In today’s episode, we have Mary Christian the owner of Mary Christian and Co, a digital marketing agency specializing in launch assistance done for your services, marketing, and coaching. She has over six years of marketing experience and has worked behind the scenes to assist companies in developing effective marketing campaigns and launches. She is also a military spouse advocate. She helps them by employing them in her business because she certainly knows how it feels to be moving around and trying unusual jobs to get by.

Five Tips in Finding Your Dream Client

1. Take A Look At Who Is Benefitting The Most From What You Are Offering Or Who Is Getting The Most Value Out Of It. 

Make sure to enjoy who you are working with. For Mary Christian, she identified who she wanted to work with by working with whom she disliked. Finding your dream client and making the relationship work is a test and a process. Overnight success doesn’t happen. 

2. Market Research

Use Facebook Groups to search for keywords that relate to your business. Look for problems that you might have a solution to. 

3. Asking Questions

Narrow down what you need to serve. Ask about their occupation, what they value the most, age, address, interest, and etc. Identify the problem and provide a solution. Really understand where they are struggling and how you can help them with what you offer. 

4. Social Media

Utilize social media to better understand your dream client. Test different types of content on social media platforms to see what is serving your audience the best and who engages in the content that you have. 

Use hashtags to find someone who you want to work with (e.g. #Photographer #blogger).

5. Analytics (Google Analytics/ Social Media/ Website)

Analytics tells you where your audience is coming from and it tells you what your traffic looks like- are they female

My guest for this episode is Kelly Wittman who will share some tips on how to identify your ideal client. She is the owner of Witt and Company, a brand strategy and design studio that helps small business owners showcase their expertise through consistent and cohesive branding.

Career Path

She grew up not knowing digital marketing was a thing. Back in 2016, she and her husband purchased their own house and she discovered home renovation blogs through this the world of digital entrepreneurship opened up to her.

Her background was in marketing and advertising. They started a home renovation blog, made connections and started utilising that by offering marketing services to other bloggers. She became fascinated with branding after being asked by a friend who was beginning his own company to do the branding and advertising for it, and from then she decided to learn as much as she could about the process. Shortly thereafter, Witt and Company was born.

Defining Your Ideal Client

Just because you are defining and clarifying who you want to work with does not mean you can’t work with anyone else outside of that definition and that’s when we can clarify your ideal client.

Essential Questions to Ask the Clients/Ourselves

Kelly encourages asking questions about who you are envisioning or ideal client. Call them if you can and ask them. If not, the point and the goal is to create a borderline because with your business and including your brand it’s evolving and changing. It is based on action. When you take action you learn and you can tweak and evolve based on what you learn.

Question No. 3 – What Does Success Look Like For Them?

Thanks to one of the members of our Savvy Nurse Writer members for asking us this question: what are the traits of a 6-figure writer vs. a beginner?

I’ve decided to turn this question into a podcast so that you can’t only hear the traits but will also learn how to implement them in your own business in order to become the six-figure earner that you deserve to be.

A six-figure writer is efficient in time management.
They know how to prioritize and figure out their days to get the time directed efficiently. To get started with this, you can start to monitor your days. Look at each hour of your day to start doing a time assessment from what you’re doing during those times.

They prioritize tasks
It is when you know what task needs your attention the SOONEST. I really like the method that Rocky Lalvani does. He was our guest in episode 97. Throughout his day, he focuses in client services, networking, and then sales. The pattern starts from doing client works first and then move to other areas to bring in more business.

They are motivated and self-directed
Running a business by yourself has to be self-driven. Good habits create goal achievement. Whatever good habits you do every day can help you become motivated and self-directed to become a 6-figure writer.

Six-figure writers do not think of themselves as hobbyists.
They are business owners. One of the parts of growing a business is changing your mindset. You are thinking of an income-generating business, not a self-serving hobby. There is nothing wrong with having a hobby. But when you are trying to build a business, you need to think of it as a business.

Iris Alliston came from the Philippines and went to the U.S in Atlanta. She will talk about building a business as a writer and will cover some topics in starting a business in general.

What pushed Iris to become an entrepreneur is by accident, because she didn’t want and wish to be an entrepreneur and it happens to her as her breakthrough to enter the entrepreneurial world. For her, building a business can be a lonely road, because you are doing everything on your own. We made mistakes and learned which is good in order to figure out what will do or which path we will go. These things will go through either you have mentors and coaches to help you; all you need to do is to follow and go through the process until you finally discover what you wanted to do.

She failed 13 times in different businesses, and failing is part of the process, we don’t need to be disappointed in it and figure out what we really want.

Irish had a marketing agency where she helped people to design their website, develop mobile apps, social media contents, and all like stuff. Her clients encourage her to teach what she already knew. After much encouragement, she took it with faith and started coaching and training people.

Irish made it in order to serve people and make a difference and ended up so many methods to help her and others as well in building a business.

The 3 M Method of Irish That You Can Use in Building a Business

1. Method or Model. It is a framework of what you want to do, a system in place that guides and allows you to do the task, and focuses on business development.
2. Messaging. This makes your customers or audience feel comfortable because you use the right terminologies or language in your content.

Laurie Mega is the co-founder of Mega Business Consulting, a full-service editorial and SEO firm founded with her husband. She is also a professor in the Communications Department in Boston where she teaches reading or writing on social media online. She did a course and includes TikTok, Twitch, and other social media platforms to create and generate content.

At Emerson College, she took a BS in Journalism as a Major and a Minor in Magazine and Constitutional Law. She also took a Master’s Degree in Creative Writing and Publishing and she started her career in textbook publishing and for 12 years.

She started to work for a company, a digital publishing, and content marketing agency. It is about one vs. quality company. She thinks that there’s a better way to create high-quality content that people will value. People will and must value small pieces of content which make the company shine.

Laurie became an Associate Director before leaving her job. They have 30 editors that can lower the content volume to convince the client to buy textbooks. She also works as a Director of a web-based educational company. Years later, she started freelancing, teaching, and founded the mega consultancy.

It is essential to act to be your editor to see and make a framework that is easier and better for your business and it is always about your customers

1. Allow Or Allocate Time For The Process.

2. Walk Away From Your Work.

3. Read Your Work Out Loud.

4. Use Editing Tools But Know The Rules Of Editing Before Using Them.

5. Go Through The Client’s Guidelines Every Single Time.

100 episodes! I cannot believe I have stuck to it this long, but there were some “bumps” along the way.

Let’s dive into what I have learned if I think it was worth it and more. You’re going to hear me reference a lot of episodes here, but everything will be in the show notes if you want to dive deeper into other episodes. Ok, let’s go!

The First Few Episodes

If you go back into the archives you’ll see there were a few different voices. Janet and Carol really helped me get this off the ground, and here we are. I cannot thank Janet, specifically, enough because she gave Carol and me the push to make this a reality. So what happened to them? We went separate ways. We still talk, they are not in my business anymore though, but it’s ok.

2020 – What happened

I started to reach out to get guests on the show – I also hired a VA to help me because I had no time

Liz Teresa is a business owner, mentor, and founder of lizteresa.com, she manages to establish the business to help entrepreneurs to find clarity and uniquely market themselves confidently using the strategic web design, intuitive business, mentorship and clever copywriting services to rise and then start their own business. 

She started her business at the age of 22 with a Master's in English in 2011 as a result of her first job interview wherein the company offered her a copywriting job to write a product description on their website and it didn’t go well. So, she decided to talk and asked permission from her mother if she can start a business because she wants to help businesses to market their products and services – her mother without hesitation told her to go and help businesses to earn money in exchange for services she could offer. She really wants to be on it and get dirty.

Liz was overwhelmed and started the business, hired a few people to do the task for her – she does podcasting and looks for some networking events to meet people who're into business and offer them help for their business using the internet-friendly way. She’s a licensed insurance agent and thinks that her experience in the insurance industry taught her to sell stuff or anything to people and that what she wants in her business is - to do what insurance agents do.

In that way, she started to get more clients with the help of her team and use online and digital marketing to do her business and helping more businesses.

Some businesses and people's priority isn’t business or investing money in marketing their products and service. They love traveling around and when the pandemic hits us and during the global effect, most people are affected and business struggles in their market and sales. Some of them closed for months while others continue to adopt the use of online transactions.

In today’s episode, we have Emma Dhesi from Scotland; she was a former secretary and actress for 10 years. Years later she does what she loves to do most and that’s teaching others. By the age of eight, she’s into writing and attended some writing workshops. Her college is exciting and that challenged her to write a textbook. She begins to draft and see if she can do it and enjoy the experience.

A historian woman called Elizabeth Costa who wrote a book called The Historian gave her a light bulb moment. The historian writer asked her, “How did you manage to write this? This amazing book! She replied, “I just had to ride horses”, so that’s what Emma got to do. Because of that, she started writing and being consistent in building a routine for herself and made a transition.

Finding time to write was a challenge for her in the beginning. She has to sit down for 20 minutes and fuel her mood. It is her dream and her heart to write, as she progressed she did more on writing until it became her regular routine. The more we do it, we are used to it easier and get things done. With this motivation, she was able to make and develop many words while writing.

Since most things are new to her, it is hard to clear yourself and find time to write. It is really tough to do the writing while doing some housework. Not yet to mention a few stressors like fear and uncertainty. So, to get started, you need to start and build small in a minute as you progress in writing. Keep listening for her great tips!

Today’s guest is the Profit Answer Man, Rocky Lalvani. He was shocked because most business owners don’t look at their financial reports. It has to do with our mindset around money and fearing change. When he realized how much of a problem this was, he knew his purpose was to help business owners gain business profit.

He serves as Chief Profitability Officer for business owners. He teaches them how to ensure they get paid and they make business profit a priority. We change the accounting formula from sales- expenses = profit to sales – profit + expenses to ensure that profit comes first. He suggested a great book to read that tackles this formula and we’re going to talk about that in this episode and so much more!
