream of getting away and between the mere thought, the logistics and planning, it gets caught up in the maze and doesn't happen.  Today's conversation is with Peggy Honore, a travel expert for land and sea.  Where are the hottest destinations?  Do I need a travel agent and how do they help navigate the process?  How do I get a passport?  And how about packing?  A wise man once told me, "you will run out of money, before you run out of places to go."  So my advice is phone a friend, grab your spouse or partner and book that trip.  Make it happen...because we all know it won't happen by luck.
If you're ready to start planning a special getaway. Here are Peggy's details to custom tailor an adventure just for you.
