    What To Expect

Thanks for joining me in the challenge. I hope you are as excited as I am for you to become a nurse writer!

This 7-Day Challenge will help you discover:

    • Why you want to start a freelance writing business (today)
    • When you will start your freelance writing business (Day 2,3 & 4)
    • Choosing the type of writing you want to do (day 5)
    • How to structure a blog post for clients and steps to become a content specialist (day 6)
    • Who you want to write for (day 7)

A couple of things to note:

    • Download the workbook for an extra kick in the butt to take action. (you'll get it emailed once you sign up)

Let’s start with your last job working in the regular business world. All companies start with their mission statement when you start at the job. The mission statement has some key points, core values, and in other words, the company's why.

Now that you are starting your business, it’s time to think of your WHY. Some use a piece of paper, use pictures (like a vacation / new home, etc.) to create your why.

I’ll guide you through just how you can create your why for starting your business.

See you tomorrow on DAY ONE!

  • Episode 115: Cold DM On LinkedIn: Does It Work Or Not? A Workshop With Paul Wilson

    Send us Fan Mail

Welcome to another episode. Today, we're with Paul Wilson, who is the go-to mindset coach for ambitious business owners. And we're talking about how cold dm- ing on LinkedIn can work, but it can also kill your reputation.

    Career Path

He spent 25 years at the channel tunnel. It's an undersea connection between the UK and the continent of Europe. On one unfortunate day, he got knocked off his bicycle on the way to work and broke a bone on either side of his right elbow, and being right-handed meant he couldn't do anything. At first, he couldn’t make up his mind of leaving his job but then he eventually left and did a whole range of new things including a 12-week stand-up comedy course in London.

He fell back in love with hypnosis, became a hypnotherapist then which led on to becoming a coach. He tends to work with high-level consultants, people who can be in the sort of six-figure range who have got a really, really good life. But they're kind of stuck because they do not have a purpose or a legacy. He still does hypnosis, helps people with phobias, and fears, all that kind of good stuff, and lack of confidence.

    Know, Like, And Trust

Individuals conduct business with people they know, like, and trust, according to one of the natural principles of business. We go with people who are as like us as possible or who have things that we like about them. We look and we want to know about that person's world and we want to get to trust them.

Can I trust that person with the secrets I want to share? Or can I trust that person to help me to get to where I want to be?

There's no such thing as competition because if ten of us all lined up and all ten of us would find clients, we do what we need to do to let people find us. But when you're all chasing the same person then that is the challenge, but that's the wrong view. Chase the same people. There are seven and a half billion in the world.

    Don’t Do Cold DM’s

Cold DM-ing means sending out unsolicited messages to all. If you got a piece of software, you can send millions of messages because of the sheer mass of it. One percent or half percent of people will respond but the problem is the rest of the people that don't respond. Because the problem we get with cold DM-ing, is people are so unoriginal. It is so boring.

Cold DM-ing could also mean you haven't made an effort to research about your ideal client or potential client, or not, even a client. Don’t ask questions that you could answer by just checking out their profile because it may turn them off and it might make them run away.

If you have to cold DM people, if that's your strategy, then find people, who are your potential or ideal clients.

Another problem with it is that if you do it for a week or a month or a year, people will remember you because people don't generally delete their messages. So if you message again after a year or six months ago, people remember you as someone who cold DM them, and then they automatically turn away from you.

So, if you're looking to work with guys between fifty and a hundred and fifty who've got beards and glasses yet, then go through their profiles and look for some commonality and then send a message.

  • Episode 114: Researching Process and Putting Together a Strategic Outline in Writing

    Send us Fan Mail

Hello my Savvy Nurse Writers and welcome to another workshop/podcast episode. Do you follow a researching process when writing an article?

I’m going to tell you guys today, how to go about approaching the article that you’re about to write the research and the outline for it. And again, you can do what you want to do as you develop your writing style over time. So, the research, editing, and outlining of articles is the biggest thing you have to do before you write because the writing is almost the easy part in a sense. But actually researching and putting together a strategic outline is important for you to make sure you are answering what you need to answer in the article.

So today I made up an article, it’s going to be called deadly bug bites for kids, and notice I didn’t make it very title like grabbing or anything like that, you can do that later. There are so many ways you can go about it. But right now all I want to do is start the research on a deadly bug bite for a kid and put together a few of them to tell my audience X number of deadly bug bites that you should probably get treatment on whatever that might look like.

So let’s start! We’re going to walk through this together so, to start with, I searched for deadly bug bites for kids. Google on the right side, you can click something called tools and when that button is clicked, it will come down. Give you two options- one says anytime. Now I’m going to change this to the past year.

And then I’m going to start to scroll down. The first thing that comes up is WebMD. So, of course, that’s a great thing to reference, if I’m trying to reference it. But we also have to be mindful of our clients. So if our client is a competitor of WebMD, we do not want to use WebMD. The same thing with Medscape, I like their title. I’m going to use Medscape.

I’m going to talk about symptoms, like what it looks like and how to avoid it.

If we cite according to a published article and link it, that’s called in-text citation. And at the end of it, I will do a little reference sheet with references. So people can go to those.

I’m going to copy them and paste them but I would never just copy and paste and put it in here. This is just for my research right now.

I’m going to cite a study that is informative. Again, copy-paste, but I would never do this. So you could copy and paste, but you always want to put according to and paraphrase.

What we mean by paraphrasing is to go in and change the words, give the same idea but change the words.

I’m starting my outline. I’m going to do that for every one of my bites until I know the Articles either long enough or give enough information to answer as deadly bug bites for kids and then change up my title.

Then we take our time, we go through the research, we do our paraphrasing, we do our first ugly draft, and then we go back and we do an intro and a conclusion.

So that ideally, we’re going to read it again, to make sure that our reader could understand these deadly bug bites and how to avoid them with credible evidence-based sites and citations. So that all the Formation is correct and legit.

I hope this helps you guys, I hope you go and write many articles!

  • Episode 113: Cold Pitch Strategies That Prospective Clients Can't Afford to Miss with Christine Gomolka

    Send us Fan Mail

Welcome to another episode of the Savvy Scribe Podcast. Today my guest is Christine Gomolka. She guides new freelance copywriters on mastering the most important part of building a freelance business.

She was burnt out from a long career in software sales so she followed her gut and quit with no backup plan. Today, we’re going to talk about cold pitching and this is part of the workshops that you can be a part of if you’re a member of the Savvy nurse writer community on Facebook and then we have our membership option where you get a little more in-depth, more than just this podcast episode. So, without further ado, let’s begin.

She’s from New Jersey and a copywriter in the B2B technology space.  She was in technology sales before she became a technology writer. She had no professional writing experience and she was actually unemployed when she became a writer and with no connections in the industry.

She had worked in a big room with a bunch of men, cold calling with a headset on and sitting in front of the computer making a hundred outbound calls per day and like a call center type environment, although she was making really good money, she’s just extremely burnt out and literally had to quit with no backup plan. So lo and behold she discovered copywriting and freelance writing.

Coming from sales, she knew about cold emailing, cold calling, sending messages on LinkedIn, and identifying decision-makers.

How To Personalize Your Cold Pitch

    • Cut the Chase
    • State why you’re qualified

Here Are The Two Types Of CTA’s  That You Could Use In A Cold Pitch

    1. Interest-based CTA
    2. Time-based CTA

  • Episode 111: How to Build a Brand That Attracts Your Ideal Client With Moriah Riona

    Send us Fan Mail

Moriah Riona is joining us today. She is the owner of Moriah Riona Branding specializing in branding strategy, branding website design, and content marketing for women-based businesses.

She was juggling work between wedding photography and focus on branding. Finally, she decided to take branding full time. She is now a luxury brand designer and strategist for female entrepreneurs. She helps them build high-end brands so that they can show up with confidence and get booked with their clients.

She will teach us how to build a brand that effortlessly attracts your ideal client and we dive into lots of information in this workshop. But really beyond here we actually went on to a true workshop inside our Facebook Group and that went over to membership. So, if you are not a member yet, go and join now!

How to Build a Brand That Attracts Your Ideal Client

    • Be Crystal Clear On Who Your Ideal Client Is

It’s much easier to focus your brand and advertise yourself to a target audience when you have a crystal-clear, well-defined ideal customer in mind. This makes it easy for those best-fit, high-quality clients to identify and contact you, so you’re not always scrambling for work.

Don’t be afraid to miss out. Entrepreneurs are trained to believe that missing an opportunity that may have changed their lives is the worst thing that could happen to them. This opportunity could be chasing after so many clients because you think that it will be a waste if you don’t go after them. If you’re saying yes to other projects that are not for your ideal client then you are saying no to potential ideal clients that could come along. Embrace the idea of attraction and repel. You have to be clear about who your ideal client is so that you can talk to them and start bringing them into your circle.

    • Ideal Client Avatar

You have to be specific with your ideal client. The ideal client avatar is creating a hyper-specific or perfect audience for your business.

When you know your avatar or client you can create a visual brand that speaks to them. You will know what your logo or website should look like. You have to build a brand and visuals, and the messaging too according to what the client needs to attract them.

Talk with your ideal client so you will know their deepest desire and pinpoints. You want to create the need or make your client realize that they need your business.

  • Episode 108: 6 Steps to Build Confidence to Stop Doing the Same Thing With Amanda Chils

    Send us Fan Mail

Our today’s guest is Amanda Chils, host of Root of Power Podcast and owner of Live MyHappy Health, a therapist that does mindset coaching, confidence empowerment, and teaching people how to be happy.

She will share some steps to build your confidence and for you to stop doing the same thing and get NOTHING from it. She sees you trying every morning ritual, vitamins, and piece of advice from every “influencer” out there, only to feel like a failure when you finally give up. It’s not your fault; you didn’t follow the right steps.

    How To Build Confidence

Positive affirmations have their place and they can be useful. The issue is you should have a really good base; when you are feeling confident already. When you struggle with self-worth then self-affirmation doesn’t work. You actually have to start off being a weigher of your own thoughts because if you have no idea of what your soundtrack is you can’t change it.

    • Start With Awareness
    • Acceptance
    • Pull Your Attention and Energy
    • Decide
    • Take Action
    • Manifestation and Mantra

Confidence allows you to live your life for yourself. It enables us to feel prepared for life’s challenges. We’re more inclined to go ahead with people and chances when we’re confident, rather than shy away from them. It is important because it unconsciously notifies people that they are in the company of someone who is a leader and confident in themselves. People who have a strong sense of self and project their inner confidence are more likely to achieve success. You have to completely trust in your abilities and decision-making skills. Even if you have no idea how to do or achieve anything, confidence provides you the push you need to figure it out.

  • Episode 107: Tips to Overcome Your Fear in Creating a Blog Post with Rebecca Fox

    Send us Fan Mail

We have Rebecca Fox as our guest today. She has been an entrepreneur for the past fifteen years and a content creator for the last ten. She has written over 5000 blogs, hundred pieces of web copy, and a dozen more eBooks. She is a consultant for TV shows and online training programs. She also owns Quatrefoil Creation, a content creation agency.

Take a listen today as she teaches us a step-by-step process for creating a piece in a professional way. Surely after this, you will not be scared in creating a blog post.

Steps in Creating a Blog Post

    1. Have A Good Topic

When you are writing for your portfolio and have control over what to write about, start with something you are good at. Choose topics you would want to read. The more enthusiastic you are about your subject, the more excited your readers will be when they read it.

    2. Coming Up With A Great Title

The blog title needs to be as click-worthy as possible and make people actually read it. A title can have a significant effect on how an audience interprets the blog post. SEO platforms are a bit pricey. You can try Google and type in your topic and see what the first three suggestions are. From here you will know what people are interested in or what might be trending.

    3. Write An Outline For Your Post

Great blog posts don’t just appear out of nowhere. Also, most professional bloggers need a rough plan to keep them on track. Here’s where outlines come in handy when creating a blog post.

To begin, write down your ideas and organize them into some kind of structure. An outline doesn’t have to be long or detailed – it’s just a rough guide to ensure you don’t go all over the place and ramble something off-topic. It’s critical just to make sure you have the information that you need for the topic.

    4. Filling It In

Now you have the title and the outline, it’s time to fill it in. It is important to have the right tone in creating a blog post. Put links and sources – two to five is good but seven is overkill.

Include nice cover photos or pictures (that look professional) throughout to give your audience an insight into what you’re trying to tell them. People also lack the time, will, or ability to concentrate on long blog posts without some visual input. You can go to Canva, Unsplash, and Pixabay for free images.

    5. Finally, Post It!
