Farewell to the Doctor Nurse Podcast! I wish the DNP a bittersweet farewell after 2 years of solo hosting and interviewing the most amazing guests. I hope you each enjoyed being a part of our community of freedom seekers!

I am pivoting the podcast to focus on creating other content with our Success NP business. We want to launch a podcast that which will feature topics pertinent to NPs and help empower the journey of your NP career. So stay tuned! We plan to launch the Success NPs Podcast very soon. This week I spoke with Erica Komisar who is a clinical social worker, psychoanalyst, parent coach, and author. With 30 years of experience in private practice, she works to alleviate pain in individuals who suffer from depression, anxiety, eating, and other compulsive disorders. By helping them live better lives and have richer, more satisfying relationships, she assists them in achieving their personal and professional goals and living up to their potential.

A graduate of Georgetown and Columbia Universities and The New York Freudian Society, Erica is a psychological consultant bringing parenting and work/life workshops to clinics, schools, corporations, and childcare settings including The Garden House School, Goldman Sachs, Shearman, and Sterling and SWFS Early Childhood Center.

Erica is also the author of the book Being There: Why Prioritizing Motherhood in the First Three Years Matters and has appeared on major media networks such as CBS, ABC, FOX, and NPR. She is a regular contributor to the Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, New York Daily News, and FOX 5 NY. She is a Contributing Editor to the Institute for Family Studies. Her upcoming book, Chicken Little The Sky Isn’t Falling: Raising Resilient Adolescents in the New Age of Anxiety will be released in Fall 2021.

She lives in New York City with her husband, optometrist, and social entrepreneur Dr. Jordan Kassalow with whom she has three teenage and young adult children.

Wilson is a physician assistant and assistant professor. He completed a dual Master's in Physician Assistant Studies and Public Health at Touro University California. After PA school, he completed a PA Educator Fellowship and Cancer Care Fellowship before working as an inpatient hematology/oncology APP. In addition to his clinical and teaching roles, he also worked as an oncology informatics specialist and educator in health tech and IT. He is currently working on various passion projects including financial coaching and running The Finance Hospital.

Wilson focuses on financial education and 1:1 coaching. He enjoys teaching student loans, personal finance, and investing topics!

Stephanie is a practicing nurse practitioner. She completed her Masters in Nursing and Family Nurse Practitioner program at Samuel Merritt University. While she was in school, she continued working full-time as a blood and marrow transplant and oncology nurse. After finishing her NP training, she began working as an inpatient oncology APP. She recently completed her Master's in Business Administration and is working as an outpatient oncology nurse practitioner. She currently splits her time between clinical work, real estate investing, and traveling.
Stephanie helps with the operational and business side of things. She is also our real estate investing enthusiast!

Dr. Annie DePasquale graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia with her medical degree. She completed her Facility Medicine Residency program at Georgetown University in Washington DC. She founded Collaborating Docs in 2020 by Dr. Annie who is a Board-certified Family Medicine physician who first-hand saw an unmet need of her NP colleagues who needed a supervising physician to practice independently. When Dr. DePasquale realized how hard it is for NPs to find a collaborating physician, she knew she had to do something. The hoops the nurse practitioners and physician assistants had to jump through to start practicing were too exhausting for anyone to handle alone. Dr. DePasquale benefited greatly from the mentorship of NPs throughout her career, especially when she was a green new grad, so she is very committed to giving back to the community that helped her so much. This week on the podcast we hear from Stephanie Simmerman, DNP APRN. She is originally from Michigan. Dr. Simmerman has lived in Naples, Florida for over 20 years. She graduated from Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, Florida in 2007 and started her healthcare career as a registered nurse with Riverchase Dermatology. In May 2012, in the course of her Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) degree, she obtained the highest scholastic achievement in professional nursing, the Doctorate of Nursing Practice. During her advanced nursing preparation, Dr. Simmerman gained practical experience working directly with nurse practitioners in multiple clinical environments and has even developed programs for work culture competence for dermatology practices. Stacey Stenenga was born and raised in a small town in Michigan. Stacey joined the Air Force to see the world. After 14 years of living overseas and in multiple different states, Stacey moved to Colorado to settle down closer to family. Despite being a critical care nurse for 11 years, her income was nearly cut in half from relocating. In 2018, she found the book “Set for Life” by Scott Trench and became a devout student, learning as much as she could about real estate investing. Stacey has since acquired 4 duplexes and is a passive investor in syndication. Stacey’s love for real estate investing stems from supplementing her salary as a full-time nurse.
