I embody my values by living up to them with the highest integrity.

I am nothing if I’m not living up to my values.  My values are my compass, they are my north star, and they are my intuition always guiding me purposefully to where I want and need to be.  My life is about considering what I want, and then being purposeful in my pursuits. I cannot live a great and beautiful life if I don’t consider and consult my values every day. I know that what gets locked away gets forgotten; so I will write my values on my heart, I will write them in my journal each day, and I will post them somewhere where I can see them constantly.

I want to live a life that matches my values, not a life that is decided by the empty things I can get caught up in pursuing.  I will consider what I want of my life, and I’ll be purposeful in living in accordance to my values. I will consult my values upon each decision I make, and live with the utmost integrity of fulfilling my values to the “nth” degree, even when it’s hard. When things are difficult it just means it’s worth it, and I’m willing to pursue my values in every moment. As they are worth it in giving my life, if need be.

I am the architect of my life.

There’s no secret in making a great life. I am the builder of my life, I am the architect of what I create in this life.  I’ll not wish and hope for the lottery to come my way, as I will create my own lottery with my thoughts and actions as I build my life in accordance to what I dream. The way we produce things in our life is in two actions—creating it in our mind first, and then acting upon those thoughts. If I’m not getting what I desire for my life, I will then look at what I’m thinking, and create a new personal blueprint. My life is not decided by fate or luck, it is decided by the thoughts I am willing to focus intently upon.

There’s an acronym on LUCK that keeps reminding me that I create what I put my mind to.  L.U.C.K. stands for Labor Under Correct Knowledge.  I now know I am the architect of my life, and I will work on creating a personal blueprint within my mind that matches what I desire for my life.

My life is a great adventure. I will have zest for each moment today.

Zest is a fun word to use, but what does it really mean? Zest means great enthusiasm and energy.   When we take notice and understand that every moment is an adventure, even during the good and bad times.  We will see that zest is something that can be chosen at any moment.   Sometimes we can get lost in the daily humdrum of “have to’s” in life.  Each moment is a blessing!  Life will be hard, that is a guarantee, but the choice to hate your life or love it is all up to you.  If you are going to have to live, why not find the best in EVERY situation?  Anyone can complain, anyone can say this sucks, but it takes a higher intellect to find the greatest parts in each moment.  Be better today, not because you have to, but because you want to and frankly it just feels better.  You are amazing, how can you remember to utilize your zest muscle more often?  Don’t adapt, choose to rise above it all!

My decisions will be great today, I will take time to think rather than react emotionally.

Great leaders process information to make the right response first.  Anyone can act emotionally.  It’s easy to let our anger, our fear, our sadness, or contempt to get the best of us.   Most great leaders will tell you that acting out of emotion rather than thinking things through can be a recipe for disaster.  It’s great to have emotions, it’s great to be passionate and feel for something, but it’s even better to feel first and then respond purposefully.  Those who have been called to be leaders do not necessarily lead.  A leader doesn’t force, and the great ones make “leading” look easy by practiced thinking first.  Take an all-star athlete for example:  the things they do on their field of play may look seamless, but they practiced over and over again until their responses gave them the outcomes that they desired.  Take a moment to process things instead of reacting illogically and emotionally.  It will be hard at first but the more you work on responding rather than reacting the better your life and your choices will be.

I will find a way to love any circumstance I am a part of.

Everything is a new learning experience.  It may sound elementary that mistakes are the growing blocks to success, but we still forget that lesson when something doesn’t go our way.  It can be easy to get caught into first world problems and get miffed when your A.C. doesn’t work in your car, or when you hit that third red light in a row, or maybe that there is a line at the grocery store and no one is opening new cash registers to handle the influx of customers.  Take some time today to slow down, to let someone merge in front of you in traffic, to listen to a colleague fully without preemptively thinking about the next thing you want to say, or to take some time to appreciate the day in front of you--rain or shine-- it’s all beautiful.  Patience is a virtue and when we are patient with our circumstances, when we remember that each event is one more chance to find a better view, then we will be opening our eyes to the beauty God intended for us to partake in.

I will find the best in people and let them know how well they are doing.

Even when people aren’t doing their best, they are following protocol of what others expect of them.  It’s not that you have to demand more of people, but that you can believe more in them.  Not everyone has had the upbringing and support that we’ve had.  What if you were the first person to really believe in a coworker or acquaintance in their life?  We as people become better not through individualized effort, but with cooperation and support.  How can you support someone different today, and be more caring in your time, to let them know how they are making a difference?  Maybe you might need a little self-support too; even we need to utilize more kindness towards ourselves.

It is my dominant intent to be fully present in this moment and create the future I desire.

We are time travelers--maybe not in the sense of Marty McFly in the movie Back to the Future—but that we can create our future as we desire it to be.  Being present is more than just letting things happen.  Being present is about paying close attention to the thoughts we focus upon.  One of my favorite proverbs is: “If you want to know the future take a look at what you are doing right now.”  Are your behaviors (yours thoughts, actions, and words) worthy of creating a future that is amazing?  If not, change your thoughts to ones that will help build a more beautiful future you desire.

My will is strong and unbreakable

While I can fall and break, my will…well, will never be breakable.  I am determined, and I know that each fall is only a slip with my footing.  Every fall is me falling forward, and while I may fall on my face at times, and it may hurt, it’s actually a wakeup call.  Each fall is a souvenir reminding me that easy isn’t always better.  What is important to me might be hard at the time, but worth every step.

When I seek for peace, I look within myself first.

When there are problems in relationships—whether those relationships be business, romantic, familial, or with ourselves—it can be easy to look at what others are doing to take our peace away from us.  But if you heard what I just said, I said what they TAKE AWAY from us.  No one can take anything away from us without our consent, so to have peace in our lives is to know we possess it within every moment.  If it is taken from us, it is because we have given it away.  Yes, people will annoy us or not be out for our best interests, but that is where we must come to a higher realization.  We must be willing and able to say that they are unaware of what they are doing and that their wars they wage have nothing to do with me, but the peace they have given away themselves.  I will not war with others—I will wage harmony and love by keeping my peace within me to share willingly and not letting others take it away from me.

The only way for me to love others is to love myself fully first.

I will embrace the best me possible.  When we don’t love ourselves then we cannot be at our best.  It’s like the preflight demonstrations given by the flight attendants.  When that oxygen mask comes down, you should put yours on first before taking care of another.  It’s such a simple principle, but we don’t apply it enough into our own lives.  Put yourself first, not selfishly, but in what you want and need.  You will find it to be much easier to give your whole effort in everything you set your mind to.  You won’t be bogged down by resenting something because you helped out of obligation, but you will find elation and energy as you helped out of pure want because you are “fulfilled.”  You are complete by taking care of your needs.
