Welcome to episode 4 of Bitcoin and Beyond.
We all know Bitcoin as the original Proof of Work chain, so how does staking come into play?
In today's episode we explore CoreDAO's consensus mechanism, staking offering, and technical bridging architecture. CoreDAO is aiming to separate Bitcoinâs asset value from its transactional rails, enabling higher throughput and lower cost ecosystems. This separation allows Bitcoin to be used more efficiently, particularly through bridging and HTLC atomic swapping.
By introducing the Satoshi Plus consensus, CoreDAO combines Bitcoin mining, staking, and Core token staking for cryptoeconomic security.
The vision of CoreDAO is to create a modular approach to Bitcoin, similar to Ethereumâs rollup-centric roadmap, making Bitcoin more scalable and efficient while maintaining its core ethos.
We talked about CoreDAO's focus on Bitcoin alignment, bringing Bitcoin holders and miners into consensus, which is crucial for addressing long-term sustainability issues, such as reliance on transaction fees post-halving.
Watch today's video for a technical dive into the Core architecture.

One of the best parts about our modular thesis is that it also applies to Bitcoin. We are seeing the same ideas of bringing next-gen VMs to Bitcoin scaling in the same way that we see with with Ethereum rollups.
Notably, the tech hurdles to actually get an SVM rollup on bitcoin is much harder.
Today we are specifically focusing on integrating the Solana Virtual Machine (SVM) onto Bitcoin. This idea aims to bring the fastest programmable execution layer to Bitcoin.
In our interview with Chase from Molecule, we dive deep into the technical aspects and potential of SVM. He shares insights on why the team believes next-gen VMs, like SVM, can significantly enhance Bitcoin's capabilities.
One of the primary challenges with Bitcoin has been its inability to natively support smart contracts and dApps. Molecule addresses this by exploring two main solutions: sidechains and rollups (L2s). While sidechains are faster to market, they don't inherit Bitcoin's security. On the other hand, rollups settle on Bitcoin and inherit its security, though they require more R&D currently (as we've discussed thus far).
The discussion also touched on the importance of a modular approach to Bitcoin due to its L1 restrictions. Technologies like OP-CAT, expected to be implemented in the next 6-12 months, will simplify complex transactions, enabling *actual* ZK rollups.
As we continue to embark on this journey together, we hope you enjoy the technical learnings as much as we do!

The trajectory to achieving a "full rollup" on Bitcoin is a gradual process, similar to that of Ethereum rollups gradually implementing fraud proofs/zk technology.
Build on Bitcoin (BoB) has taken the approach of building a product (on mainnet now) which resembles more of an hybrid optimistic rollup between Ethereum and Bitcoin L2. They have been quick to market and have built a strong community.
Despite the challenges, such as the complexity of building on Bitcoin compared to other ecosystems, BoB is set on making advanced features like zk and account abstraction available over time.
BoBâs approach tackles three major challenges: aligning with Bitcoinâs ecosystem, creating a real ecosystem of builders & apps, and ensuring liquidity for new projects. By leveraging both Bitcoinâs security and the Ethereum network, BoB is working to establish this balance.
But, this comes with tradeoffs which we thoroughly address in this presentation.
BoBâs journey is divided into several phases. Phase 1 which is already live is their optimistic Ethereum rollup. Phase 2 introduces Bitcoin PoW security through merge mining, while Phase 3 aims to transition to a Bitcoin rollup with fraud proofs (using BitVM) and potential ZK capabilities.
We also discuss their OptiMine protocol, which similar to PBS, separates block production from block finalization for allowing faster finality leveraging Bitcoin's miners. This innovative approach ensures consistent block fees and enhances miner incentives for the longer term.

If you've been following along for sometime, you've likely heard of Fluent as part of our Modular March campaign or in a previous episode.
We first met Dino last year, early on in the development of their zkWasm L2, powered by a web assembly virtual machine (for execution). This has long been a part of our modular thesis, so naturally we were extremely interested in their newly launched "Blended execution" idea.
In today's video, we set out to understand why blended execution networks are superior to single execution. We learned about the idea behind "taking the best parts" of modular VMs like EVM, WASM, and SVM and coexist with each other. This approach brings a new level of interoperability to the modular eco for devs, making it easier for them to leverage their own background and skills to participate in crypto.
Dino also shared insights into his journey in coming to the idea of blended execution, the challenges they've overcome, and what lies ahead.
Dive in with us and understand the concept of blended execution networks for the modular future.
The Rollup
We are huge proponents of the modular thesis as our entire brand is centered around this. We often challenge ideas which we have a shared thesis with as part of the channel, as well as welcome new ideas to the the mix.
The modular ecosystem is still in its infancy stages.
The core properties of blockchains (immutability, transparency, trustlessness) are extremely well suited for intellectual property.
Intellectual property is defined as: "A category of property that includes intangible creations of the human intellect."
In today's episode, we talk with Jason Zhao, founder of Story Protocol. Story Protocol is bringing in a new way IP marketplaces are created onchain, coining the term "Programmable IP" in an effort to set a new standard in how IP is registered, managed, and monetized in the crypto space.
At the heart of Story's innovation is the programmability of IP rights, allowing creators to specify how their work can be used, shared, or remixed, fostering a dynamic marketplace of ideas. The first thing that came to our mind was our Pudgy Penguin NFTs as our profile pictures, seeing as there are many penguins in the collection being licensed out in the form of physical toys.
Story Protocol addresses the challenges of the traditional IP regime, which struggles with the nuances of generative AI and the digital replication of ideas.
By making IP rights transparent and enforceable on a blockchain, Story enhances collaboration and innovation across the creative industries. This approach not only democratizes creativity but also ensures that creators are fairly compensated, which is typically not the case in traditional IP industries.
Join us for an exploratory, not so technical discussion about the future of IP onchain and how these worlds are colliding as we speak.
Blockchains, as we know them today, are imperative.
This means, we interact with every application needed to achieve a certain outcome onchainâŠwe care about the process in achieving a specified end result.
The intent-centric future aims to flip this model on its head and usher in a different way of building and interacting with decentralized systems.
At the heart of this shift is the evolution from imperative to declarative programming in blockchain environments. This transition moves us away from specifying every step of a transaction (the 'how'), focusing instead on the desired outcomes (the 'what'). By embracing a declarative approach, blockchain technology becomes more intuitive and user-friendly, aligning more closely with the natural flow of human thought and reducing the complexity traditionally associated with onchain interactions.
In todayâs video, Robbie sits down with Simon and Liesl to discuss Essential, the first declarative blockchain. Key to their design is a concept previously mentioned called 'intents'âdeclarations of what users want to achieve, without detailing the âhowâ.
They further explore the presence of solver networks in Essential, the architectural backbone of declarative blockchains, and how a novel system of constraints and rules governs blockchain state updates.
Join us as we explore how declarative blockchains are setting the stage for a more efficient, secure, and user-centric future.

We believe in a future of verifiable computation. The modular future cannot exist without zk.
After last weeks video asking "Will ZK eat the modular stack?" and realizing its all but guaranteed, we have set out to learn more about how zkVMs and ZK will make an impact. Our focus today centers on how RiscZero utilizes zk proofs and how zkVM works.
At the core of RiscZero's mission is the democratization of ZK technology, making it accessible and simpler for everyone. This effort is crucial as it enables the verification of computations in significantly less time than it takes to perform them, fostering scalable cross-verification without redundancy. We discussed the global state layer with regards to zkVM, and how Risc Zero is implemented into different rollup frameworks such as Sovereign Labs.
RiscZeroâs use of the RISC-V architecture streamlines the integration of ZK proofs by allowing developers to leverage existing codebases, which drastically simplifies the development process.
ZK isn't so easy to understand, we tried to make it as easy as possible for you. Hope you enjoy.
