In this episode Nicole and Sarah host ski mom Christine Koh. 

Christine is a music and brain scientist turned multimedia creative. Christine spent a decade in academia before changing career paths in favor of more flexible and independent ventures. Christine wears many hats including writer, creative director, podcaster, designer and of course ski mom!

Christine grew up in an immigrant family with almost no recreational activities (outside of playing the violin).  Christine learned to ski as an adult and fell in love with it from the start.

Christine reflects on the connection between intentional parenting and skiing - and how important it is to spend time outside.  Christine shares her thoughts about how the beautiful experience of free-range skiing can help reduce stress and anxiety for kids and parents alike. 

Christine is looking forward to her upcoming family ski trip to Smuggler’s Notch in Vermont!

In this episode Nicole and Sarah host ski mom Heather Burke, Travel Editor at FamilySkiTrips.com. She shares how to get the right gear to make the most of your time on snow.

Heather Burke learned to ski at 3, her mom says she was more natural skiing than walking! Heather grew up in the ski biz, her parents ran a ski lodge at Smugglers Notch in Vermont.

Heather and her husband Greg have raised two skiers, and have skied over 225 ski resorts around the world. Heather launched FamilySkiTrips.com in 1995 as a resource for families on where to ski, the best ski resorts, and even how to pack and dress for skiing.

In this episode Nicole and Sarah host ski mom Karma Bryan-Ingle, a ski mom from Ontario Canada and General Manager of Mabels Labels.  Mabels Labels is the best-known brand of durable labels for families, including sport labels, household labels and seasonal items.

In this episode Nicole and Sarah join you over Thanksgiving weekend from the World Cup in Killington Vermont!  

The event has drawn an increasing number of spectators who converge at Killington to cheer on ski racers from around the world. The event brings millions of dollars in economic impact to the state of Vermont.

The Killington World Cup takes place over two days and includes women’s giant slalom and slalom races. Fans are always extra excited to see U.S. Alpine Ski Team superstar Mikaela Shiffrin who has won the slalom each of the last four years at Killington.

Unfortunately Saturday’s Giant Slalom race was cancelled due to high winds and poor visibility. We only got to see the first 9 racers run the course. The crowd was disappointed, but  understood the decision was made for the safety of the athletes.  The entertainment went on as planned and DJ Z-Trip performed before the headliner O.A.R.

Sunday was a much better day, the slalom race started at 9:45 AM with 63 races from around the world. Petra Vlhova (Slovakia) running first and winning the run by 0.20 seconds over Mikaela Shiffrin.

Of the 63 racers only the top 30 get to race the second run, and it is run in reverse order (number 30 goes first, and Petra runs 30th). 

The crowd was so excited to watch the nail biting second run. There was fun music blasting, cheering and of course lots of cowbell!

The podium was Mikaela Shiffrin (1st), Petra Vlhova (2nd) and Wendy Holdener (3rd).  Looking at the results gives you an idea of how close the times are in this event, the difference between first place and third place was only 0.83 seconds - and that is over 2 runs!

Another American ski racer, Paula Moltzan finished in 7th place!

An 18 year old ski racer from Sweden, Hanna Aronsson Elfman started bib 60, finished the first run in 28th place and ended in 15th place.  Hanna’s second run was faster than all the other racers except Mikaela Shiffrin!

In this episode Nicole and Sarah host ski mom Christine Wells, a ski and fitness writer and mother of two who shares her story of learning to ski as an adult.  Christine is a self proclaimed “recovering lawyer” and recreational skier living in Park City, Utah. After spending several years working as an attorney on the East Coast, she moved West in 2019 and hasn't looked back. 

Although Christine grew up in Vermont, she did not start skiing seriously until her early 30’s. Christine tells us about learning to ski in Jackson Hole and the benefits and challenges of learning to ski as an adult.  Christine shares how she conquered her fear of falling off the chairlift and about her first yard sale. 

We get Christine’s recommendations on what to buy, borrow or rent for your first trip to the slopes. 

Christine also shares her tips for getting time on the slopes with help from her husband and ski resort child care. 

We hope Christine’s story inspires those who have always wanted to learn to ski to grab a friend, sign up for a ski lesson and get out there!

In this episode Nicole and Sarah host snowboard mom Stephanie Barnhart, founder of Social Minded Media Group and mom to Max, age 9.  Stephanie grew up in Aspen and skiing in Colorado, but found her true love of snowboarding back on the East Coast.

As a single mom, Stephanie addresses the unique challenges of finding the time, money and energy to plan ski adventures for her family. She started out teaching Max to snowboard -  but when he just didn’t love it, she put him on skis and the rest is history.  Skiing and boarding is now their favorite thing to do together.  Stephanie and Max found the silver lining of covid when online school allowed them to explore new ski resorts throughout New England and upstate New York.

Stephanie shares some great tips on making family ski trips more economical such as the Indy Pass and traveling with friends to defray costs.  She also shares some ways she uses social media to meet new ski/ride friends. Oh, and we might have invented a new dating app for single moms who ski and ride.
